Chapter 4838 Core Refinement
Davis sat on the floor, reveling in his newfound strength for a few seconds. After consolidating his cultivation a bit, he stood up and walked to Illumina. He momentarily scanned her body for critical injuries with his eyes.
At the same time, he couldn't help but admire her magical beast form
From her head, it was obvious she was a rabbit since she had a pair of long black-white rabbit ears. Her white hair, adorned with black strands, cascaded freely down her shoulders.
Her face was exquisitely sculpted, stern yet carrying a delicate, chilling allure. Her skin was pale and flawless, reminiscent of a fantastical vampire. Her eyes were the most frightening yet also enchanting- golden pupils illustrated over black sclera. Her eyelashes were long and dark.
When she gazed at him in question, her aloof eyes softened.
Davis appeared beside her and sat, extending his hands to place his palms over the stump of her shoulder. It was a gruesome injury, one filled with karma and destructive wind force.
He knew he wouldn't be able to heal it fully, but he wanted to provide relief. At the very least, he would be able to increase her regeneration speed and provide comfort.
Life energy poured out from his palms.
It flowed gently, like warm spring water threading through cracked earth, carrying with it an unmistakable vitality that belonged solely to him. The moment it touched the torn flesh and shattered meridians, the violent remnants of karma and destructive wind force reacted, hissing faintly as if resisting an invader. The energies gnawed at his life force, eroding it in thin strands, but Davis did not withdraw.
He frowned slightly, focus sharpening.
Fine control replaced brute output. He slowed the circulation, guiding the life energy around the malignant forces instead of clashing with them head-on, wrapping the wound in layers of nurturing essence that soothed rather than provoked. Flesh that had been ragged and charred began to pulse faintly. New cells budded at the edges, not closing the wound, but stabilizing it.
As a result, Illumina's natural regeneration rate did wonders, allowing her arm to grow back slowly.
Illumina stiffened in shock.
Even though she knew her master would be powerful in the Empyrean Stage, it was insane that his life energy's prowess right now was comparable to a High Stage Exalt!
She turned to look at him and saw a vague mark of a nine-petal lotus lighting up on his head, the aura of reincarnation surrounding him and making him appear mystical and peerless, as though he was an immortal among immortals.
Noticing her shock, Davis briefly explained.
"I'm using the black-white stone to aid me in healing you, so it's not my original prowess."
They both knew the pain from the karmic attack left behind would remain, haunting Illumina.
"If master didn't use the black-white stone, then…?"
Illumina completely forgot about her injury, her gaze curious.
"Hmm, it's difficult to say." Davis's lips curled, "My soul is reincarnation attributed, so my base prowess is dependent upon that, but my highest achievement currently is having comprehended Level Three Obscure Intent of Enigmatic Heart Laws, which is an Utmost Law, putting it above my comprehension of Reincarnation Laws. Hence, if I were to use my Heart Intent, my soul would react with much more prowess."
'I'll have to practice and see what it's like. But yes, at the minimum, my prowess is twenty-two levels higher, making me comparable to a Level Four Exalt easily."
"…" Illumina nearly sucked in a deep breath of cold air.
Comparable to a Level Four Exalt as a Level One Empyrean? That was really… insane.
With the prowess of his reincarnation energy and the black-white stone in hand, she guessed her master wouldn't have any trouble facing a Level Nine Exalt. Judging by how he worded his usage of heart intent, she judged he could even exceed High-Level Exalts!
"Master is a being capable of becoming a true expert even among divinities. I am honored to serve you in this lifetime."
Illumina's cheeks blushed with pride.
She couldn't believe she protected such a person at his initial stages.
"Yes," Davis's sapphire eyes gleamed, "I'm honored to have you as one of my beloved wives."
"…" Illumina's breathing staggered.
She didn't know what to say to that sudden confession, making her feel some heat over her cheeks more than her severed arm.
"Please do not joke about this matter…" She said, looking away.
