A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 229: Hospital Proof

Chapter 229: Chapter 229: Hospital Proof

"What do you mean by hurting you! I’m warming the room for my precious grandson! You need good health to give birth to a healthy, chubby grandson; I’m doing this all for you."

Grandma Wang listened to Zhang Xiaomei’s accusations and insisted on having everyone come out and judge.

Aunt Liu listened to the commotion and stepped out, noticing Zhang Xiaomei’s pale face. She frowned and looked at Grandma Wang. "Grandma Wang, look at Xiao Mei’s face. Does she look like a healthy person to you? Everyone knows you want a grandson, but is this medicine really good? You can’t just claim there’s no problem without question. How about going to the hospital for a check-up?"

"Check-up for what! I paid a hundred bucks for that medicine! How could there be a problem! Others can give birth to chubby babies, why is Zhang Xiaomei being so delicate? This won’t do, that won’t do—all because she herself is the problem." Grandma Wang, instead of being persuaded by Aunt Liu, was even more angered.

She felt that Aunt Liu was simply trying to prevent her from having a grandson, opposing her.

"You may have spent a hundred, but does that medicine deserve a hundred bucks? Why are you afraid of a check-up then? If it worked, you’d have a grandson by now. I’m just worried that this medicine isn’t at all effective and ends up harming people." Aunt Liu also got angry, glaring at Grandma Wang with a sidelong glance.

Everyone understands the wish for a grandson, but that doesn’t mean wanting a grandson is reason enough.

Not taking Zhang Xiaomei’s health seriously—isn’t that harmful?

"You all don’t get it! Don’t flaunt your sons in front of me." Grandma Wang wouldn’t listen, insisting that Zhang Xiaomei drink the medicine. "You must drink this medicine today, or I’ll have my son divorce you."

"This old lady, do you think it’s still the old days? Divorce? It’s a new era now! Your ways won’t work here! If Zhang Xiaomei doesn’t agree to divorce, even if you call your son, it won’t matter. That would be destroying a marriage, and you’d end up in jail." Aunt Liu spoke loudly.

She wasn’t afraid of Grandma Wang.

Zhang Xiaomei’s complexion improved as she heard everyone speaking up for her.

"I don’t care; you must drink this medicine today!" Grandma Wang cried stubbornly.

"There’s no way I’ll drink this medicine again!" Zhang Xiaomei also firmly refused.

"It must be that brat from the Lu Family, causing trouble! Such a young age, spouting nonsense."

Fu Xiaoxiao didn’t want to intervene initially, but when Grandma Wang targeted Lu Lin, she couldn’t stay silent. Slowly, she opened the door and walked out.

"Grandma Wang, I don’t like what you’re saying! Xiao Lin kindly reminded you, and instead of being grateful, you’re blaming a child—are you just ruining our traditional virtues like that?" Fu Xiaoxiao wouldn’t indulge her; she could talk about anyone except the person she was protecting.

"Who asked for his kind reminder? He’s just causing trouble. Now Zhang Xiaomei won’t drink the medicine!" Grandma Wang said angrily.

"Why don’t you consider your own issues? If this were good medicine, would anyone refuse to take it? Your medicine might not be good and could even cause harm! My son said the medicine is fake, but you refuse to believe him. You think spending a hundred must mean it’s genuine, but why don’t you ask your so-called master why there’s no effect after so long?" Fu Xiaoxiao retorted directly.

"What if you want to find your so-called master now but can’t? They’ve probably run off with your hundred and are even laughing at how big of a fool you’ve been!" Fu Xiaoxiao’s words were not only sharp but hit right at the heart. Grandma Wang pointed at Fu Xiaoxiao, her face red with anger.

Aunt Liu silently gave Fu Xiaoxiao a thumbs-up.

"Impossible, the master would never deceive me! You’re just jealous!" Grandma Wang stubbornly denied being scammed.

"If you’re going to be unreasonable, then there’s nothing left to say! Let’s go straight to the hospital for a check-up! Didn’t you claim it’s good medicine? Take Xiao Mei to the hospital; it’ll reveal whether it’s a master or a fraud." Fu Xiaoxiao said, pointing at Zhang Xiaomei.

"If you want a healthy, chubby grandson, her health must be good, right? Check Xiao Mei’s health now; it’ll prove there’s nothing wrong with your medicine. Then she won’t have an excuse to refuse." Fu Xiaoxiao’s words were exactly what Grandma Wang wanted; she just wanted to prove she wasn’t wrong.

"Fine! Let’s go! My medicine is definitely fine." Grandma Wang said as she dragged Zhang Xiaomei to the hospital.

Fu Xiaoxiao followed along with amusement.

Aunt Liu saw this, abandoned cooking, and clung to Fu Xiaoxiao’s arm, joining in.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Grandma Wang dragged Zhang Xiaomei straight to the nurse’s station, demanding a check-up.

"You need to check my daughter-in-law’s health immediately to see if there’s any problem with her body," Grandma Wang confidently insisted, certain her medicine was fine, and demanded that the nurses issue an order.

"Grandma, we can’t do that here. You have to see a doctor; this is just the nurse’s station." The nurse replied helplessly. You also need to see a doctor for a medical examination, not find a nurse.

"Where’s the doctor?" Grandma Wang frowned and asked.

"What kind of issue do you want to check? Any discomfort?" The nurse inquired.

"Just a general health check-up – any doctor will do." Grandma Wang waved and said.

Zhang Xiaomei was helpless. Grandma Wang didn’t realize that modern hospitals have several departments, and not just one doctor handles all illnesses.

"Oh? Sister-in-law, what brings you here?" Xu Yan was wandering towards his office when he unexpectedly spotted a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye, and curiously approached.

"Xu Yan?" Fu Xiaoxiao turned around and saw Xu Yan, smiling.

"What happened?" Xu Yan, seeing Fu Xiaoxiao staring at the figures of Grandma Wang and Zhang Xiaomei ahead, was piqued with curiosity and inquired.

"She bought fake medicine, hoping to force prosperity through childbirth, and as a result, Zhang Xiaomei took it and had issues. She doesn’t believe it, so I brought them to the hospital for a check-up." Fu Xiaoxiao pointed at Grandma Wang and Zhang Xiaomei, satisfying Xu Yan’s curiosity.

"Oh? I’m familiar with this situation! Watch me." Xu Yan’s eyes lit up upon hearing the situation.

Adjusting his clothes, he walked up to Grandma Wang and Zhang Xiaomei. "You need a health check-up? Follow me then!"

"Can you help with the check-up?" Grandma Wang glanced at the well-dressed Xu Yan, feeling a bit more trusting.

"He’s the best doctor in our hospital, Doctor Xu." A nurse glanced at Xu Yan and helped introduce him.

"Great, help check my daughter-in-law quickly." Grandma Wang grabbed Xu Yan’s hand, urging him to see Zhang Xiaomei promptly.

"Hold on, follow me then!" Xu Yan said, looking at the ever-curious crowd, leading them to his office.

"Come, have a seat." Xu Yan gestured for Zhang Xiaomei to sit down.

Under the scrutinizing gaze of Grandma Wang, Xu Yan felt Zhang Xiaomei’s pulse. His face, initially smiling, turned serious the moment he did.

"What did you give her to eat, that her body is so depleted?" Xu Yan’s face darkened as he suddenly turned to look at Grandma Wang.

"Just...just the fertility boosting medicine! I spent a hundred bucks on it! It guarantees a son..." Grandma Wang, originally steadfast, gradually felt guilty under Xu Yan’s gaze.
