Chapter 507: Chapter 516: Related to Gordon Ford
"There’s nothing particularly strange about it. After all, that person rarely shows his face, so we’ve seldom seen him or had much contact!"
Black Swan shook her head.
But then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she turned to Stella Sterling and said, "However, that man, Caleb Xavier... I think he knows your friend, Gordon Ford!"
Hearing that name, Stella Sterling turned to look at Black Swan.
’Caleb Xavier and Gordon Ford know each other?’
’Did they know each other before, or is this a post-rebirth Caleb Xavier who knows Gordon Ford?’
After all, she’d heard from Andrew Shaw that in the 25th year of the apocalypse, both Caleb Xavier and Gordon Ford were major figures. It was possible they had heard of each other, and it would be normal for them to have crossed paths.
In her past life, she had never mentioned Gordon Ford to anyone. Therefore, Stella Sterling didn’t really know if they had known each other from the beginning or had only met later.
"How do you know?"
Stella Sterling’s tone was calm.
Black Swan thought for a moment before speaking. "Before, when we were captured by that group, I heard that man, Caleb Xavier, mention Gordon Ford’s name."
"Because he’s your friend, Master, I was curious when I heard the name and listened closely for a bit. I heard that man, Caleb Xavier, muttering to himself, saying something like if it weren’t for Gordon Ford, he wouldn’t have come back again... or something like that. But I didn’t understand it at all. I was completely confused."
As she spoke, a trace of confusion flickered in Black Swan’s eyes. The things he said at the time were very strange and didn’t seem to make much sense.
She hadn’t understood what he was talking about at all. She only remembered it because he had mentioned Gordon Ford, and she recalled that this Gordon Ford had a somewhat unusual relationship with her Master.
After hearing this, Stella Sterling was eighty to ninety percent certain that Caleb Xavier had also been reborn.
’But what did he mean by that? What does "if it weren’t for Gordon Ford, he wouldn’t be like this" imply?’
She suddenly recalled what Andrew Shaw had said. When he brought up Gordon Ford, he called him a complete and utter madman who was always researching ways to return to the past.
’Could it be related to that?’
For the time being, Stella Sterling couldn’t figure these things out, so she decided to stop thinking about them and set the matter aside for now.
Matters concerning Caleb Xavier were cropping up around her more and more frequently.
Perhaps they would meet again soon. Even if they didn’t run into each other by chance, she would seek him out herself.
Once she met him, she would naturally be able to clarify some things.
’I’m really looking forward to it. I wonder what kind of expression he’ll have when he sees me again?’
’Hmm, should I put on a disguise this time around?’
’Pretend I’m not a returner, and then get close to Caleb Xavier.’
As the two of them walked and talked, they soon arrived at the place where Seven Locke and her group were resting.
Stella Sterling spotted them from a distance.
She saw that they had all lost a lot of weight compared to before and looked just as disheveled as Black Swan.
Stella Sterling’s steps faltered for a moment.
When Black Swan saw them, she was about to wave and tell them their Master had arrived, but Stella Sterling stopped her.
She stood in a hidden spot and took some things out of her space—including several chunks of meat—and tossed them to Black Swan. "Let’s go. Now that I’m here, there’s no reason for you all to go hungry!"
Staring at the large pile of things that had suddenly appeared in her hands, Black Swan’s eyes lit up. She looked so hungry she wanted to take a raw bite out of it right then and there.
Before, when there was no food in sight, she could still endure the hunger. But now, with food right in front of her, an overwhelming wave of starvation washed over her.
But she suppressed it forcefully and said, "You’re always so considerate, Master. I thank you on their behalf!"
’No wonder Master wanted to stop me from calling out to them.’
’If we had rejoined the group, it would have been difficult for Master to take out the food in front of everyone.’
’By taking the things out now, we can just make up an excuse for it later.’
Master took out so much food, and remembering what she just said, it was obvious she wanted them to have a proper meal.
"Let’s go."
Faced with the other’s excitement, Stella Sterling just smiled. Also carrying a large pile of things, she walked toward Seven Locke and the others, who were sitting over there.
Seven Locke and her group were gnawing on dry rations. They didn’t have much food left; just a few flatbreads had been divided among the twenty-odd people, which they were eating now.
Suddenly, Engineer Locke heard footsteps approaching. Her expression changed slightly, and she said to the others around her, "Be careful, someone’s coming!"
At her words, everyone stopped what they were doing, grew vigilant, and scanned their surroundings defensively.
Seven Locke was already on her feet.
They had to be careful within the territory of the Sanctyr Foundation. Besides, they had far fewer weapons than before, forcing them to be even more cautious.
The footsteps grew closer. From the sound of it, it wasn’t just one person, but at least two.
This made Seven Locke rule out the possibility of it being Black Swan returning alone. Her expression grew more solemn.
Judging by the footsteps, the newcomers had no intention of hiding their tracks. Such arrogance suggested they were not weak.
At that moment, she finally pinpointed the direction of the footsteps and looked over.
She saw two figures slowly walking toward them. Their forms gradually became clear.
Kate Locke’s jaw dropped slightly. She saw Black Swan.
But what surprised her even more was the woman next to Black Swan.
’Who is she?’
’I don’t know her at all.’
’So, was Black Swan’s sudden, hurried departure just to meet this woman?’
Thinking of this, Kate Locke’s expression soured.
But she also breathed a sigh of relief. At least one of the arrivals was Black Swan, so the person with her probably wasn’t an enemy.
So, she narrowed her eyes and began to study the person beside Black Swan, her brow furrowed slightly.
At first glance, the woman wasn’t particularly good-looking, but a second look revealed a comfortable and eye-catching aura about her.
What she found strangest was why she felt a sense of familiarity from this person!
Yet she was certain she had never met her before.
"Black Swan, you owe me an explanation. Did you rush off like that just for some personal matter?"
