Chapter 1288: A Hand In The Shadows
When Lady Kesa finished speaking, she was greeted by a wave of silence.
It remained this way for a few seconds until a voice sounded from one of the private rooms above.
"10,000,000 gold coins. Additionally, I will offer my services as a protector for three years. Beyond that, I will consider you a benefactor of mine for a lifetime." The voice stated.
The merchants and other auction participants outside the private room released a helpless sigh. They figured their chances of getting their hands on the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace were extremely low. But, they did not expect the first bid to immediately offer the same amount of gold coins that someone from the Duvelle family did when they tried to obtain the Ore of Dreams.
Furthermore, the person who made the bid offered their services as a protector for three years. Someone capable of offering 10,000,000 gold coins and could occupy a private room at the Golden Treasure House meant that their power and influence was not to be underestimated. Having that kind of person as a protector and even being the lifetime benefactor of such a person could be seen as nearly priceless.
"Hmph, just 10,000,000 gold coins and a few words of promise? Whoever you are, your jokes are quite amusing. I will bid 12,000,000 gold coins and allow you access to our sect’s treasure vault where you can select three legendary-grade treasure. We can also provide you with our sect’s plaque. As long as you have it, whatever it may be, our sect will answer your call three times. Naturally, we will also see you as our sect’s benefactor. If you wish to be granted the role of an Honorary Elder, that can also be arranged." Another voice echoed from one of the private rooms.
’Being able to offer three legendary treasures on top of 12,000,000 gold coins—they have to be at least a medium-sized sect. Offering their plaque is also no small matter. That aside, it’s still not enough to compare to the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace. This is only the beginning.’
"Ha! Since you dared mock me, I was expecting some grand offer, but you don’t even dare to utter your sect’s name! What? Are you afraid that you won’t be able to protect what’s yours? If you don’t even have the confidence to protect an item, what use is there for your sect’s plaque? Ah, I guess if it’s made out of wood, it can at least be used to stoke the flames of a fire on a cold winter day." The person who made the first offer scoffed.
"If you’re so bold, why not share your name and background with everyone here?! That is, unless you plan on being a cowardly hypocrite!" The other bidder snapped back.
At the same time, inside the Duvelle family’s private room, Black Fox seemed visibly shaken as he stared at the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace.
"Burake Duvelle, you must obtain this treasure—no matter the cost." Black Fox said as the aura around them became unsettled yet ferocious.
Burake frowned and replied, "Our Duvelle family has no need for such a treasure. Besides, the family head sent me here to obtain the Ore of Dreams, not some old coffin."
Although he frowned on the outside, Burake was inwardly smiling.
"This bastard has been so arrogant. If he begs, maybe I’ll consider making a bid or two. Of course, I have no intention of having purchasing it. Holding on to suck a ticking timebomb is not something our Duvelle family can afford right now." Burake thought to himself.
The aura around Black Fox surged at Burake’s response. However, they soon calmed themselves as the aura vanished without a trace.
"If you manage to secure this treasure, the power behind me will reward you and the Duvelle family. Even uprooting and eliminating the entire Kroma family from Danaharpe City would not be too difficult." Black Fox said in a serious manner.
Burake’s eyes widened in shock. However, it was soon replaced by a look of doubt and skepticism.
"From the moment our paths crossed, my Duvelle family has been requesting that you help us get rid of the Kroma family. Your response has always been that it’s too troublesome and that we shouldn’t draw the attention of the Grand Duke. Do you expect me to believe that this treasure has given you a sudden change of heart?" Burake noted with a sharp gaze.
"You should understand more than anyone that everything in life is a give and take. If you want something, you must be willing to pay a price of equal or greater value. The circumstances have changed. Offering this treasure as a price that makes the request of your Duvelle family one of worth. Now, will you do it? Or, are you going to allow your personal feelings to get in the way of business?" Black Fox said unhurriedly.
Burake glanced over at Black Fox before he set his gaze on the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace. It was clear that he did not want to give Black Fox the satisfaction of getting what he wanted to easily. However, he had been alive long enough to know when to seize hold of an opportunity—his personal feelings aside.
"Alright, I can secure this treasure for you. However, the cost will-" Burake started; however, he was swiftly cut off by Black Fox.
"The cost matters not. Beyond taking care of the Kroma family, whatever the price, my organization will fully reimburse the Duvelle family. There is no need to hesitate." Black Fox reassured.
"I don’t suppose you think I’m naïve enough to simply take your word for it, right?" Burake said in a meaningful tone.
"The League of the Eidolon always keeps its promises. However, if you refuse, we will have no choice but to find a party who is willing to cooperate." Black Fox stated coldly.
"You would dare to betray us?!" Burake said angrily.
"Betray? You overestimate yourselves. I am simply telling you the reality of matters. Whether you choose to accept that reality or deny it is entirely up to you, Burake Duvelle." Black Fox replied.
Burake grit his teeth. If the League of the Eidolon chose to abandon them now, it would risk everything the Duvelle family had been working toward. More importantly, it could potentially threaten their standing in Danaharpe City!
"15,000,000 gold coins! The Duvelle family is also willing to officially sponsor you with no limits attached. Be it a legendary treasure, pills, weapons or even becoming a noble—my Duvelle family will make sure that you lack nothing." Burake offered.
Those in the auction house were taken aback by the sudden spike from 12,000,000 gold coins to 15,000,000 gold coins. In an instant, it had reached the price the Kroma family paid to the Golden Treasure House in compensation for the Ore of Dreams!
More importantly, that arrogant Duvelle family was actually willing to sponsor its owner with no limits! At least, within Danaharpe City, that person would become akin to royalty!
As Izroth listened to the bids, he lightly tapped his finger on the armrest of his seat.
