Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4720 Lead Somewhere By A Ghost

Chapter 4720  Lead Somewhere By A Ghost

The female wraith with a veiled hat didn't respond to Davis's question immediately.

She was silent as a ghost for a few seconds.

"Yes~" Her voice echoed, distant as though she wasn't near them.

Davis didn't ask her anymore. It seemed like he would have to ask each question separately for her to give one-word answers. He didn't attack her either since she had saved them, at least on the surface level.

He was curious if she feared him or not, like the other ghosts, but he had an inkling already.

These ghost cultivators couldn't tell how scary he was to ghosts.

'Or does this woman simply lack the Instinct Physical Soul which gives a soul their intuition?' He wondered.

It also seemed like she didn't witness him unleashing chaos energy and death energy, finding them by chance. Otherwise, she would be on high alert and not show her back to them in an unguarded manner.

"You seem confident in your prowess. What kind of disciple are you? A top disciple of the Silent Wraith Hall? The strongest in your sect?" Fairy Thunderblaze didn't hesitate to shoot a flurry of questions at her.

"Yes~" A single word answer came out of the female wraith.

"I would like to ask what it's like living as a ghost and a former glory of yourself. Mhm, but let's not poke into each other's privacy. Why are you here despite the danger? Are you not afraid of dying for the last time?"

"You'll know soon."

Fairy Thunderblaze wasn't unamused. She continued to ask more questions.

"I'm Thunderblaze. What's your title?"

"Thunderwraith."

"Control over lightning despite being a ghost? That's terrific." Fairy Thunderblaze raised her brows before she nodded, "We have a similar title, so I'll consider sparing you later when it's time for you to go. Now, tell me about the three spiritual souls instead."

Lady Thunderwraith stopped for the first time and turned to look at Fairy Thunderblaze.

"Why should I?"

A bloody giant slithered past them. The ghost aura fluctuated as though she was going to take her veil back from Fairy Thunderblaze, assuring mutual destruction.

"You're confident. I like it." Fairy Thunderblaze simply smiled and didn't say anything more.

Lady Thunderwraith turned around and continued to lead the way.

The bloody giants had admittedly lost their targets, but they were still roaming around on high alert as though believing the guests hadn't left yet. Their actions told the three of them that they were dealing with a truly intelligent Realm Calamity.

"Having lived for millions of years, I believe it has this entire region under its control." Lady Thunderwraith suddenly said and whispered more than a few words.

"Hence, going against it wouldn't do any good. Like the flow of the river, we mustn't go against it but take advantage of its blind spot to take our path. Never make a move while in this state, and they won't realize that there are foreign ghosts here."

"So we're the invisible bait?" Davis asked.

"Not exactly. I have another matter for you two to jump in."

"What is that?"

"You'll know soon."

Saying so, she continued on, and the two of them could only follow.

Finally, they came to a lake. However, not only was the blood aura thicker around it, but the ghostly yin energy in the lake was extremely high. The surface of the water was gray, as though it didn't have any vitality to it at all.

"There's a ghost-attribute Realm Calamity, Light Spectral Facedevil inside. My fellow ghost disciples all died when trying to gather the Peak-Level Exalt Grade resource from this lake. It devours souls and ghosts alike, so I am at a disadvantage against it. I want the two of you to attract it while I go fetch the resource."

She lowered her hand after pointing at it and turned to look at them.

"In return, I'll help you if you two manage to survive, get the resource you came here for, even if it is in the inner region."

"You are saying that the blood carnage Calamity won't discover us while we disguise ourselves as ghosts? I think you're mistaken. This creature is highly intelligent."

Davis looked around, his gaze momentarily filled with innumerable karmic threads that gather in groups, "If it really sees us using its main body rather than its bloody clones, it will undoubtedly pick us apart."

As far as Davis could tell, this Realm Calamity was like the Unfettered Gargantuan Ice Fiend, able to create mini clones of itself and function like a hive mind as well as create Elemental Orbs of its attribute. But unlike the Ice Fiends that contained a little bit of individuality within their singular hunting instincts, these bloody clones all seemed intent on preying on their target, assimilating them into their own without any individuality to their selves whatsoever.

He could safely say that they were in auto mode to hunt prey with flesh and nurture the Blood Essence Orbs, which could be plenty and varying in grades. He had barely entered the inner region and already chanced upon an Exalt Grade Blood Essence Orb. He could only imagine how much it has inside further.

"It should be fine as long as we don't meet it." Lady Thunderwraith said after a pause.

Her voice was still cold and detached, yet now there was finally some hesitance as though she herself knew she was exaggerating. If the clones knew where they were, the main body would also know. It was just a matter of whether it was intent on or lazy to appear in front of them in order to devour them.

"So, no plan yet, you're willing to take the risk." Davis's lips curled in amusement, "Do ghosts have a liking for committing suicide?"

Lady Thunderwraith glared at him with her cold and sharp eyes that were hidden behind the veil. She didn't say anything but waited for his decision.

Davis contemplated for a few moments.

He wasn't familiar with a Light Spectral Facedevil that was capable of mimicking any face and aura of the Nether Devil Race. However, Niera and the others had faced it before. That was how they managed to save the Empyrean Solar Phoenix Spirit, Reignisia. She was a wisp back then when she was trapped.

After they managed to court Reignisia's fondness together, she agreed to become Niera's spirit companion.

Nevertheless, he learned that Light Spectral Facedevil was a ghost-attribute Realm Calamity that liked to play tricks, had a cunning nature, and liked to horrify its prey before devouring them. Since it was a ghost-attribute lifeform, it also feasted on other ghost-attribute creatures.

It made sense that Lady Thunderwraith dared not face it in a frontal battle.

However, what was its prowess?

If it had been here for so long, how much had it increased its prowess? The Calamities that had lived longer usually tended to have extraordinary prowess. In that case, even Davis couldn't ensure that he would be able to defeat it.

However, he didn't need to defeat it. He was only to distract it.

Regardless, he couldn't see the reason why he needed to help Lady Thunderwraith.

"Tell us about the three spiritual souls as a form of sincerity, and I'll help you," Davis suggested.

"Never mind then. The karmic burden from sharing that kind of information is not something a ghost like me could endure in my next tribulation." Lady Thunderwraith shook her head.

"Now leave before I take off the layer of ghostly yin aura." She coldly added.

"Don't be so hasty to leave us. What are we going to do if you abandon us?" Fairy Thunderblaze giggled, "It's just a mere calamity for ghosts. Let us, the living, take care of it."

She said as she turned to glance at Davis.

'Why me?' Davis had the urge to reject just because he was goaded into it.

However, he knew it was better to have Lady Thunderwraith escort them to the inner zones just so that they could elude the blood carnage Calamity's senses that were attuned to the living for a long time. It was a loophole that needed to be taken advantage of. After all, it spent so many years with ghosts that it would've learned to ignore them at a cellular level.

The fact that this ghost-attributed Realm Calamity could also exist here and establish a minor territory for itself spoke soundly about the blood carnage Calamity's uncaring attitude towards ghosts as long as they don't invade its true territory, which was the core region.

Davis walked towards the lake without saying a word.

Lady Thunderwraith's gaze flickered.

She knew they were strong enough to survive the initial onslaught of these bloody giants, but how strong?
