Chapter 507: Chapter 241: A Letter from the Gray Dwarves
Robson had no idea how much time had passed when he suddenly heard a soft sigh.
He opened his eyes. Sunlight streamed through the flap of the tent, illuminating the face of the person on the bed.
Valentino must have been waiting for some time, as she had fallen asleep without even removing her armor. Though they had yet to take the final step in their relationship, they were long past the point of sleeping in the same bed.
Sleeping in one’s armor was something of a unique custom among the Frankish Nobles.
Golden Tiers didn’t catch colds. Robson grabbed a pillow from the headboard, gently lifted the Countess’s head, and slid the pillow underneath.
’Thinking back, I’ve really made a name for myself in this world.’
The Countess seemed to sense the subtle movement. Her dark eyebrows twitched, a sign that she was about to wake.
Just then, a shout came from outside the tent.
"Sir! Sir!"
The guards didn’t stop him. Judging by the voice, it had to be Bo Yang.
"Sir! There’s a griffin outside, it was circling for a while..."
Bo Yang burst into the tent, only to be met with the sight of the two of them nestled together.
Bo Yang had never been in a situation like this and was momentarily speechless.
Who in the entire army—or for that matter, the entire Frank Kingdom—didn’t know about Countess Fengman and the newly promoted General Robson?
’Did I come at a bad time?’
"Um, I’ll just go and send someone to find out what’s going on."
"What are you doing? Get back here!"
Seeing Bo Yang’s reaction, Robson knew he had gotten the wrong idea.
"I would never do... *that*... in a military camp."
"Besides, who would do it while wearing armor?" Robson added, shaking his head.
Only then did it register for Bo Yang: Countess Fengman was still fully clad in her armor.
Their conversation startled Valentino from her sleep. She stirred and looked at Robson, confused.
"What’s happening?"
Robson shook his head.
"It’s nothing. On the battlefield, military affairs come first."
"What is it? Go on," Robson said.
"Yes, sir. This morning, a griffin appeared over the camp. I asked Lord Everton if he could determine its origin, but he told me to come find you," Bo Yang reported.
’A griffin?’
Robson understood immediately. It had to be the Gray Dwarves.
’By now, the Beastmen at Bronze Pass must have gotten the news too.’
’Is it about the front line?’
This concerned the Beast Emperor, and by extension, Lord Robson’s grand ambitions as a great noble. He dared not delay and immediately followed Bo Yang out of the tent.
Valentino rubbed her sleepy eyes, confused. Suddenly, she felt something lumpy behind her. Turning her head, she saw a pillow embroidered with the crest of the Odogin Family.
Her woman’s intuition told her exactly whose it was. In the past, she might have blushed, holding such a personal item.
But now, all she felt was a rush of warmth.
She had always considered herself lucky. It was rare enough for a marriage alliance between nobles to result in meeting someone you could grow to love, let alone someone who loved you back.
Even rarer was for that person to be so incredibly capable.
The Countess shook her head, placed the pillow back where it belonged, and glanced to the side of the tent.
Sure enough, Robson hadn’t taken his helmet.
The man was meticulous when it came to important matters, often in ways that made Valentino feel she came up short.
But once he got busy, he always grew careless with the minor details.
A helmet wasn’t the most critical piece of equipment, but a Knight always kept it close. Even if it was a hassle, they would at least hang it from their horse. For the Frankish Nobles, war could erupt at any moment; these were habits ingrained from years on the battlefield.
Grabbing her own helmet and taking Robson’s as well, Valentino followed the path he had taken and hurried after him.
...
Robson, still unaware that Valentino was awake, looked up at the griffin in the sky. He knew at a glance it was one of the Gray Dwarves’.
The Gray Dwarves’ griffins typically flew quite low. While the Gray Dwarves were short, they were densely built—as the saying goes, good things come in small packages—and weighed more than twice as much as a human.
As a result, their mounts couldn’t gain much altitude.
Robson had clashed with those Gray Dwarf Griffin Knights before, during the defense of the Somme River.
Robson mounted Everton and soared into the sky. Seeing him, the Griffin Knight immediately flew forward to meet him.
