Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 71: Observations

Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Observations

The transport plane slowly lifted off, accelerating faster and faster. As it pierced through the atmosphere, friction against the plane’s Energy Shield created a spectacular, glowing display.

"Tsk, tsk, what incredible speed," Yang Bo mused. He knew perfectly well the immense velocity required to generate atmospheric friction during ascent. On Earth, astronauts had to undergo extensive, specialized training, yet many still suffered physical tolls after just a few launches.

The transport plane soon cleared the atmosphere. The massive airport appeared before Yang Bo for the first time. The entire structure resembled a giant, rigid crab. He had initially assumed the airport’s glow came from reflecting the nearby star’s light, but to his surprise, it was entirely illuminated by its own artificial lights.

"Tsk, tsk, this Energy System is insane," he said. "Then again, it makes sense. The most advanced Mechas run on Antimatter Batteries, and even the third-generation models in my game use nuclear fusion batteries." The transport plane smoothly docked on one of the structure’s massive ’crab legs.’

The liquid inside the Energy Protection Pod drained away. Barely any time had passed since takeoff.

Inside the airport, green arrows lit up the floor. Yang Bo and his companions were riding in a vehicle resembling a small tram, following the glowing path. They were still wearing the same clothes they had arrived in.

The stout boss spoke up. "Interstellar voyages are incredibly dangerous. You have to worry about silent particle storms and Superpower radiation. Granted, there’s a high probability you won’t encounter any on a single trip. However, there’s a recorded case of a Spaceship that, over the course of a one-month voyage, endured over two hundred and eighty High-Energy Beam impacts.

"Genetic Evolvers possess Superpowers, giving them incredible physical endurance. But even they would have to wear Protective Suits when facing such frequent bombardment," the stout boss explained.

The boss held Yang Bo in high regard for two reasons. First, the young man had no psychological hang-ups about slaughtering small animals; if trained properly, someone like that could become a top-tier enforcer. Second, the boss suspected Yang Bo was already a Genetic Evolver. During Wu Bin’s last mission, Wu Bin hadn’t noticed the danger, yet this kid managed to escape remarkably fast. The prospect of having a subordinate with mysterious abilities was something the stout boss highly anticipated.

Since there was no Gravity inside the airport, similar small trams could be seen traveling along the walls and ceilings of the surrounding corridors, clinging securely without falling.

"Our clothing generates a gravitational effect," the stout boss said, noticing Yang Bo staring bewilderedly at a tram passing directly overhead. "It creates a localized Power with the floor beneath us, making it feel exactly like we’re standing on a planet.

"We’re riding in a gravity tram. Each of these vehicles has its own independent Gravity frequency, which creates a magnetic suspension with the tracks below...

"That’s the Spaceship we’ll be taking. It’s eighteen kilometers long and nine kilometers wide, while the Baisha Transport Ship reaches a towering height of five hundred meters.

"The entire vessel is built with a sealed honeycomb structure.

"Even if it gets struck by uncharted meteorites during an interstellar voyage, the overall structural integrity won’t be severely compromised," the stout boss said, pointing through the transparent window at a massive, flat Spaceship docked on one of the airport’s ’crab legs.’

Eighteen kilometers! Absolutely massive!

However, a Spaceship of this magnitude could only navigate through space. It couldn’t take off or land on a planet; otherwise, the immense planetary pull would cause the behemoth to collapse under its own weight. The airport was connected to the planet’s surface via space elevators and transport planes.

"That over there is a space elevator. It utilizes full magnetic propulsion," the stout boss noted matter-of-factly. "As regular citizens, our bodies can’t handle the extreme speeds of the space elevator."

It was undeniably fast. Yang Bo watched a shuttle-shaped object shoot upwards with a WHOOSH. The space elevator was surrounded by thick cables made of an unknown material, studded with glowing lights and various mechanical equipment. He guessed they worked together to form a magnetic levitation channel.

