Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 458 - 266: Yu Ren Returns and the Fish School Evolves

Chapter 458: Chapter 266: Yu Ren Returns and the Fish School Evolves

Lu Jiamei, who was directing the migration of the Peach Blossom Base, rushed over when she heard a school of fish was approaching and Ren Yuanyang had gone to investigate.

"Oh, Yu Ren, when did you get here?" Lu Jiamei asked, a little surprised to see him.

"Just now," Yu Ren replied, his expression grave.

Seeing that Ren Yuanyang and the others also looked grim, Lu Jiamei furrowed her brow. "It’s just a school of fish, isn’t it? Why does everyone look like we’re facing a major threat?"

Yu Ren quickly explained what he had discovered.

Lu Jiamei’s eyes widened. "That blood rain can actually accelerate evolution and mutation?"

Yu Ren nodded. "The aquatic life is much more formidable now than it was before."

Long Zhan walked up to Ren Yuanyang and asked, "Master, the school of fish is very close. Should we test them with a torpedo?"

Ren Yuanyang gave a slight nod.

"Fire a torpedo immediately!" Long Zhan relayed the order.

Ren Yuanyang asked, "How many torpedoes do we have left?"

"After the last battle, we have fewer than a hundred remaining," Long Zhan replied, frowning slightly.

"Is it possible to resume production?" Ren Yuanyang asked.

"We’re researching it, but we can’t produce them yet," Long Zhan replied, shaking his head.

BOOM!

A massive wave erupted on the surface of the sea in the distance.

Everyone immediately looked toward the site of the explosion.

There were indeed some dead fish floating on the surface, but compared to the total size of the school, the number was insignificant.

"It seems torpedoes have limited effectiveness against these fish now," Long Zhan said, his brow deeply furrowed.

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly and ordered, "Spread some dizzy fish grass over there."

A nearby soldier immediately piloted a speedboat over the school and scattered a large amount of dizzy fish grass, but the fish showed no reaction whatsoever.

"It seems the fish have evolved an immunity to dizzy fish grass," Ren Yuanyang said with a long sigh. "We’ll have to rely on ourselves."

"They’re all in the water. Are we supposed to go in and fight them hand-to-hand?" Long Zhan asked, frowning.

"Hand-to-hand? You wouldn’t stand a chance," Yu Ren interjected.

Long Zhan paused, looking unconvinced. "How would you know?"

"He’s fought them before and lost," Ren Yuanyang explained. "And you know how strong Yu Ren is."

Long Zhan was taken aback again.

He knew Yu Ren’s combat prowess; he wasn’t even confident he could defeat Yu Ren himself.

If a Mutant that powerful couldn’t defeat the school, most Evolvers wouldn’t stand a chance.

"Then how are we supposed to fight them?" Long Zhan’s brow furrowed even deeper.

Ren Yuanyang considered for a moment, then said, "We’ll use electricity. Use the Sea Eagle Country’s nuclear-powered carriers to generate a high-voltage current. Have all nearby ships and survivors clear the area."

Long Zhan was momentarily stunned, then nodded immediately. "Yes, I’ll go make the arrangements right away!"

Soon, four nuclear-powered aircraft carriers moved into position.

The other fleets in the vicinity grew curious.

"What’s Dragon Base doing? Why are they suddenly deploying their carriers? Is someone attacking them again?"

"Impossible. Who doesn’t understand the situation by now? Attacking Dragon Base would be suicide."

"They aren’t coming to attack us, are they?"

"You’re overthinking it. Dragon Base wouldn’t give your paltry fleet a second glance."

Amidst the crowd’s speculation, Dragon Base issued a notice.

"Attention all vessels and survivors near Dragon Base. A large school of Evolutionary Fish has been detected approaching. We are preparing to use high-voltage electricity to halt their advance. Please clear the area around the nuclear-powered aircraft carriers to avoid accidental harm."

All the survivors were stunned for a moment when they saw the announcement.

"A school of Evolutionary Fish? We’ve run into them before, haven’t we? Can’t they just use dizzy fish grass to drive them off? Why the high voltage?"

"It’s obvious, isn’t it? The dizzy fish grass must not work anymore."

"You’re kidding. Does that mean the Banyan Forest is going to be eaten bare?"

"It’s very likely. The evolved fish are too strong. They’ll probably devour every last bit of vegetation."