"I'm serious, though." Davis chuckled.
"Ah~"
Illumina reacted as though her arm was aching, making Davis speechless. She never displayed pain in her face, and now she's doing it. It was clear to him she was shy and somehow couldn't accept this readily.
Davis didn't pursue it further, letting her digest her newfound position.
Whether she accepted it or not, it didn't matter, as he wanted to use all kinds of methods to make her accept. He did not have the idea of letting Illumina go. His mind had cemented the idea that she was already his, and no one could take her from him.
He changed the topic, "In due time, the black-white stone will also grow more powerful. It had just entered the Exalt Grade, after all. I think it won't be far enough since my soul is far more powerful than my base prowess can define."
"Mhm… isn't it time to take out the others?" Illumina asked, her golden eyes darting.
Even though she had a frightening appearance that would surely scare his children, she couldn't look anymore cute to Davis.
"You're right." Davis said, still staring at her, "But whether or not we're safe, I think it is better if we're alone for some time."
Illumina felt his searing gaze, making her avoid his gaze. Her heart pounded as it screamed for her to flee.
"After all, our hunters can instantly kill me, much less them."
"T-That's right. I was a fool not think about that."
Illumina's breathing gradually slowed. She closed her eyes, continuing to recuperate while Davis continued to heal her.
His soul force was draining quick but he didn't spare any effort to heal the woman who would give her life to protect him. His own comprehension of Life Laws was nearly comparable to the black-white stone, so the quality and the complexities within the life energy alone ceaselessly cured the malignant tumor that was the karmic and destructive-wind energy in her wound.
The atmosphere got really quiet.
Illumina opened her eyes and saw that her arm had regrown by half, reaching the elbow and a bit toward the forearm.
She guessed it wouldn't be long before her arm had fully regrown.
However, her gaze met Davis's, causing her to quickly look away.
Davis smiled lightly, "I'm curious. What were you all doing in the Nether Dimension? How did you become so powerful enough to hold your own against the Venerable Knights who are Absolute Primarchs?"
Illumina fell silent for a moment.
The faint pulse of life energy against her wound was steady and warm, grounding her thoughts. The memories she was about to recount were not pleasant ones. It wasn't easy for her to reach this level without working hard for it.
"With the help of others, I hunted and ate a natural-born Spectral Gloomveil Rabbit. It was required for the process of Core Refinement in order for me to become a True Exalt Beast. As a result, we got chased in the Shadow Dimension, barely escaping before we made it out to the Nether Dimension and escaped."
Davis frowned, "So you needed the core essence of another Spectral Gloomveil Rabbit to refine your own core?"
"Indeed." Illumina said gloomily, "This is required because I wasn't naturally born a Spectral Gloomveil Rabbit. I evolved unlike those Spectral Gloomveil Rabbits, so my Beast Core is impure in the sense that it is a mix of multiple bloodlines. For a magical beast, bloodline is truly important. One has to refine the core and make it possess a true origin. This is why we're also called Grand Ancestral Rank Magical Beasts. Because we refine and record our bloodline that contains Laws and many aspects, it is passed down the line to the lesser beasts."
"Amazing…"
Davis looked taken aback before he nodded, "So Nadia and Everlight also need to undergo Core Refinement if they want to be True Exalts despite being Emperor-Tier or Mythical Tier."
Then he suddenly looked dumbfounded, 'Where would I go find another Grand Ancestral Beast Death-Attributed Wolf? That's not happening when even the Great Saint Magical Beast Death-Attributed Wolf - Deathhowl Revenant Wolf is extremely rare to find. For Everlight, should I go hunt Celestial Transcendent's wife?'
Davis blinked, knowing that's not happening.
He couldn't help but ask, wanting to press into the matter in great detail, "Is there no other method? Is Core Refinement the only way for magical beasts that have evolved from a lesser rank?"
Illumina thought for a bit, her expression hesitant and her brows squinting before answering.
