Hello, Comrade. I'm Here to Marry You!

Chapter 340: The Gift from Lin Shumo

When Li Weichuan heard what Su Zhaozhao said, he froze for a moment before nodding. “Okay, I’ll give it a try, too.”

“You’re so handsome and tall, and you get good grades. I’m sure plenty of girls must like you,” Su Zhaozhao said, patting Li Weichuan on the shoulder.

“Thanks for the gift!”

“You’re welcome, Sister,” Li Weichuan said, his gaze fixed on Su Zhaozhao.

His gaze held a hidden meaning, but in the end, he said nothing more. He only told Su Zhaozhao, “I wish you and Brother Huai Zheng happiness, too.”

When Su Zhaozhao came out of the study, Xie Huaizheng immediately walked up and took her hand. “What were you two talking about? You were in there for so long.”

“Nothing much, just some little things,” Su Zhaozhao said to Xie Huaizheng with a smile.

They left the house and returned to their room.

Xie Huaizheng stared at the gift box in Su Zhaozhao’s hands. “Open it. Let me see.”

Seeing how desperate Xie Huaizheng was to look, Su Zhaozhao sighed helplessly and opened the box.

‘Xie Huaizheng is really… a little too possessive,’ she thought.

When she opened the box, a wooden sculpture was lying inside. It was carved in the shape of a person.

Su Zhaozhao picked it up, studied it for a moment, and couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s me.”

The next moment, Xie Huaizheng snatched the wooden sculpture from her hand. “That kid really does have designs on you. Stay away from him from now on.”

“Don’t worry, I already made things clear to him,” Su Zhaozhao said to Xie Huaizheng with a smile.

She had seen that Li Weichuan had developed a different sort of feeling for her, which was why she’d said what she did.

She wanted him to nip any hope in the bud.

After all, she was already with Xie Huaizheng; she couldn’t let the boy go on like this.

‘It can be respect, it can be admiration, but it absolutely cannot be that kind of romantic affection.’

‘Doing that would just be leading the poor kid on, wouldn’t it?’

“You knew he had a crush on you?” Xie Huaizheng asked in surprise. “I thought you had no idea.”

“Er, I only just realized it today.” Su Zhaozhao was too embarrassed to mention she was an expert in psychology. ‘The truth is, I was probably too close to the situation to see it clearly, unwilling to believe that Li Weichuan could have feelings for me, right?’

But the look in his eyes today was just too blatant, and it put Su Zhaozhao on alert.

That was why she couldn’t help but say what she did.

Li Weichuan’s crush on her was a bit surprising, and she hoped he wouldn’t continue to feel that way.

‘After all, they could never be together.’

Xie Huaizheng gently poked Su Zhaozhao’s forehead. “See? Now you know. Zhaozhao, stay away from him from now on.”

He put the gift away for her.

Su Zhaozhao added, “The wooden sculpture really looks like me, and the craftsmanship seems so delicate. I wonder who Wei Chuan had make it. I think we should get a pair made of us; that would be pretty cute.”

Xie Huaizheng didn’t tell Su Zhaozhao that it was obvious at a glance that Li Weichuan had carved the sculpture himself.

Although it looked intricate, some parts were still a bit rough. It was clearly the work of a beginner.

“If you really want one, I can learn how to do it, too,” Xie Huaizheng told her.

“No, no, there’s no need. You’re so busy,” Su Zhaozhao said. She watched him place the box inside a cabinet and simply let him be.

‘Sigh, what am I going to do with this big ball of jealousy?’

‘When I go to university, I’ll meet even more classmates and friends. It looks like I’ll have to be more careful then.’

At that, Xie Huaizheng turned, hugged her, and said softly, “I’ll try to be less busy from now on, okay? I’m going to be a regimental commander.”

Hearing this, Su Zhaozhao’s eyes lit up. “Wow, Camp Commander Xie is finally going to be Mr. Xie? My husband is amazing!”

Su Zhaozhao wasn’t wrong. It was indeed rare for someone as young as Xie Huaizheng to become a regimental commander.

“But will you be able to transfer to Beijing then?” Su Zhaozhao was still a little worried about this.

“I can,” Xie Huaizheng said with a smile. “I’ve already arranged it. So, Zhaozhao, you don’t have to worry.”

Now that everything was settled, Su Zhaozhao could finally relax.

As for her job at the military base’s elementary school, Su Zhaozhao had no choice but to resign.

The principal was very reluctant to see her go, but there was nothing to be done.

Fortunately, West State University had reached a cooperative agreement with the elementary school and was willing to send some graduating students to teach there as part of their practicum.

Although it wouldn’t be the same as having Su Zhaozhao teach every day, it was still a good arrangement.

The news of Su Zhaozhao’s university acceptance spread like wildfire. In no time, everyone who was on good terms with her began sending gifts.

The teachers from the elementary school also sent gifts. They weren’t expensive, but they were tokens of their affection.

Fu Yuling came to visit as well.

“Zhaozhao, congratulations! You’re amazing, getting into a university in Beijing! When I go back to Beijing, we can meet up,” Fu Yuling said to Su Zhaozhao with a wide smile.

Su Zhaozhao smiled and nodded. “Of course. We’ll get together again when we have the chance.”

“This is a gift for you. And Doctor Lin asked me to give you a gift from him, too.”

As she spoke, Fu Yuling handed Su Zhaozhao two gifts.

‘Lin Shumo,’ she thought.

Ever since they had cleared the air last time, Su Zhaozhao hadn’t seen Lin Shumo again.

When she returned, Lin Shumo had wanted to meet with her, but Su Zhaozhao refused him outright.

‘Because she knew that when it came to Lin Shumo, there was nothing left to say.’

‘It was one thing that he had chosen Gu Qingran, but he hadn’t even kept an eye on her, letting her run off to Beijing to cause trouble for her.’

‘The fact that she wasn’t holding it against him was already an act of mercy on her part.’

She had no idea what Lin Shumo had sent. When she opened it, she was shocked to find a ginseng root!

Judging by its quality, it was clearly very expensive.

Fu Yuling hadn’t expected Lin Shumo to send something like this either. Her eyes widened. “Doctor Lin is so extravagant! Just as you’d expect from a doctor, giving such a precious medicinal herb as a gift.”

There was a piece of paper tucked inside. Su Zhaozhao took it out and glanced at it. It was filled with words of apology, acknowledging that he knew Gu Qingran had come and hurt her.

“Zhaozhao, I know you don’t wish to see me, so I asked Yu Ling to deliver this to you. I hope that from this day forward, your life is smooth, peaceful, and joyful.”

Looking at the note, she saw that Lin Shumo’s handwriting, much like the man himself, was elegant and refined.

But Su Zhaozhao felt she couldn’t accept something so valuable. ‘Lin Shumo’s family isn’t well-off. Who knows where he even got something this expensive?’

‘As an apology, it’s far too much.’

Because of this, she asked Fu Yuling to wait for a moment.

She then grabbed a pen and paper, jotted down a few words, folded the note, and tucked it back into the box with the ginseng root.