The rider seemed to recognize him, for upon seeing Robson, he confidently handed over the letter.
Robson opened the letter right there in the sky.
Just as he’d suspected, it was about Bronze Pass.
By the time he finished the letter, Robson’s expression had grown grim.
...
"Sir."
Knight Boyang saluted as Robson descended.
Robson nodded just as Valentino caught up to them.
The Countess didn’t say much. She simply walked over to the orderly holding Robson’s horse and fastened the helmet to the saddle.
While a soldier could have done it, there was a certain charm in her doing it herself.
"Bo Yang, gather everyone here at once. I have an important announcement," Robson said.
"Yes, sir!"
After the battle at the Tiger Race Royal City, all the human nobles were exhausted.
After such a long campaign, even the notoriously warlike Frankish Nobles were reaching their breaking point.
No one truly loves war; their reputation for being warlike was born of necessity.
But when they heard it was Robson who had summoned them, they all rose to their feet and made their way over, despite their fatigue.
By now, anyone with eyes could see that Robson had a limitless future.
At the very least, his word would now be law in the lands beyond the pass.
"Sir... you’ve reached the Legendary Tier!"
Earl Uman stared at Robson in shock.
Robson wasn’t deliberately concealing his aura. There was no need.
It was just that most people there had never encountered a Legendary master, so they could only sense that Robson’s aura was incredibly potent.
Earl Uman, however, had seen one before, so he recognized it instantly.
Robson didn’t deny it, simply nodding.
"A fortunate breakthrough."
HISS! Earl Uman sucked in a sharp breath, his eyes filled with utter disbelief.
’To compare is to despair.’ he thought.
’Is there really such a person in this world? A genius in the Extraordinary arts, a genius in combat...’
’He’s a monster, born for the battlefield.’
At that moment, Earl Uman felt a surge of relief.
He could already see that Robson’s future was boundless.
’Thank goodness I didn’t choose to oppose him to the very end. Instead, I seized the opportunity to enter his inner circle.’
It wasn’t just Earl Uman present; a host of other nobles from beyond the pass were there as well.
Hearing this, their minds reeled. Their shock was many times greater than even Earl Uman’s.
Earl Uman had actually seen such a master before. They, on the other hand, had only heard of the Legendary Tier in stories, a realm of incredible power.
Robson, for his part, was satisfied with their reactions.
He hadn’t hidden his Legendary Tier power for this very reason: to solidify their resolve.
Without a doubt, once this war on the eastern front concluded, Lord Robson’s status in the lands beyond the pass would be absolute.
"Everyone, quiet down," Robson said.
"Gentlemen, I trust you’ve all heard rumors about the ultimate purpose of this campaign. Well..."
"I just received word. Beast Emperor Kemal is just ahead!"
The Beast Emperor!
At these words, everyone present held their breath, their focus sharpening.
Robson hadn’t shared this information previously, but some had their own sources and had already guessed that their final target was Beast Emperor Kemal.
Still, it had only been speculation. They had never received official confirmation from Robson himself.
The Beast Emperor! Intercept the Beast Emperor!
If you wanted to know what would stir the heart of a Frankish Noble, that phrase alone was more than enough.
At the very least, hearing those words instantly reinvigorated the assembled lords.
"My Lord, what are your orders?"
"Give the order, my Lord."
In the past, there might have been a lengthy discussion. But after the battle against Julian, the two wars with the Centaurs, and the assault on the Tiger Race Royal Court, Lord Robson’s glorious image was etched into their minds. The nobles from beyond the pass were all starting to act like the nobles of Qimo Fortress—unquestioningly loyal.
’This is what happens when the leader is too dominant,’ Robson thought. He didn’t actually like it this way; it wasn’t good to have subordinates who couldn’t think for themselves. But that was something he would have to change over time.
"I will take the first three regiments and advance immediately. I’ll give Bo Yang and Uman the specific arrangements. Ais, you’re with me. The Cavalry Team as well."
"Now, the entire army is to prepare for deployment at once. Go, get ready."
