Chapter 508: Chapter 517: Confusion
Seven Locke’s voice was cold. She spared a single glance for the person beside Black Swan before her gaze snapped back, fixing on Black Swan, demanding an explanation.
Hearing Seven Locke’s words, Black Swan looked confused.
’What does she mean, "for some personal matter"? I went to see our Master.’
It all happened so suddenly, and she hadn’t even understood the feeling that had come over her at the time.
That’s why she hadn’t explained anything to Seven Locke.
’But I’ve brought Master back with me now. Seven Locke should understand what happened the moment she sees her.’
’But judging by Seven Locke’s expression, this reaction is completely unexpected. She doesn’t seem excited to see Master in the slightest, she hasn’t even greeted her.’
Just as she was about to speak, Stella Sterling, standing beside her, stopped her. "Take a good look at me."
"Master, what’s wrong? This..."
Black Swan looked at Stella Sterling in confusion, but she trailed off mid-sentence. The words died in her throat as she stared at the person before her, her mouth hanging open.
’Who is this dark-skinned woman? This isn’t my radiant, elegant, fair-skinned Master at all.’
’But who else could this person be but Master? I know it’s her.’
She only just realized that from the moment she first saw her, she hadn’t even noticed that the person in front of her looked nothing like her Master.
Other than the fact that they were both women, this was the face of a complete stranger.
And yet, for some reason, when she first laid eyes on her Master, she hadn’t noticed this. She had recognized her almost instantly as the leader of their Caeluna Base.
As her Master.
’What is going on? If Master hadn’t pointed it out just now, I would have never realized she was in disguise.’
’And yet, I didn’t find it strange in the slightest.’
Seeing her reaction, Stella Sterling explained with a sigh, "It’s because of that pill. When you see me, you can be almost certain it’s me, so you didn’t notice."
If it weren’t for Seven Locke’s reaction, Stella Sterling would have almost forgotten she was in disguise and not showing her true face.
Black Swan’s instant recognition had made her temporarily forget that she was wearing a disguise.
It wasn’t until she saw the look in Seven Locke’s eyes that she paused, then remembered that her current appearance was completely different. No one could possibly recognize her.
The reason Black Swan had recognized her on sight, without finding anything strange, was likely due to the Loyal Servant Pill.
Those who consumed it would be loyal to her for life. If she so wished, their every thought, action, and movement could be under her control.
This created a special connection between her and them. No matter what she looked like, as long as someone who had taken the Loyal Servant Pill saw her, they would recognize her instantly.
Hearing her Master’s reminder, it finally dawned on Black Swan.
The doubts in her mind finally made sense.
’No wonder. I saw a complete stranger but didn’t feel anything was amiss, immediately recognizing her as Master.’
She marveled silently at the terrifying power of the pill.
’Where on earth did Master get something so incredible?’
’As expected, Master is no ordinary person. The things she possesses are just as extraordinary.’
The more she understood, the more reverence Black Swan felt for Stella Sterling.
A short distance away, Seven Locke was still waiting for Black Swan to give her an explanation.
They were a team, after all, and had led this group out together.
For Black Swan to suddenly leave without a word of explanation, only to return with a strange woman in tow...
If their time together hadn’t convinced her that Black Swan was completely loyal to Caeluna Base...
...based on her current actions, Seven Locke would have suspected she had ulterior motives.
She was only willing to hear her out because she trusted her.
But now, the other woman was just standing there with no intention of explaining at all.
Her anger flared even hotter.
’This woman... after everything she said...’
’And what happens? In the blink of an eye, she runs off and brings back a stranger. She left so impulsively at such a critical time, just to meet this person.’
She suppressed the anger in her heart and walked slowly toward the two of them. She looked at the dark-skinned woman. "Excuse me. Even if you’re her friend, this is our territory for now. I hope you’ll leave."
Stella Sterling looked at her, altered her voice, and asked teasingly, "Are you sure you want me to leave?"
Black Swan, standing beside them, grew anxious.
Now that she understood what was happening, Seven Locke’s reaction made perfect sense.
Seven Locke had no idea the person she’d brought back was their Master; in her eyes, this woman was a complete stranger.
She didn’t have the same special connection to their Master, so she couldn’t recognize that this was her in disguise.
From Seven Locke’s point of view, she had simply brought back a random stranger.
’No wonder,’ she thought. ’Given how much Seven Locke reveres our Master, there’s no way she’d react like this if she knew who it was.’
She wanted to speak up and alert Seven Locke, but seeing her Master’s playful expression, she didn’t dare interrupt.
It looked like her Master’s mischievous streak was showing again; she clearly wanted to tease Seven Locke.
Since she couldn’t say anything, all she could do was stand to the side, winking and trying to signal Seven Locke.
Seven Locke frowned when she heard the woman’s voice. It sounded vaguely familiar, but when she tried to place it, she was sure she’d never heard it before.
She suppressed her anger and tried to speak calmly. "If you want to catch up with Black Swan, you can do it over there. Otherwise, my friends and I don’t know you, and it makes everyone uncomfortable."
After speaking, she glanced at Black Swan again, only to see her frantically trying to signal her.
She frowned, sensing that something was off.
Having worked with Black Swan for so long, she knew her well enough. They had developed a certain rapport.
’I can’t make sense of Black Swan’s reaction at all.’
’Could it be... is there something strange about this woman?’
Seeing Seven Locke look her way, a flash of delight appeared in Black Swan’s eyes as she quickly tried to signal her again.
She was trying to tell her, ’This is our Master!’
But this time, no matter how clever Seven Locke was, she could never have guessed the truth.
