The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First

Chapter 238: Showcasing Cuisines

He had long heard Francis Grant mention that Luna Dawson’s space could keep things fresh and had even provided the base with many crop seeds. At the time, he had been amazed by the uniqueness of her superpower. But seeing it with his own eyes now was even more shocking—the supplies in this woman’s space were unexpectedly abundant! He stared fixedly at Luna Dawson, somewhat dazed for a moment, his eyes filled with shock.

Talent, sure enough, was an insurmountable chasm… If only a single person with this talent had appeared among the major families, how many precious supplies could have been saved after the apocalypse began?!

Clayton Churchill was completely dumbfounded, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg. He and Kyle Keith already enjoyed the highest benefits at the base, yet fresh fruit like this had been out of stock for two or three months. A month ago, even the frozen fruit had been completely depleted. Now, the higher-ups in the base strictly rationed the canned fruit for themselves.

He never expected to see so much pre-apocalyptic fresh fruit again in this post-apocalyptic world! He rubbed his eyes, looking back and forth between Luna Dawson and Kyle Keith with a face full of disbelief, murmuring, “Am I seeing things? Are these real strawberries and pineapples?”

Beside them, Kevin Keane, who was already accustomed to this, picked up Luna Dawson’s bowl and served her a bowl of dregs vinegar seafood. It was filled with her favorite shrimp and roe-packed crabs. His tone was lazy but full of tenderness, and he deliberately shot a glance at the stunned Kyle Keith. “Little Boss, eat while it’s hot. It won’t taste good if it gets cold.”

Luna Dawson took the bowl, flashed a bright smile at Kevin Keane, then turned to the two dazed men opposite her. She waved a hand and said with a smile, “Don’t just sit there. Eat up. It won’t be as savory once it cools.”

The savory aroma of the meat and crab stew, mixed with the wine fragrance of the dregs vinegar, pierced through the air and directly hit everyone in the vicinity. The soft and glutinous chicken feet and wings were rich and flavorful, and every crab was packed with roe. With just a single bite, the meat of the chicken wings and feet practically melted off the bone. One bite of it was enough to polish off half a bowl of rice!

Most of the shells on the legs of the glossy king crab had already been removed by Wayne Dawson. He had done this specifically so everyone could eat conveniently and enjoyably while out on a mission. The camping table was packed to the brim. Even before the apocalypse, people rarely ate such a lavish meal, let alone now.

Sunset Squad’s food was actually this good! Tears of emotion uncontrollably flowed from the corners of Clayton Churchill’s mouth; his heart was brimming with excitement. He hadn’t expected Captain Dawson to refrain from holding a grudge against their entire group over that incident, even remembering her promise to treat them to a meal.

“Captain Dawson, conditions are tougher while out on a mission compared to being at the base. There’s no need to go to such great expense.”

Of course he knew how tight supplies were right now. Let alone a seafood feast, many people couldn’t even bear to eat rice, surviving day to day on nutrient solutions. When they participated in the escort mission together previously, he had never seen the Sunset Squad eat so extravagantly. They must have planned to return the favor this time, specially preparing such a meal for them. In truth, there was no need to put in so much effort. The thought alone was enough. This was perhaps a bit too grand!

Moreover, everyone else was staring with burning eyes. He didn’t even need to activate his Spiritual Ability to directly feel the hunger and thirst in their gazes.

Luna Dawson picked up a plump oyster, popped it into her mouth, and chewed slowly. Only after swallowing did she lazily speak. “It’s no great expense. This is how we usually eat.”

Clayton Churchill was left utterly speechless.

The others, whose eyes were practically glowing green with envy, were equally stunned.

Luna Dawson scooped up a spoonful of soup and slowly drank it before continuing, “As the captain of the Sunset Squad, I will never mistreat our people, animals, or seedlings. Whatever I have, they get to eat.”

Ordinary survivors were, of course, treated differently than these squad members. Since they had reaped the benefits of this mutation, whether their living conditions were good or bad naturally depended on their own hard work. Luna Dawson’s family ate and drank luxuriously, and there was no need to hide it from these people.

