While the assault with hundreds of sourcebox arrays and overlapping danger fields had initially looked terrifying and incomprehensible, once Lu Yin touched it, he had realized that the final result was quite weak. What was the best way to put it? As far as Lu Yin was concerned, the overlapping danger fields had resulted in something that was roughly as powerful as what he had encountered in the past. While there had been more than a dozen Boundless Advanced sourceboxes’ danger fields, those sourceboxes had been at the very bottom of that level.

Baisha Tiancheng had used practically useless sourcebox danger fields to create what had appeared to be a desperate final stance for his family. This was in line with how the patriarch had first lured Lu Yin to the Cheng family’s estate. Lu Yin could not understand what the man was doing at all.

Lu Yin was growing increasingly curious about Baisha Tiancheng’s goals.

Baisha Tiancheng showed a bitter smile. Fun? How could anyone call this fun?

The man’s attempt had been genuine. He had used up half of the Cheng family’s reserve that had been painstakingly accumulated throughout multiple eras, all to create a situation where the Cheng family was forced into an inescapable corner. Baisha Tiancheng had never considered that Lu Yin might overcome their efforts so easily.

The patriarch’s first priority was still to kill Lu Yin.

The overlapping danger fields of hundreds of sourceboxes was enough to make even a peak Dukkhan suffer miserably if they directly took the force. Even if Lu Yin was capable of blocking such an attack, it should have been enough to seriously injure him. The Cheng family’s scheme had already reached the point where they could invoke the three clans’ covenant, and with that leverage, they would be perfectly justified in killing the man.

He gulped and then spoke in a hoarse voice. “Mr. Lu, I am most impressed. My Cheng family just unleashed all of the danger fields that we have painstakingly carved throughout the ages, and yet you see it as nothing more than a bit of ‘fun.’ Your strength is something that has been rarely seen throughout history. Surely, you must have already touched upon the Immortal realm?”

His words resonated with everyone who heard them. Judging by everything that Lu Yin had done, the only reasonable explanation was that he was an invincible Immortal. He had not once been defeated since arriving in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

Lu Yin glanced at his hand. “Stop saying useless things. You and I both know that the only reason why I’ve stayed here is because I want to see what your Cheng family can really do to me. Also...”

His expression suddenly turned cold. “I don’t like leaving loose ends.”

Baisha Tiancheng closed his eyes and let out a long breath before suddenly snapping them back open. His booming voice then rang throughout Skyveil City. “Baisha Tiancheng, on behalf of the Cheng family, invokes the three-clan covenant! Yu family, Jue family, will you honor the covenant?”

Lu Yin frowned. The three-clan covenant?

Almost everyone within Skyveil City felt confused. None of them had ever heard of any three-clan covenant.

On the other hand, both Yu Jing and Jue Ling felt their hearts sink. So, it’s come to this after all...

Still, neither of the two could understand how things had escalated so drastically.

Cheng Gong had clearly been expelled from the family, why had Lu Yin still come after the Cheng family?

On top of that, why had the Cheng family chosen to go down a path of mutual destruction? They were not fools, and the Cheng family had obviously prepared for a long time to launch that attack just now. Still, unless they admitted it themselves, no one would be able to prove anything.

Yu Jing and Jue Ling had tried to prevent Lu Yin from entering the Cheng family’s estate because they did not want Baisha Tiancheng to invoke the three-clan covenant and force them to become Lu Yin’s enemies. Unfortunately, their efforts had failed.

At this point, both the cause and the final outcome of the battle had become unknowns.

Just as Jue Ling was about to follow him, Jue Qing’s voice reached the matriarch’s ears. “Mother, don’t get involved.”

Jue Ling helplessly replied, “We cannot break the three-clan covenant.”

“Even if our Jue family will be destroyed?”

Jue Ling froze. “What is this nonsense?”

Jue Qing calmly replied, “I understand Lu Yin far, far better than you. If the Jue family becomes his enemy, we will not meet any better an end than the Cheng family. Most likely, we’ll follow in the Autumnspring Slip’s footsteps and be completely wiped out.”

Jue Ling glanced back at the Jue family’s home where Jue Qing was standing gracefully in the distance. “Girl, exactly what do you know?”

Jue Qing met her mother’s stare. “Lu Yin stepped out from the Sea of Karma and has a connection to all Seven Fairies through Master. What happened at the Four Commands Sword Sect, the Autumnspring Slip, Everchange Valley, the Sixth Night Pillar, and even the Sorrow's Rift were all done before he came to the West Domain. No one has been able to make out the limits of his power. And...”

At this point, the young woman fell silent for a moment, causing Jue Ling to frown. “Speak up! Unless there’s something monumental you’re not saying, we cannot break the three-clan covenant!”

Jue Qing said, “He... may have comprehended karma.”

Jue Ling’s pupils shrank sharply. “What did you just say?”

Jue Qing remained silent.

Jue Ling felt as if someone had just taken a hammer to her mind. She struggled to accept what she had just heard.

Stepped out of the Sea of Karma, broke through to the Origin Realm while standing above the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, yet not one of the Immortal Greater Sancti interfered. Various details converged in the woman’s mind, leaving her rooted in place and unable to even move.

Yu Jing urged her, “Jue Ling, why are you still not coming? The three-clan covenant cannot be broken! I also don’t want to become this man’s enemy, but what choice do we have?”