"Doesn’t that put Dragon Base in danger? A forest that large is sure to attract huge numbers of fish!"

"Yeah, I guess this is one of the challenges of building the Duckweed Continent."

"From the looks of it, living on the Duckweed Continent might not be such a great thing after all."

"Exactly. I was planning on leasing a plot of land there, but now it looks like I’m better off just staying on my own ship."

"You guys have too little faith in Dragon Base. I have a feeling they’ll have a way to deal with those fish."

"Don’t be so naive. Dragon Base is strong, but they’re not invincible."

"Whatever. I believe in Dragon Base!"

The crew of the Iron Wing Fleet saw the discussion and began to worry as well.

Their captain, Wei Jing, had just finalized a leasing deal with Dragon Base, only for a school of fish to attack. This was incredibly bad luck.

"Captain, do you think we should give back the land we leased?" a nearby aide suggested.

Wei Jing glanced at him and shook his head decisively. "No. If we do that, how are we any different from fair-weather friends?"

The aide gave a wry smile. "I’m just worried our leased plot will be destroyed before we even get a chance to build on it. The loss would be too great."

"It’s fine. Dragon Base should have a plan," Wei Jing replied.

"Dragon Base’s previous plan relied on driving them off with dizzy fish grass. Now that it’s useless, dealing with such a massive number of sea creatures will be incredibly difficult," the aide persisted.

Wei Jing didn’t continue the discussion. Instead, he asked, "Let’s say Dragon Base really is destroyed by the fish. What do we lose?"

The aide, slightly taken aback, answered honestly, "A thousand-ton cargo ship."

"And let’s say Dragon Base survives and drives back the fish, but we’ve already backed out of our lease. What do we lose then?" Wei Jing continued.

The aide froze. He understood.

Wei Jing had risked a single thousand-ton cargo ship for the chance to forge a stronger bond between the Iron Wing Fleet and Dragon Base. Even if he lost, it was just one ship; the impact on their fleet as a whole would be minimal.

Understanding this, the aide nodded. "You’re right to think so far ahead, Captain. I was being shortsighted."

Wei Jing waved his hand and ordered, "Construction on our leased plot will proceed as planned. I’m going to head toward the fish school and see if Dragon Base needs our help."

"Yes, Captain!" the aide acknowledged, relaying the order.

The plot the Iron Wing Fleet had leased was, naturally, on the outskirts of the Banyan Forest. The nearby fleets could all see them beginning construction.

"The Iron Wing Fleet is still building? Don’t they know a school of Evolutionary Fish is attacking Dragon Base?"

"We’ve all been talking about it out in the open. How could they not know?"

"Then why are they still building? Aren’t they afraid the fish will destroy it?"

"Maybe they have faith that Dragon Base can handle the Evolutionary Fish."

"I can’t believe the Iron Wing Fleet is also blindly trusting Dragon Base."

Amidst the chatter, Wei Jing arrived at the location where the fish were expected to attack.

After identifying himself, Wei Jing was quickly given clearance and approached Long Zhan’s group.

"Captain Viking, why have you come at a time like this?" Long Zhan asked, frowning slightly.

"I came to see if there’s anything our fleet can do to help," Wei Jing replied in a low voice.

Long Zhan was slightly taken aback, then shook his head. "Thank you very much, but we don’t need assistance for now."

By this time, the four aircraft carriers were ready. Soldiers on the decks plunged large metal conductors, crackling with high-voltage electricity, directly into the water.

Arcs of electricity flashed across the surface of the sea, and a dense mass of fish floated to the top!

Seeing this, the onlookers erupted in cheers.

Ren Yuanyang observed them closely for a moment before ordering, "Quick! Haul all of those fish in, now!"

Long Zhan paused for a second, then immediately replied, "Yes, Master!"

Long Zhan immediately dispatched several speedboats to retrieve the fish floating on the surface.

Standing to the side, Wei Jing was astonished to see Long Zhan acting so respectfully toward a young man, even addressing him as "Master."

’Who is that man? His status seems much higher than Long Zhan’s.’

A possibility quickly occurred to Wei Jing. ’This person must be the leader of the Peach Blossom Base!’

’Dragon Base grew by relying on the Peach Blossom Base, so only someone from there would command such respect from Long Zhan and his men.’

Just then, a message came in from the speedboats that were retrieving the fish.

"Captain, the fish are coming to! They must have only been stunned!"