It reminded him of an Electromagnetic Cannon, except this system allowed the space elevator to control its internal suspension, acceleration, and deceleration.

"Alright, this is where we’ll be staying. These are the dedicated residential cabins—make sure you don’t leave this zone," the boss instructed as they boarded the Spaceship.

They arrived at an area that looked remarkably like a grand shopping mall. The center was a sprawling, hollow atrium soaring fifty to sixty meters high. The dome above displayed a brilliant blue sky, perfectly simulated to mimic planetary conditions.

Yang Bo’s living quarters were about a dozen square meters. It featured a private bathroom and a spacious double bed, bearing a striking resemblance to a standard express hotel room.

Yang Bo sat down to read the instruction manual. It detailed the showering process: once inside the sealed stall, you stripped down, and the water would atomize to wash your body. However, since you had to take off the Gravity Suit to bathe, you would experience weightlessness inside.

"I can even play games here," Yang Bo muttered in surprise. The cabin’s entertainment system offered various titles, including Mecha games, and the hardware was far superior to what he had in his dorm.

The ship’s directory listed an array of facilities: entertainment centers, a zoo, and—if a passenger felt lonely—they could even adopt a robotic pet... Wow. You could also rent androids. The manual explicitly guaranteed that their "crucial components" were brand new and unused, available in all sorts of models...

"Tsk, tsk." Skimming through the manual, Yang Bo realized this place was a fully independent community contained within its own self-sustaining, enclosed structure.

Deep in the interstellar void, there were still countless hazards beyond humanity’s detection capabilities. Every year, there were numerous incidents of uncharted meteorites striking Warships or even colliding with planets, entirely bypassing human sensors.

If a sealed cabin on the Baisha Transport Ship were struck by a meteorite, rescue robots would immediately stuff the passengers into life pods in record time. Meanwhile, maintenance robots would scramble to repair the ship as quickly as possible. If the ship was beyond repair, those life pods would convert into escape pods, automatically plotting a course to the nearest habitable planet or friendly Fleet...

Both his room and the wider community area were lined with what appeared to be windows, but were actually high-definition screens simulating the natural day-night cycle of a planet.

"This Gravity Suit is pretty interesting," Yang Bo remarked, observing how everyone around him was wearing travel-grade Gravity Suits.

Food and drinks were freely available with no restrictions, though dining was restricted to designated areas. Any food scraps and crumbs would be instantly sucked away by the ventilation system.

"What should I do now?" Yang Bo suddenly found himself at a loss. He decided against playing the Mecha game; who knew if the Energy System on this Warship had some sort of backdoor?

In this world, researching neural networks was strictly prohibited. It all traced back to a horrifying incident in the early days of the technology, where Hackers infiltrated the system and transmitted disturbing memories directly into users’ neural networks. It was said that within three years of the incident, every single victim had died by suicide. As for what exactly those memories entailed, there were no clear answers—or perhaps Yang Bo’s security clearance simply wasn’t high enough to access that information.

Subsequent studies revealed that once a neural network was breached, even a minuscule voltage spike was more than the human nervous system could withstand.

Just as Yang Bo was feeling utterly bored, the stout boss walked over and handed him a physical, paper book.

"Yang Bo, take a close look at this book. It covers the basics of Ancient Martial Arts and Secret Techniques. You can start practicing a bit to get a feel for it. Once we reach March Star, the company will give you an opportunity later on. As for which Secret Technique or Ancient Martial Arts discipline you choose, that will be entirely up to you.

"Remember, you absolutely cannot let any outsiders see this," the boss warned before leaving. "I’ll be taking my leave now. Just treat this like you’re resting at home. Relax."

Yang Bo nodded. Just as he was about to crack the book open, an intercom announcement echoed through the cabin, declaring that the Spaceship had officially begun its voyage. The estimated travel time was three months and twelve days.

Meanwhile, back on Pado Star, a figure received a message. A cold sneer touched their lips as they logged into a certain game and forwarded a message to a specific contact.