Jue Ling looked back at the Cheng family’s estate and saw Lu Yin standing there with his back to the gate. At this moment, he almost seemed like a second Greater Sancte Green Lotus.

Yu Jing suddenly looked back at Lu Yin.

Lu Yin was still calmly standing in place. When he noticed Yu Jing’s attention, Lu Yin met the patriarch’s stare with a small smile. The young man looked completely at ease.

Seeing Lu Yin’s attitude caused Yu Jing’s heart to drop. Did this man not care about Skyveil City at all? Was it possible that Jue Ling knew something?

Lu Yin glanced at Yu Jing and then back at Baisha Tiancheng. So that’s it. This is the Cheng family’s plan.

The Cheng family had deliberately released false information which had led Lu Yin to believe that Cheng Gong was hiding within his family’s estate in order to lure Lu Yin to Skyveil City. When that deception was exposed, the family had attacked Lu Yin with their full force, while also creating the impression that he had forced them into a desperate situation. Even the danger field created from hundreds of sourcebox arrays had been a part of the Cheng family’s facade, all so that they could invoke the three-clan covenant.

They wanted to join hands with the Yu and Jue families to kill Lu Yin.

That was the Cheng family’s goal.

But why? Was it really worth going to such lengths just for Cheng Gong alone?

Any outsider could see that Lu Yin would not target the entire Cheng family just because of his grudge with Cheng Gong. If he did, how could the Tianyuan Megaverse ever hope to integrate with the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? A strong and rational Tianyuan could be accepted, but never a lawless and reckless one.

Lu Yin’s current goal was to lead the Tianyuan Megaverse to join with the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. But to do so, no matter how strong Lu Yin might be, unless he surpassed the three Immortal Greater Sancti, he had to demonstrate the correct attitude. It was fine for him to take revenge when someone had wronged him, but he could never target innocents. He simply did not have the right to do so.

So long as the Cheng family had genuinely expelled Cheng Gong from the family, they would not have invited disaster upon themselves.

Despite that, the Cheng family had deliberately lured him to their home, even at the risk of total destruction. Why? Were they really that confident in the strength of Skyveil City?

Jue Ling arrived in the estate.

Baisha Tiancheng’s expression twisted with ferocity. Invoking the three-clan covenant meant that they had taken the final step. No matter the outcome, they all needed to do their best to kill this man.

“Skyveil City, attack!” Baisha Tiancheng roared, as if speaking on behalf of the entirety of Skyveil City.

Yu Jing did not move.

Neither did Jue Ling.

Some of the hundreds of thousands of the Cheng family’s cultivators were ready to strike, but they immediately felt that something was wrong, and they all froze. Where were the experts from the Yu and Jue families?

A number of people had appeared outside of the Cheng family’s territory, radiating powerful bloodlust while glaring at Lu Yin.

Far away, some cultivators who were adept at ambushes remained ready to attack at any moment. Poisonous miasma coiled underground like dragons that twisted and writhed around. At the back of the Cheng family’s territory, countless odd creatures were breathing heavily. They were either otherborn from the Skyveil Megaverse or descendants of bloodlines that had been subdued by the Cheng family.

The Cheng family had readied almost everything that they had in order to kill Lu Yin. They had never faced this desperate a situation before.

However, all of their preparations were dependent on one condition: they could only act if Lu Yin was first forced into a desperate situation or became gravely injured. Without either of those conditions, it would be impossible to land a fatal blow.

If the Yu and Jue families did not attack, Baisha Tiancheng would not be able to act as though he represented Skyveil City.

The patriarch glared at Jue Ling. “Why aren’t you attacking? Where are the people of your Yu and Jue families? Where is the Script Arrays? Where is Linear Insight?”

Lu Yin also looked at Jue Ling, quite curious. Is it possible that Linear Insight... can be merged into sourcebox arrays?

Jue Ling took a deep breath while looking at Lu Yin. “The three-clan covenant is a defensive pact, not an offensive one. This matter needs to be clarified first. Mr. Lu, the Cheng family has already expelled Cheng Gong, so why did you still attack the Cheng family?”

Baisha Tiancheng’s eyes narrowed. “Jue Ling, my Cheng family is in a desperate situation and we have invoked the three-clan covenant. You must abide by it! Or could it be that your Jue family is going to break the covenant?”

Jue Ling ignored the man and continued to focus on Lu Yin.

In turn, he turned to look at Yu Jing.

The woman added, “I don’t believe that Mr. Lu is someone who kills indiscriminately, nor that he would implicate the innocent.”

Baisha Tiancheng erupted in a rage. “Yu family, you-”

Lu Yin smiled and then started to laugh. The sound echoed across Skyveil City. It was instantly the most grating sound that Baisha Tiancheng had ever heard.

“Now, this is interesting! Very intriguing. My trip to Skyveil City is proving well worthwhile.”

He looked at Baisha Tiancheng. “The Cheng family deliberately released information that Cheng Gong has been hiding in their home in order to lure me here. You intended to use the three-clan covenant to kill me. Baisha Tiancheng, it wasn’t a bad scheme, but you ended up underestimating your two allies. Neither of them are fools. In fact, they’re much smarter than you.”

Baisha Tiancheng’s heart dropped further with each word that was spoken. He ground his teeth as he glared at Lu Yin, completely unwilling to accept the situation.

Jue Ling frowned and turned to stare at Baisha Tiancheng. “Baisha Tiancheng, is this true or not?”
