Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 478 - 487: Smart Person

Chapter 478: Chapter 487: Smart Person

By the time Stella Sterling returned, the sky was already starting to brighten.

At this hour, many people were getting ready to sleep, planning to rest well during the heat of the day.

They would come out again to move around and search for food once the temperature cooled in the evening.

So when she returned, neither Hunter Night nor his men noticed her. They were all resting in their respective tents.

Stella Sterling had no intention of disturbing them. She planned to head back to her car, then enter her personal space to rest for a while.

After a long night’s work, she had finally gotten those dozen or so people settled.

She could sense they had been lost and confused. Her arrival had relieved that confusion, and in turn, their admiration for her had grown into fanatical worship.

She could even feel a steady stream of faith power flowing into her body whenever she interacted with them.

She was very satisfied with this gain.

It seemed her actions had not been in vain. Gaining a dozen more followers wasn’t particularly important to Stella Sterling; it wasn’t something she desperately needed.

She cared about them because they were different. These dozen-odd people seemed to genuinely believe, without a shred of doubt, that she was a divine being.

They held a fanatical devotion and trust in her, and the faith power they generated could make her stronger.

This was the very reason Stella Sterling had led them out of Sanctyr Base and had even gone back to find them.

These were her first believers, which made them special.

Now that they were settled, she could take them with her once she finished her business at Sanctyr Base.

Their existence also pointed her toward another path, another possible way to increase her power.

Mulling this over, she walked toward her small, beat-up car.

To her surprise, however, she found Zane Xavier standing nearby.

He hadn’t gone to sleep yet. He had gathered some straw from who-knows-where, spread it on the ground, and was sitting on it.

It looked like he was waiting for Stella Sterling.

He looked sleepy, though, yawning as he sat there, clearly fighting to stay awake.

Stella Sterling paused for a moment before continuing toward him.

Hearing the sound, Zane Xavier immediately looked in her direction.

His eyes lit up when he saw Stella Sterling. He stood and walked over to her. "Miss Sterling, you’re back! Are you all right? Is everything taken care of?"

"Mhm, it’s all done. You haven’t slept yet?"

Stella Sterling nodded.

Zane Xavier, however, scratched his head and gave an ingratiating smile. "How could I possibly sleep when you hadn’t returned, Miss Sterling? I was so worried. Now that I see you’re back, I can finally relax!"

As Miss Sterling’s most loyal subordinate, he had been worried from the moment she left without him.

She had been gone for so long; how could he not be anxious?

After all, she was his new master. He had betrayed Sanctyr Base for her. If this new master were gone, who could he rely on in the future? Wouldn’t his means of survival be gone, too?

The mere thought of it had worried him so much he couldn’t sleep. If he had known where Miss Sterling had gone, he would have gone looking for her long ago instead of just waiting anxiously.

"I appreciate the thought. Go get some sleep."

Stella Sterling waved her hand, a wry smile on her face.

It didn’t matter what he was really thinking or why he was worried about her.

At the very least, his gesture was touching. The man was clearly a smart one.

He knew how to make a good impression, and more importantly, he wasn’t afraid to voice it. That way, he not only got things done but also made sure people knew he did them.

He didn’t do things that went unnoticed.

No wonder he managed to make a name for himself at Sanctyr Base. He really did have some skills.

Initially, Stella Sterling had only been interested in him because he could fly a plane. Her own base lacked pilots, which was why she had set her sights on him.

She was only interested in Zane Xavier’s skills as a pilot. She didn’t much care about his character—as long as he hadn’t eaten ’that meat,’ he passed her test.

She just hadn’t expected him to be such a pleasant surprise.

Not only did he know many of Sanctyr Base’s secrets, which was a great help to her, but he was also tactful and exceptionally perceptive.

He was also intelligent. He knew what he wanted and worked to present himself in a way that would achieve it.

She liked smart people like him.

At least she wouldn’t have to explain everything in detail; he would just get it.

Hearing her words, Zane Xavier nodded. Without further ado, he waved a quick farewell to Stella Sterling and returned to his tent to get some sleep.

Once in her car, Stella Sterling immediately entered her personal space, appearing inside her villa.

The villa was an exact replica of her house at Caeluna Base, and stepping inside felt like coming home.

Stella Sterling rummaged through her space and soon found a large, soft bed amidst a pile of junk.

She had scavenged it from a department store during one of her supply runs.

Her space was enormous, after all. Even things that might seem useless to others could be useful to Stella Sterling, so she took them.

At the time, she had figured that even if she never used a bed that big, she could always dismantle it for firewood, so she had tossed it into her space without a second thought.

Now, it was coming in handy.

With a single thought, the large bed lifted from the pile of junk and flew into the villa.

The bed was brand new—an unsold floor model. After being stored in her space, it had remained in pristine condition.

After setting up the bedroom, she returned to the living room and decided to take a shower first.

The massive explosion back at Sanctyr Base hadn’t injured her, but the clouds of flying dust had left her completely covered in grime.

Her hair was filthy, and she hadn’t had a chance to clean up until now. With some time to herself, she could finally take a proper shower, wash up, and relax.

The temperature inside her space was always constant—never too hot or too cold. It was perfect for resting, unlike the outside world, where the slightest movement could leave one drenched in sweat.
