Chapter 484 - 226: The Ranch General

Chapter 484: Chapter 226: The Ranch General

The entire army moved out swiftly.

Robson had no intention of concealing his movements. The facilities required for a large Magic Beast Breeding Farm couldn’t be moved in just a day or two.

Even if those fellows tried to flee ahead of time, the Cavalry Teams under Lord Robson were not to be trifled with.

Flee? Could they possibly flee with a group of wood spirits in tow?

Given Chief Hall’s pace, if he wasn’t an Extraordinary, Robson doubted he could even reach the Centaur Royal Court in a month.

It was nearly dusk when Robson returned, but that mattered little. The army under Lord Robson was composed of elites. Units like the Gnolls were masters of nighttime combat, so there was no need to worry.

.....

Some time after Robson had departed, the Beastman Breeding Farm on the other side remained completely unaware.

Although the Beastman Grassland had magic beasts, many Beastmen, even those from the Royal Family, lacked significant power and had no experience raising them on a large scale.

Therefore, this so-called large Magic Beast Breeding Farm that Robson was targeting actually contained only a few hundred magic beasts, most of which were merely Bronze-tier.

Even so, the Tiger Race Royal Court still placed great importance on this Magic Beast Breeding Farm, dispatching a large number of troops to garrison it.

Although many had been withdrawn due to the war, over a thousand of the Tiger Corps still remained, along with several powerful low-tier races standing guard.

They were magic beasts, after all.

Of course, with so many troops, they couldn’t all be just for guarding magic beasts. They also watched over many other grassland creatures, including Warg Mounts.

This was also why the farm was able to support so many tribes.

As the sky gradually dimmed, General Karl, who was in charge of guarding the farm, rubbed his drowsy eyes.

’This damned place is so far from the heart of the Royal Court.’

They called his position one of high status and great authority, but in reality, within the Beastman Empire, there was no real power to be had outside the Royal City.

Still, General Karl was content with the quiet life. He wasn’t a particularly belligerent man.

Another eagle flew across the sky.

General Karl frowned.

That’s how it was on the Beastman Grassland. Whenever something major happened, the skies would fill with a constant stream of eagles and Thunder Eagle Knights.

’Has something major happened recently?’

The Beastman Empire adhered to a tribal system. It was less a unified nation and more a confederation of tribes.

Because of this, news traveled slowly throughout the Empire.

To this day, General Karl was still unaware that the Royal Court’s elite forces had been crushed by humans. He didn’t even know the Royal Court had dispatched an army to intercept them.

If a Centaur Warrior hadn’t fled to this area some time ago, Chief Karl wouldn’t have even known that humans had begun invading the Beastman Grassland.

’But even if I had known, what could I have done? I only have a thousand Tiger Race Warriors under my command.’

’And calling them Warriors is a stretch; they aren’t even fully equipped with decent weapons.’

General Karl shook his head, pushing aside thoughts that had nothing to do with him. He returned to his tent, ready to get a good night’s sleep.

Just then, the cry of a Thunderhawk suddenly echoed from the sky.

’A Thunderhawk?’

General Karl frowned.

Thunderhawks didn’t cry out for no reason. If one was screeching near his camp, it could only mean there was urgent business that concerned him.

The farm had no special cages for Thunderhawks to land in. Fortunately, the one in the sky wasn’t some noble breed that needed delicate handling, so it just found a random spot and flew down.

General Karl didn’t have to wait long. A Tiger Race Warrior, his face alight with excitement and holding something in his hand, rushed over to him.

"General! General!"

"What is it? Why are you in such a panic?" General Karl frowned.

The newcomer was one of his subordinates, Parker, the son of an old friend.

"General! A Recruitment Order! It’s a Recruitment Order from the Royal City!" Parker said excitedly.

"A Recruitment Order!"

Hearing those two words, General Karl’s eyes lit up. He snatched the Recruitment Order from Parker’s hand.

Staring at the familiar runes on it, he confirmed it—it was indeed a Recruitment Order!

’I may have been stagnating out here for so long I feel like I’m growing mold, but as a true Tiger Race Warrior, who wouldn’t want to return to the Royal City?’

’That’s where a real man should shed his blood and sweat.’

General Karl hadn’t come to this place willingly. When he was young, all he thought about was contributing to the Royal Court.

He never expected that before he could finish making his contribution, he would no longer be young.

Now, in his middle age, General Karl understood with perfect clarity: only in the Royal City were there opportunities for advancement!

"But... why would the Royal City suddenly issue a Recruitment Order?" General Karl frowned.

A Recruitment Order was a command for an Officer stationed in the provinces to bring his troops back to the Royal City.

One could imagine how detrimental such an action would be to the political balance of the Royal City! This was especially true for someone like Karl, who had been stationed away for a long time and harbored resentment.

The last time Recruitment Orders were issued was when the Empire marched south, but even then, only a select few were recalled.

General Karl was a veteran, however. In an instant, he connected the recent news of humans attacking the grassland with the current situation.

’Something’s wrong! Something is very wrong!’

"Where is the Thunder Eagle Knight who delivered the message?" General Karl asked.

Parker shook his head.

"He said he had other urgent matters, gave this to me, and flew off."

Hearing this, General Karl’s heart sank.
