Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 78: What a World

Chapter 78: Chapter 78: What a World

"None are missing!" The man inspecting the goods quickly opened the other safes. They were all filled with the same thing.

Yang Bo gasped. "Who has the guts to steal this much?" he wondered.

"Hurry up and take them," his companion urged upon hearing this.

"No, we need to find that person first. Otherwise, I’ll be exposed," the man inside replied frantically. "I have a big family. If they trace my tracks, they’ll be able to find the source of the Energy Stones."

"The cut was just made. The person couldn’t have gone far. Hurry!" he yelled after inspecting the opening on the safe.

"Let’s move the goods first. This is most of our brothers’ net worth," the man at the door disagreed loudly.

"There are marks here," the man outside called out. "I don’t know what left them."

Yang Bo was speechless. It was most likely from where he had been using the Training Mecha earlier...

"Go report to the Boss immediately. The two of us will look for the person first."

"Let’s take the Energy Stones first. What if they come back for them? The marks on the ground probably mean they were planning to use equipment to transport the Energy Stones, but ran off when they realized we were coming."

"Then we should definitely find them!"

Hearing the heated argument outside, Yang Bo sneaked out, ready to slip away.

"No, we can’t leave anyone alive on the ship. We’ll leave in the escape pods later and then blow up this Baisha Transport Ship. Otherwise, our supply channels will be exposed."

"Fine. We can throw the Energy Stones out using the escape pods as well."

Yang Bo had intended to leave, but hearing this, he immediately changed his mind. If these guys actually went through with it, wouldn’t he be completely screwed?

Cursing the bastards in his heart for seeking death, he returned to the small room from earlier.

The two men outside reached an agreement: they would take the Energy Stones first and stop searching for the person.

"Go find a transport cart. I’ll go inside and start moving the stuff out."

One of them came in to move the Energy Stones. The containers were designed to mask the energy fluctuations of the stones from detection.

As the man prepared to open a safe door, he suddenly froze. Was that a naked man floating in the air?

Then, his vision went black. An Energy Weapon had stopped just one millimeter in front of the eye sockets of his Helmet.

Warship Maintenance +8!

Yang Bo’s hands trembled slightly. He quickly stripped the man of his Battle Armor and stuffed his body into the clothing locker in the duty room. He then reshaped his own Energy Weapon to match the man’s, plucked a hair from the corpse’s head, and with a thought, activated Disguise.

He looked at himself. He had transformed!

He put on the man’s armor, then took the safe door he had cut open earlier and leaned it against the locker where the body was hidden to weigh it down.

"Do you need any help?" the man who had gone to find a transport cart returned and asked from outside.

"Yeah," Yang Bo grunted in response. The two of them began loading the goods. There were a full one hundred stones.

After they finished, Yang Bo let the other man operate the cart. He hadn’t yet figured out his next move. Was he supposed to follow these people to the Pirates’ Warship?

"That might actually work. At least it’s safe," Yang Bo thought, feeling a tinge of regret. He had assumed the area was deserted; who would have known there was a mole hiding here? No wonder the damn Pirates had managed to take control of this Baisha Transport Ship. It was all too easy for a maintenance worker to sabotage things.

Soon, two Mechas and four men in Battle Armor met up with Yang Bo and his companion. The group escorted the goods together.

Yang Bo didn’t know where they were going. They walked for half an hour. Since everyone present was a Genetic Evolver, their walking pace was incredibly fast. If ordinary people tried to navigate the interior of this eighteen-kilometer-long, several-hundred-meter-high Warship on foot, they would struggle immensely.

"Where is this?" Yang Bo wondered. As he emerged from a corridor, he saw what looked like a stadium layout. Many people were crouching in the center, surrounded by twelve Mechas and about twenty people...

Unsure of what to do next, Yang Bo spotted someone standing on the spectator stands in the distance. "The Pirate Leader?" he thought in surprise.

"AHEM!" Seeing the man he had just been working with walk up to speak with the Pirate Leader, Yang Bo cleared his throat and used Sound Wave Detection to listen in on their conversation.

"We can’t leave yet. Just kill him. Over the years, this ’good brother’ of ours has skimmed a lot of our hard-earned blood money. Once we’re out of here, I’ll send a message, and his whole family will disappear," the Pirate Leader whispered. This was heard by Yang Bo. Even though they were at least several hundred meters away and the voice was incredibly hushed, Yang Bo’s sound control was already at the Grandmaster Level.

Yang Bo’s face turned green. Why the hell was he so unlucky? And here he was, planning to sneak onto their Warship and find a chance to escape.

At that moment, the Mecha Pilot of one of the Mechas that had arrived with him stepped out of his cockpit and walked toward a side corridor.

"I’ll go too," Yang Bo quickly called out after seeing the restroom sign above the corridor. He then followed the pilot.

Yang Bo thought the other Pirates would be suspicious, but they weren’t. Having spent so much time together, the Pirates had a great relationship, treating each other like blood brothers.

SLASH!

The moment they entered the restroom, Yang Bo swung his Energy Weapon down, hacking the man to death.

Mecha Pilot +8!

"Sons of bitches, just you wait!" Yang Bo cursed before bolting.

He headed straight back to where he had moved the goods earlier, put the armor back on the corpse, and unleashed Electric Energy to char the body into a crisp. He had to destroy the evidence. If they discovered the man had died earlier, it might expose his abilities. This way, they would assume the guy had returned for some reason and been ambushed.

What Yang Bo didn’t know was that ten minutes after he left, the man who was supposed to take care of the guy Yang Bo was disguised as started wondering why he hadn’t returned. He headed to the restroom to check, intending to carry out the Boss’s order to eliminate him along the way.

To his shock, as soon as he entered the restroom, he found the hacked-to-death Mecha Pilot.

"That backstabbing traitor, that son of a bitch!" the Boss raged in the restroom. A Mecha Master! He had lost a Mecha Master who was also a good brother! The main issue was that Mechas were fundamentally configured to their users—their habits, command sequences, and so on. Even though the Pirate Gang had master keys, using someone else’s Mecha was highly inconvenient.

"Boss, let’s kill the traitor first!"

"Boss, this guy knows too much."

"That’s right, Boss."

"Leave three Mechas and five men here. The rest of you must absolutely find that bastard!" the Boss said through gritted teeth. "If all else fails, clear the cabins one by one. Break them open, one after another, and turn these damn mongrels into space trash!"

"That’s a good idea, Boss."

Meanwhile, Yang Bo arrived at the cargo hold. The hold was massive, with mountains of goods stacked inside. The cargo here was usually secured in place, but since they were in space, a lot of it was floating. The space was extremely tall and vast, with a spiral staircase winding around its perimeter. The elevators were out of service, as cargo was typically handled by robots.

"I should find a shipping container to hide in," Yang Bo thought, preparing to take cover.

He could still hear the sounds of people arguing. Cursing inwardly, he distanced himself from them.

"This...!" Yang Bo was dumbfounded when he used Metal Control to pry open a random container.

Countless Energy Weapons were secured on racks inside the container. At a glance, Yang Bo even spotted the exact Battle Armor he had seen earlier at the Energy Weapon shop.

"Haha, my luck is finally turning!" Yang Bo quickly went inside to grab the Battle Armor. This was good stuff!
