Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Chapter 456 - 452: Beat on Sight

Chapter 456: Chapter 452: Beat on Sight

Gu Chen stood at the door, dumbfounded.

Lu Wei nearly failed to maintain his suave, refined smile...

Fan Youchen shot forward like a cannonball, hurtling toward the front seats.

Zhu Yong, sitting in the first row by the window, quickly reached out a helpful hand and grabbed him hard.

Otherwise, Fan Youchen, the human cannonball, would have likely smashed right into the driver, Xiao Wu, at the wheel.

Everyone’s lips twitched. The atmosphere in the vehicle suddenly became incredibly... awkward and tense.

Gu Chen had been about to laugh, but one look at his girlfriend’s thunderous expression had him quickly wiping the smile off his face and schooling his features into a serious look.

Lu Wei coughed twice and quickly turned his head aside.

Fan Youchen, nearly sent flying, was yanked back by Zhu Yong only to stumble into a 360-degree spin, almost landing right in Housekeeper Youen’s lap.

With quick reflexes, Housekeeper Youen shoved him into an empty seat nearby.

Fan Youchen sat in the empty seat, a completely bewildered expression plastered on his face for a good thirty seconds.

Song You’ai knew it was mean, but she just couldn’t hold it in. "PFFT," she snorted with laughter.

Gu Chen hurried to his girlfriend’s side, wrapping an arm around her. "Ningning, are you okay?" he soothed.

"What could possibly be wrong with me?" Xie Ning snapped. "That psycho tried to make a fool of me. I’ll make him the laughingstock of the entire base."

Completely oblivious to the fact that the man had been hitting on her, Xie Ning curled her lip in disgust.

Everyone: ...

Gu Chen nearly burst out laughing.

Recalling how he had pulled her from the car back then, Gu Chen had a sudden realization. ’It seems my girlfriend... has always had a soft spot for me!’

’See? That guy hits on her and gets a beating!’

’But I’ve been calling her "Ningning" this and "Ningning" that, getting close to her on purpose or not, and it seems like she’s allowed it from the very beginning.’

The sudden thought made Gu Chen ecstatic.

’Wow! It’s true what they say—good looks are everything!’

’This just goes to show, it pays to make the first move.’

"What are you doing here?" Xie Ning shot him a look. "Why haven’t we departed yet?"

"Five more minutes," Gu Chen said with a smile, squeezing her hand. "A team is joining the operation at the last minute."

Gu Chen didn’t elaborate, but Xie Ning could tell from his expression that there was something fishy about this team.

Xie Ning raised an eyebrow. "Did the X Realm send people to join the operation?"

Gu Chen nodded slightly. "Looks like it."

’Otherwise, why would they be made to wait for a notification? The procedure is too much of a hassle.’

Xie Ning’s brow furrowed slightly.

After a few minutes, the dazed Fan Youchen finally snapped out of it.

He stood up shakily and, with trembling hands, straightened his collar. "What happened?"

"Captain Xie, did you hit me?" Fan Youchen stared at Xie Ning with an expression of utter disbelief, as if he were looking at a prehistoric dinosaur.

Xie Ning had no desire to deal with him.

’Actually, strictly speaking... she knew this idiot.’

’But that was all in her past life.’

’Besides, in her past life, this idiot had been incredibly arrogant. His team was powerful, so he was always looking down his nose at everyone.’

’To be precise, she hadn’t had much interaction with the Golden World Court Team.’

’They had just run into each other once or twice during missions in Golden City.’

’In her past life, a pitiful wretch like her was on a completely different level from the captain of that well-funded team. They were in different worlds.’

’But she vividly remembered his punchable face.’

Xie Ning shot him a cold glance and spat out a single word. "Scram."

"Keep bothering me, and I’ll beat you every single time I see you."

Poor Fan Youchen. It was probably the first time in his life he’d been treated so rudely by a member of the female species, and his face instantly turned beet-red.

"C-Captain Xie, you’ve gone too far!" Fan Youchen was so furious he started to stammer. "I-I was just trying to get to know you! W-why did you hit me?!"

Song Shijun stood up, slung an arm around Fan Youchen’s shoulder, and started dragging him toward the door. "Buddy, my sister doesn’t like your method of ’getting to know’ people, understand?"

"When she tells you to get lost, you get lost. Cut the crap."

"My sister said you’re not to casually approach her or try to chat her up again. Otherwise, our entire team will beat you on sight every single time, kay?"

"Is your whole Starfire Team insane?" Fan Youchen was furious.

But with the young man’s powerful arm clamped on his shoulder, he found he couldn’t move. At all.

’He couldn’t break free at all. What was going on?’

’Is the Starfire Team really this strong?’

’Some random, seemingly frail-looking young man from their team has this much power?’

Song Shijun had half-dragged, half-pulled Fan Youchen to the vehicle’s entrance. Just as he reached out to shove him, a flash of white streaked past his eyes.

Song Shijun frowned, instinctively raising his arm to block.

A bizarre, formless attack suddenly grazed his arm.

Song Shijun barely felt any pain, but when he looked down, he saw a small, shallow gash on his arm.

"Brother!" Su Xiyue leaped up from her seat, her eyes hostile as she stared at the small creature that had suddenly attacked Song Shijun.

Song Shijun froze for a second. He turned his head and saw it was a fluffy, white kitten.

Its glistening black eyes met Su Xiyue’s, and with a surprisingly human-like gesture, it lifted its head and let out a "MEOW."

"What a joke! My brother was just going easy on you. You think he can’t beat you?"

"You’re playing with fire! Watch out, or you won’t be leaving this bus alive."

The moment Su Xiyue’s words fell, the kitten charged straight at her.

By then, Xie Ning and Cres had already reacted.

When the kitten had attacked Song Shijun with its Spiritual Ability just now, they had been caught off guard, allowing a mere kitten to get the upper hand.

’Only now did Xie Ning recall hearing someone in her past life mention a big-shot mutated animal within the Golden World Court Team.’

’So it was this mutated Spiritual System kitten.’

A chill gathered in Xie Ning’s eyes. She was about to make a move when she saw Cres beat her to it.

Xie Ning held back.

’This is a good opportunity for Cres to practice her Spiritual System superpower anyway.’

’Especially since this Spiritual System kitten seems quite strong. No wonder it’s so full of itself.’

The kitten’s Spiritual Blade attack was blocked by an invisible wall.

Its deep, dark eyes revealed a shockingly human-like expression of surprise.

It looked up and saw the little girl standing across from it, steady as a mountain, with an invisible barrier now protecting her.

"No wonder you’re so arrogant, daring to come on our bus and provoke us!" Cres shouted. "So you were just relying on this mutated Spiritual System cat!"

"Hmph! Watch this!" The moment she spoke, several Spiritual Blades shot out.

Xie Ning facepalmed. She quickly raised her hand, shielding the rest of the vehicle with Space Walls.

’Otherwise, with the way she was attacking, she’d destroy this perfectly good, reinforced minibus.’

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH! The Spiritual Blades flew straight for the kitten’s neck.
