Chapter 4550: Renting
The sun had risen when I woke up.
Once again, the sleep wasn’t smooth; it was filled with longing dreams and nightmares.
The place had really messed up my mental state. It had taken me brink. If I were to continue my journey, it would make my condition worse.
I have to recover, and this is as good a place as any.
It made me feel relieved to know that yesterday wasn’t an impulsive decision. I need it to recover and get control over myself again.
I stayed in bed for a few minutes before finally getting up, which was a struggle in itself.
I have become dispirited. Since I came out of that place, I did not have much enthusiasm for anything. I didn’t even enter my core even once.
It is a record because I usually enter my core at least once, but here I did not.
So, after I freshened up, I walked down and sat in my usual place by the window. Only one person in there and looking at
A few seconds later, the young girl came out of the kitchen and placed the breakfast in front of the woman, before appearing beside me.
"Good morning, patron," said the young girl as she appeared beside me. "Good morning," I replied.
"Would you be having breakfast?" she asked cheerfully. She looked extra cheerful today. "Yes," I replied. She smiled and walked toward the kitchen.
A few minutes later, she returned. Holding my breakfast.
"Thank you," I thanked, to which she smiled, before her expression turned a little serious. "My mother would like to talk to you about the rooms you have inquired about last night," she said.
It was more like, she had told me. "Ok," I replied, and she smiled brightly before walking away, while I focused on the breakfast.
It’s simple, but it was cooked wonderfully, and I finished it all.
I put my spoon down before walking toward the counter. The mother of the young girl has arrived.
She is a thin woman from the yortas race, with a black furred face that seemed bigger for her body. It’s not just her, but the whole race is like that.
She has big blue eyes and long ears; she doesn’t have a scalp like humans.
Her daughter looked like her, but with human features, which makes her look beautiful in human aesthetic. Her mother was considered beautiful in her race.
Though not from human eyes. To most humans, and conventional races look ugly and comical.
Here on this continent, due to their population being less than 1%, they face quite a bit of discrimination as well. This is why this woman usually remained inside, while letting her daughter handle things on the outside.
"My daughter told me, you want to rent the two rooms at the back of the inn for the clinic?" she asked with a nasally voice, which is a feature of her race.
Though the woman is very serious right now. "Yes," I replied.
"Why here? Why not somewhere else?" she asked. "I had no preference other than the general area, and your daughter said you had rooms available," I replied.
I didn’t much care where it is, I need rooms. There are hundreds of them available in the city.
"Are you really a healer?" she asked finally. I smiled and put a badge in front of her.
It belongs to the healers’ guild in Balus City; this big city, this city falls under. Getting it without moving is not a big thing for me; I even manipulated their records.
"The rest will be fifty last crystal a month," she said finally. I smiled and put the crystals in front of her.
"Your name?" she asked. "Ross," I replied.
"We are honoured that you will be opening your clinic in our property, Healer Ross," she said. "The honor is all mine, Miss?"
"Kertis," she supplied.
"Mira, here will show you the rooms," she said, and a few seconds later, we walked out of the inn and appeared in the back.
Click!
The girl opened the door, and I could feel the dust coming out. "We didn’t have to clean it," she said, with her cheeks red. "It’s fine, just bring me cleaning supplies," I replied, looking at the space.
Its small, but it took.
One would be a reception and waiting space, while the other would be a room where I will work.
"Here," she said, and brought me stuff.
"You don’t have to help," I said, seeing her picking up the rag. "I want to," she replied. I didn’t say anything further and moved into the room.
I am posing myself as Primary-I; they have barely any power. They cannot just wave their hand and have everything become spotlessly clean.
"Have these rooms been unused for long?" I asked the girl as I removed the stuff that had been placed in here.
It’s just the dust and cobwebs, but also the quality of the wood, that been degraded. If there had been a formation, it wouldn’t have been the case.
I could tell how long it had been, but I was having a conversation with the girl.
"Since my father died," she replied softly in a barely audible voice. "Seven and a half years," she added little loudly.
I didn’t say anything further and removed the cobwebs and the dust, before starting to wash it down with soap and water and wiping it dry.
I didn’t have to do it all. I could clean it instantly, manipulate the girl’s memories with us cleaning it together.
I didn’t.
I didn’t want to do this for the sake of it. No, I am doing it because I want to and I want to do it from scratch. If it takes some time, I am okay with it.
I will be here for a while. I could spend a few days making all the arrangements.
"Done," she said as she wiped the sweat from her brow. "Thank you," I thanked. She didn’t have to help, but she did it. "It’s my pleasure, healer Ross," she replied.
