Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Ran Into an Acquaintance
"It’s getting harder to survive in the Underworld," Yang Bo muttered to himself. "There are too many tribes. If my Disguise isn’t good enough, running into enemies will be a real headache." He carefully navigated through the underground tunnels, choosing untrodden paths. Along the way, he spotted a few small animals but couldn’t be bothered to pay them any mind.
Of course, the main reason was that the Disguise Skill he gained from those lizards had already reached the Grandmaster level. He didn’t plan on farming them anymore, especially since killing them would expose his tracks.
Suddenly, Yang Bo heard a faint sound. It sounded like someone crying. He hurried over to see exactly what was happening.
As the noise grew closer, he became increasingly cautious. Although he had his Invisibility Ability, there was no telling if someone possessed a Superpower that could counter it. When he peeked toward the ground ahead, he spotted a familiar face.
"King Acquaintance?" Yang Bo thought, looking at the large group. There were over 300 people in total, 200 of whom belonged to a single tribe. He recognized one of the leaders—the man with a tiger’s face. He seemed to be the king of some tribe, the very same guy who had let him off the hook before.
"This bastard actually went and robbed his own peers?" Yang Bo mused in astonishment. "While his allies were out attacking the Alliance outpost, he raided their home? How can anyone be this shameless?" At a glance, he could see these men carrying bags of all sizes, accompanied by a group of young women. Even though they were Mutants, it was easy to tell they were women. They were weeping incessantly, clearly taken against their will.
"Why exactly did this guy let me go last time?" Yang Bo wondered, his doubts resurfacing. He had been puzzled for a long while over why this man had spared his Mecha.
"Well, this works out," he thought. "If I follow him back to his tribe, I’ll figure out how to get to Outpost 16. At the very least, I can check on Iron Bull and then go hunt for invisible mice." He decided to tail the group. Wandering aimlessly around the Underworld might lead to unpredictable encounters. Who knew if he might stumble upon some formidable Mutated Beast or a powerful Mutant? The Tiger-faced King and his crew looked quite strong, so it was unlikely anyone would dare provoke them.
The group was clearly taking a break in the cavern below, eating something. At first, a few of the women refused to eat, but after the Tiger-faced King’s subordinates slapped them a couple of times, they began to eat between their sobs. However, Yang Bo didn’t find these women very appealing. For one, most of them bore distinct animalistic traits. Their clothing was also somewhat revealing. The main issue was that these beastly features weren’t exactly aesthetically pleasing. If there had been some cute catgirls, Yang Bo wouldn’t have minded taking a few extra glances. While some of these women had nice figures, their skin was covered in patches of scales or other odd textures, making them look rather creepy.
Once they were well-rested, the Tiger-faced King led his men forward. It was obvious they were organized, with scouts dispatched to both the front and the rear.
Relying solely on sound, Yang Bo trailed the Tiger-faced King’s group. They marched without incident for over an hour.
"King, someone is tailing us!" a rear scout suddenly ran up to report.
"Lead the others ahead. My guards will stay behind," the Tiger-faced King ordered, not showing a hint of panic.
Their voices reached Yang Bo’s ears clearly, but he couldn’t understand the language these Mutants were speaking. It sounded like a specific tribal dialect. "How was I able to understand him last time, then?" he wondered.
Yang Bo watched as the Tiger-faced King’s group split into two. The main force took the women and the looted goods and continued on, while the Tiger-faced King and his guards remained in place, waiting.
When Yang Bo saw who was chasing them, he almost burst out laughing. It was the very same unlucky bastard who had been chasing him earlier! The guy’s Forging Workshop had been raided by Yang Bo, and it seemed his home base had just been covertly wiped out by the Tiger-faced King.
"Third Huang, are you out of your fucking mind?!" Black Blade General cursed furiously. Following the trail, he had arrived only to find his "good neighbor" blocking the path.
"Black Dog, you’d better watch your fucking mouth, or I’ll have to put you in your place," the Tiger-faced King shot back. Seeing how few men his rival had brought, he felt a wave of relief.
At this point, Yang Bo was intrigued. The two were speaking the Alliance’s common tongue. This meant the Alliance language was universally understood in the Underworld, while individual tribes still retained their own dialects or racial languages.
"Third Huang, you’re a piece of shit! We went to attack the Alliance outpost, and you backstabbed me while I was away. Return everything you stole and apologize right now, or this is far from over!" Black Blade General shouted, pointing right at the Tiger-faced King’s nose.
Hearing this, the Tiger-faced King looked at his subordinates on either side and asked, "Did any of you visit Black Dog’s home?"
His men eagerly chimed in.
"King, we don’t have time to go to anyone else’s place! We’ve been patrolling with you this whole time."
"King, maybe he’s just looking for trouble. He probably didn’t get anything out of the Alliance and is trying to extort you instead."
"King, a shameless guy like him is capable of anything. We should be careful."
Smirking with an incredibly punchable expression, the Tiger-faced King turned back to his rival. "See that, Black Dog? We have no idea what you’re talking about. If you keep spouting nonsense, be careful, I might not let you off the hook either."
Black Blade General felt like his lungs were about to explode from anger. "If you have the guts, step aside and let me chase them!"
To his surprise, the Tiger-faced King actually stepped aside, clearing the path. "Go ahead, Black Dog. We haven’t seen a thing anyway. But next time you speak, you’d better have evidence. Throw around wild accusations again, and don’t blame us for getting physical. Looks like you didn’t get a good deal at the Alliance this time, huh? Is this all the men you have left?"
Hearing this, Black Blade General was rendered speechless. There was no way in hell he dared to cross now. The Tiger-faced King’s main force was definitely up ahead. If he went through, he would be sandwiched between the two groups. He had only brought about a dozen men with him. Most of his remaining forces had to stay behind to clean up the mess at his tribe, stand guard, or escort the workers from the Forging Workshop back home.
"Third Huang, remember this. We are far from over. Your men better not step outside, because I’ll kill every single one I see," Black Blade General threatened. He didn’t dare stay any longer. At least he knew who the culprit was. A gentleman’s revenge is a dish best served cold.
Yang Bo watched in surprise as the unlucky general actually turned and walked away. "This tribal king is smart," Yang Bo realized. "He’s already suffered heavy losses. If a fight broke out here, the outcome would be unpredictable. And if he lost, his entire tribe would be wiped out!"
"King, shouldn’t we be careful of him?" a subordinate whispered as Black Blade General retreated.
"What’s there to be afraid of? We have the numbers, and he just took a massive hit," the Tiger-faced King replied with a wide grin. "Besides, several of his neighbors hold grudges against him. I’ll send messengers to them in a bit."
"This guy is so wicked!" Yang Bo thought, utterly dumbfounded. He never expected the infighting among Mutants to be this fierce, practically a fight to the bitter end.
