Chapter 365 - 115: Decisive Beastmen

Chapter 365: Chapter 115: Decisive Beastmen

"Chieftain! This is bad! Chieftain!"

"Chieftain! There’s a dragon! And a strange bird! They’re flying right at us! They look like they’re with the humans!"

"Useless! Shut your mouth! Am I blind?"

The losses from the siege had been far too great, and Blake was already fuming. He couldn’t stop himself from berating the tribesman who had rushed over to report.

Of course Blake knew a dragon was flying over from the distance. With a body that massive, the dragon was hard to ignore.

The dragon, accompanied by a strange bird, was spewing flames from the sky. The goblins gathered below the walls of Bai Ma Ferry were clustered together, and with every pass, a huge swath of them was incinerated.

Watching the two flying creatures, Blake couldn’t help but gulp.

That was a dragon! A creature that only exists in mythology!

Robson wasn’t afraid of dragons. That was because he commanded one of the world’s finest armies, possessed formidable strength himself, and had a breadth of experience to match.

In Robson’s eyes, no matter how powerful a dragon was, killing it would simply require a bit more effort—perhaps some Magic, or a few ballistae...

But for a goblin like Blake, a dragon was truly the stuff of legend.

Seeing a dragon for the first time, Blake’s body began to tremble.

"Blake! What are you spacing out for? Hurry up and think of something!"

"Go ask those brutes! They’re the ones who ordered us to charge, and now look what’s happened..."

While Blake was temporarily stunned by the dragon’s intimidating presence, many of the other Chieftains on the scene were starting to come to their senses.

They had no choice but to react. In the distance, the two great beasts swooped back and forth, relentlessly harvesting the lives of the Goblin Warriors below Bai Ma Ferry.

For the Goblin Chiefs, these warriors in their prime represented the strength of their tribes, the very foundation of their power.

If their prime warriors died, their tribes would be forced to merge with others.

For this assault on Bai Ma Ferry, the Beastmen were sending in troops in waves. The Chieftains of the Goblin Tribes whose turn it was to attack were now like ants on a hot griddle.

’That’s right! I need to find Mendes!’

Prompted by the other Goblin Chiefs around him, Blake finally, belatedly, realized what he had to do.

Mendes gave the order. Now that there was a problem, it was only natural to go find him.

Just as Blake was about to hurry off and ask whether to fight or retreat, another Goblin Warrior rushed over in a panic.

"It’s an emergency, Chieftain! An emergency!"

"The brutes at the rear—they’ve run away!"

....

Robson probably never imagined that in the hearts of the Beastmen, he, Lord Robson, had become something of a devil.

When Robson heard that the Beastmen had begun to attack Bai Ma Ferry with full force, he immediately understood the Beastman Army’s intentions.

The fall of Bai Ma Ferry wouldn’t mean the situation was lost, but it would make things far more complicated.

Although Valentino had previously reinforced Bai Ma Ferry and stationed troops there, Robson still wasn’t at ease. He ordered his entire army to force march, while he himself flew ahead on his newly subjugated dragon, hoping to temporarily stabilize the situation with the power of three Golden Tiers.

But unexpectedly, when he, Lord Robson, made his appearance riding the Flying Dragon with Huang Na, the opposing Beastman Army, for some unknown reason, turned and fled.

They really just turned and ran! Without a shred of hesitation. Robson, riding on Everton’s back, saw it all clearly.

At first, it was only the elite Beastmen troops who fled. But soon, they were followed by the goblin forces.

It wasn’t just Robson and Blake who were stunned by this scene. The officers of the Beastman Army besieging Bai Ma Ferry, as well as the human nobles and Soldiers defending it, were all utterly baffled by the Beastmen’s maneuver.

"What’s going on? Where are the men in the rear?"

"They ran! Why did they run?!"

"Look at the sky! It’s that strange bird again!"

At this, some of the Beastman Officers still fighting below the city walls raised their heads.

A moment ago, they had been completely engrossed in the battle. Now, looking up, they suddenly spotted a familiar silhouette in the sky.

Upon seeing the strange bird in the sky, the Beastman Officers who recognized Huang Na barely needed to think. They immediately made the exact same choice as Mendes: they turned and fled without a moment’s hesitation.

There was nothing to be done. The previous battle in Sri County had left too deep an impression on all the Beastmen. First the goblins, then the Gray Dwarves and Centaurs, and finally even the force personally led by Prince Odoruo—all had been effortlessly crushed by this group of humans.

If they had only lost once, many Beastmen would have remained defiant. But in the span of a few short days, they had been routed multiple times by those human Soldiers.

They were already a routed army, with what little morale they had completely shattered.

If some figure of authority had stepped up to lead them, the Beastman Soldiers might have put up a fight. But with Mendes leading the main army in a full-blown retreat, what was the point of resisting?

The flight of the Beastmen instantly triggered a chain reaction among the surrounding goblin tribes.

Although the goblins held significant influence within this routed Beastman army, on the battlefield, the Beastman Soldiers were the true bellwether.

Besides, even if the Beastman Soldiers hadn’t fled, the goblins would have had to. The entire army behind them was gone! What were they supposed to stay and do?

"Damn it! They must be afraid of this dragon! Damn it!"

"The Beastmen are running for their lives. Shouldn’t we get out of here too?"

.....

"We won? We won, right?"

"Why did the Beastmen run away?"

"The dragon! It must be the dragon in the sky! That dragon came to help us!"

"Dragon! Dragon!"

....

The human Warriors on the wall still hadn’t processed what had happened. All they knew was that a dragon had suddenly appeared, and then, without any warning, the Beastmen had fled.

Never mind the ordinary human Warriors; even Vid and Grem, standing on the wall, had no idea what was going on.

’A dragon flew over, then a strange bird appeared, then they started slaughtering the Beastmen, and then the Beastmen just... ran away?’

"Huh?!" Vid didn’t recognize the two Magical Beasts in the sky. When he had seen Huang Na before, she was just a Three-tailed Flying Bird standing on Robson’s shoulder.

"Your Lordship! That phoenix! It’s the Viscount’s Magical Beast!"

Fortunately, Grem had worked under Robson before, so he recognized the Magical Beast in the sky at a glance.

The Beastmen weren’t the only ones who had a lasting impression of Huang Na.

"The Viscount... Viscount Robertson?"

"He... tamed a dragon?!"

Vid stared at the two High-Tier Magical Beasts in the sky. Everton’s prowess seemed all the more striking against the blue expanse, and the shock in Vid’s heart was immeasurable.

In any civilization, from its most primitive stages, one would find totem worship.

Such powerful and ferocious beasts as dragons held a unique significance in human society. The Emperor of the Third Empire, for instance, had built his power on the back of his Dragon Knight Order. Even the dragon on the emblem of the current Frankish Royal Family originated from the Third Empire!
