Chapter 479: Chapter 488: Searching for Supplies
Stella Sterling first freshened herself up, then soaked in the bathtub for a while, allowing her entire body and mind to relax.
She had placed a glass of red wine beside the tub, picking it up for a sip from time to time.
A small tablet was mounted opposite her, playing a variety show she enjoyed.
It was a lifestyle show. On screen, the days were sunny and beautiful, depicting an age of peace and prosperity where life was tranquil.
It was a stark contrast to the devastation that now covered the world outside.
The show had been filmed several years ago, and its run had just ended shortly before the apocalypse began.
Back then, she had been so busy working at the Sterling Family’s company that she never had time to watch it properly.
She had planned to binge-watch the whole thing after that busy period was over and all the episodes were out.
Who knew so much would happen afterward? She was kidnapped and beaten half to death by people Yara Sterling had hired, and while she was recovering in the hospital, the apocalypse arrived without warning.
Then she had survived in the apocalypse for so many years, experiencing so much bloodshed and countless other unspeakable things.
After that, she was backstabbed, died, and then was reborn.
After coming back again, as she stockpiled supplies and gathered shows and variety programs to pass the time, she made sure not to forget this one.
Over the years, she had watched this show several times but still hadn’t grown tired of it.
As Stella Sterling watched, she would occasionally laugh out loud along with the people on the show.
It was rare to have such a leisurely and relaxing moment, and she was in a very good mood.
’A while ago, my days were too laid-back. Every day, apart from strengthening myself, was just spent watching shows and variety programs.’
’I started to feel that life was too boring and wanted to find something more exciting to do.’
’But recently, I’ve been on the road and rarely had time for this. Now that I have some free time, watching it again has rekindled my interest.’
The guest on the show was an idol she and Lydia Magnus used to like.
He was very handsome and even bore a slight resemblance to Gordon Ford—exactly her type.
’But well, the apocalypse came. I wonder what happened to the guests and hosts from this show.’
’I don’t know if they’re still alive in this apocalyptic world.’
It wasn’t just the idol she once liked; she had no idea what had become of the people she once knew—classmates, teachers, friends, colleagues. With several years having passed since the apocalypse began, there was no telling how anyone was doing.
Some might still be alive, while others had likely already perished in this new world.
As she watched, Stella Sterling’s mind began to wander, and she grew sentimental.
’It would be great if the apocalypse could just end.’
’Even if we can’t return to the civilization we had before, it would be good enough to at least have a home where we could live out our days in peace.’
’But right now, that seems a bit impossible.’
From what she knew, there were still many natural disasters to come.
The apocalypse hadn’t ended by the time she died in her past life. Later, she met Andrew Shaw and learned from him that even twenty-five years into the apocalypse, all sorts of natural disasters were still happening one after another.
The only silver lining was that humanity’s technology had also developed significantly by then.
Through the efforts of certain factions, humanity had gradually found ways to cope and had rebuilt homes amidst the apocalypse.
It was slightly better than the present, but not by much.
She shook her head and glanced at the tablet, only to find that the episode had finished without her noticing.
Checking the time, she realized she had been soaking in the bath for over an hour.
She stepped out of the bathroom, leaving a trail of water droplets on the floor. With a thought from Stella Sterling, the water on her body instantly evaporated.
She put on a soft, comfortable set of pajamas, walked to the living room, and read a book for a while before going to sleep.
When she woke up again, she didn’t know how much time had passed. She had slept very comfortably, deeply, and felt completely relaxed.
Waking up, Stella Sterling felt full of energy once more.
She checked the situation outside her dimension and saw that night had fallen.
The members of the Three Tigers Corps were preparing their gear, looking like they were planning something.
Zane Xavier happened to be walking out of his tent and heading toward her beat-up little car, apparently intending to look for her.
Stella Sterling changed her clothes, exited her dimension, and sat down in her car. Before Zane Xavier arrived, she opened the car door and yawned.
Zane Xavier greeted her, "Miss Sterling, you’re awake. Do we have any plans for tonight?"
Just as Stella Sterling was about to speak, the leader of the Three Tigers, Hunter Night, walked over. "My friends, do you two have any plans for today?"
Stella Sterling and Zane Xavier glanced at each other, then shook their heads.
Hunter Night smiled. "If you don’t have any plans, you could join us. We’ve found some abandoned ruins. They’re buried about ten-odd meters deep, but we think it used to be a small supermarket, so there should be plenty of supplies inside."
"As you know, every time a supply point is discovered, it attracts a lot of competition. Although we were the first to find this place, it’s been a while, so someone else might have found it too. A fight will be unavoidable."
"So, I’d like to invite the two of you to join us. You could lend us a hand, and of course, we’ll give you a share of the supplies based on headcount and contribution. What do you think?"
Hearing this, Zane Xavier and Stella Sterling looked at each other again, understanding his intention.
There were only two of them, while the other group had over twenty people. Honestly, they didn’t need the extra help.
The invitation was likely a gesture of goodwill.
Zane Xavier was eager to accept immediately. A small supermarket, and a newly discovered one at that, was bound to have a lot of supplies. Even if they had to split it with Hunter Night’s group, the two of them would still get a decent share.
’It’s a good opportunity.’
However, the first thing he did was look to Stella Sterling to ask for her opinion.
Stella Sterling thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
’I don’t lack these supplies, and eventually, I’ll tell Zane about my dimension’s secret.’
’So we don’t actually need to go scavenging.’
’But people on the outside don’t know that. If we pass up an opportunity like this, it will inevitably arouse suspicion.’
’Even though I’m not afraid of trouble, I don’t want to attract any for no reason.’
’Besides, I’m bored with nothing to do anyway. It might be good to go check it out.’
’I have to lay low in Veridia for a while and wait for Black Swan anyway. I might as well blend in and get a feel for the local life.’
