Chapter 210: Chapter 145: Baby, Then Just Consider It a Good Deed for the Day
At 8 PM sharp, Mrs. Bao went live.
Her Bao fans, who had been eagerly waiting, flooded into the stream room the moment they received the notification that she was online. The chat immediately erupted into a flurry of conversation.
Not even the constant stream of donation alerts scrolling by could obscure their enthusiasm.
Many of her Bao fans seemed accustomed to this, simply picking up their conversations right where they left off.
Shu Yao said to her fans,
"No big surprises today. I steamed a lot of rice when I made omurice yesterday, but the big eater in our house ate up all the other ingredients.
So, I’m just using the leftover rice from yesterday, the pitifully small amount of ingredients our big eater left me in a sudden fit of conscience, and some fresh stuff my personal shopper delivered this afternoon to make some fish rice balls."
She added, "My son loves fish, you know, so I tend to stock up on it."
The fans who had started following Mrs. Bao more recently had already learned this from the old-timers.
In truth, there wasn’t much of a distinction between old and new fans, since Mrs. Bao hadn’t been streaming for very long. But even though they all had roughly the same tenure, the original batch of fans always carried a certain air of superiority whenever they piped up in the chat.
"Here’s what the finished rice balls look like."
Shu Yao showed everyone a small batch of the rice balls she had made that afternoon.
Shaped rice balls of various sizes were nestled together in a flat, round bowl. There were brown bear faces with big noses and round ears, pink bunny faces with long ears and rosy cheeks, and little yellow duckling faces with flat red beaks.
Nearly-black fish roe formed their eyes, while finely cut seaweed was used to outline their noses and mouths.
Each animal-faced rice ball looked incredibly lifelike. The cuteness overload was so powerful that her Bao fans almost forgot they were looking at delicious food.
[AHHHH, THEY’RE SO CUUUTE!]
[MY MAIDEN HEART!!! Screenshotting this! I’m making this my Light Brain’s wallpaper!!!]
[Ahem, just a reminder, that’s copyright infringement.]
Shu Yao picked up a white, rabbit-faced rice ball with her bare hands and took a big bite.
The chat exploded.
[Bunnies are so cute! How could you eat a bunny!]
[Duckies are so cute! How could you eat a ducky!]
[Bears are so cute! How could you eat a bear!]
Her Bao fans were overcome with a wave of affection.
Shu Yao’s bite revealed the generous fish filling packed inside the rice ball.
The conversation finally got back on track.
[That’s so much fish! It looks delicious!]
[Can we get to the tasting portion already, Mrs. Bao?!]
Everyone began to eagerly await the tasting segment.
But as a dedicated food streamer, Mrs. Bao knew some steps were essential.
Shu Yao laid out the supplementary ingredients she had prepared earlier.
There was ham and shredded seaweed for the bunny-faced rice balls, carrot slices and corn kernels for the duckling ones, a soy-based broth to color the bear faces, and a small dish of caviar for the eyes.
There was also a small bowl of pre-cooked fish filling.
Shu Yao made sure to explain, "For this fish filling, I first dehydrated it in the oven, then steamed it, deboned and minced it, and finally seasoned it. It’s fully cooked, so you can eat it as is.
When you prepare the fish this way, it looks fluffy, but the texture is actually quite firm. It makes for a pleasant surprise.
And this broth for coloring the bear faces? It’s just the liquid left over from steaming the fish, mixed with soy sauce. I won’t waste time going over the exact ratios.
Later, I’ll have my assistant send the whole process for making the rice balls to Bai Meng. Anyone who wants the recipe can ask her for it."
One of her Bao fans, who was also a food streamer, asked: [Excuse me, Mrs. Bao, are you collaborating with the streamer Bai Meng?]
Shu Yao patiently answered the fan’s question. "I wouldn’t call it a collaboration. In the food streaming world, we’re all just people who love food and cooking. Instead of being competitors, I think it’s better to be friendly, improve together, and chat privately to build connections. That’s much better than all the infighting, don’t you think?"
[Mrs. Bao, you put it perfectly! And even if it were a competition, all those other streamers combined are no match for you!!!]
Shu Yao smiled.
"Now, don’t put me on too high of a pedestal. Maybe my cooking is a *little* bit better than other streamers, but the ability to make you all lose yourselves in my delicious food? That comes from pure, natural talent.