In her past life, she had possessed mediocre superpowers, but she had still stood tall, eating and drinking what she earned herself. When she saw the rich diets of the High Order squads, she had been envious, but never jealous. After all, those supplies were gathered through their own skills.

Because Luna Dawson had stored away all the supplies, the entire floor appeared incredibly empty, allowing every sound to travel clearly throughout the massive space. Hearing Luna Dawson’s confident words, the others couldn’t help but widen their eyes.

No wonder she was the captain! Among so many men who seemed to have a stronger presence than her, every single one submitted to her! This was a crazy post-apocalyptic world, after all. She was practically the richest woman alive! They really wanted to go over and beg for a bite!

Not far away, Sharon Sloan’s face turned green with envy upon seeing this scene. She was so furious she nearly dropped the cup noodles in her hand. The braised egg and instant noodles she was so proud of were simply not worth mentioning in the face of Luna Dawson’s king crab and fresh fruit!

How could that bitch eat so well! What gave her the right?!

The surrounding members of the Omni Squad also looked toward Luna Dawson’s tent with eyes full of envy, their mouths watering with greed. Looking down at the instant noodles in their own hands, the food suddenly didn’t seem so appetizing anymore.

Sharon Sloan trembled with anger, but there was nothing she could do. She could only stomp her foot fiercely and turn to duck into her own tent. Out of sight, out of mind.

Why wasn’t she the one who awakened a Space Ability? If she had, her talent would absolutely not be inferior to Luna Dawson’s! In that case, the supplies hoarded in the corporation’s name could be kept on her own person! Why would she need to suffer such petty grievances from Luna Dawson now?!

The other ten members of the Genesis Team gripped their boxed meals, their facial features scrunched together as they swallowed with resistance.

“Who gets it… Every day it’s all sorts of frozen meat stewed with mutant snake. I’m about to grow snake scales from eating so much of it!”

Someone shoveled a mouthful of rice into their mouth, chewing mechanically, but their gaze uncontrollably drifted to the side.

“This seafood aroma is killing me!” another person chimed in.

In truth, the various dried vegetables stewed in animal fat and the frozen meat stewed with mutant snake meat were quite delicious. But no one could stand eating it every single day, for every single meal. Usually, they would just fry some rice in private or cook various types of instant noodles and other quick meals to change up the flavor.

Now, compared to this aroma, they suddenly felt that life was meaningless. It really smelled incredibly good over there! They wanted to eat it so badly!

Back at the table, Clayton Churchill’s chopsticks were practically flying. He demolished three large bowls of cured meat rice with the dishes in just a few minutes before finally slowing his pace. Only then did he grab a large crab leg and slowly gnaw on it. He had been a bit restrained during the last treated meal and hadn’t been able to eat properly. This time, he had to savor it properly. After all, these ingredients would only become scarcer in the future.

Although Kyle Keith had been astonished, he quickly recovered his usual gentle and refined demeanor, chatting and laughing with Luna Dawson as he ate. He offered genuine praise. “Did Uncle Dawson make all of this? He truly lives up to his reputation as a chef with decades of experience.”

Hearing this, Luna Dawson nodded. “My uncle made the king crab, and I made the other three dishes. Is it to your liking, Captain Kessler?”

A flash of amazement crossed Kyle Keith’s eyes. “Captain Dawson’s culinary skills are just as eye-opening as your superpower!”

Miles Dawson immediately chimed in upon hearing this, “If you round up, it counts as me making it too! I prepped the chicken feet and wings!”

Aaron Palmer was surprised. “That counts?! Then the seafood was washed by me, Brother Kevin, and Brother Ian!”

Rhonda Dawson looked at the two claiming credit and said in amusement, “Stop arguing. You all had a part in it. It couldn’t have been done without any of you.”

A gentle smile on his face, Kyle Keith offered a very sincere compliment, “Your squad is truly united.”
