Chapter 4161: Instinct

Chapter 4161: Instinct

This was not how things were supposed to go.

The High Seraph’s pupils shrank to pinpricks as he tried to pull his hand back, only to find that it was impossible to do so.

His attack had only been a feint. The real battle should have started afterwards. He possessed Everlasting Will, the Everstone sequence base, and an innate gift of connecting two points in a single line. The High Seraph had already planned out how he would counter Lu Yin in their rematch and dismantle every one of the younger man’s moves.

The High Seraph had never imagined that he would lose at the very first move.

No, this was not a mere miscalculation. It was the complete and utter collapse of all that the High Seraph had known. He could not even take back an attack that he had launched.

How could the gap between them be so vast?

Lu Yin spoke calmly: “From the moment I first started cultivating, almost no one within the same realm could challenge me. I’ve always been the one to fight above my realm. When I fought you last, I was only a Progenitor, but now...” He smiled. “I’m a Dukkhan.”

The High Seraph’s expression changed dramatically. Du- Dukkhan?

Impossible!

Lu Yin raised a hand to lift the High Seraph’s arm before flinging him in the direction of Greater Sancte Green Lotus. An unseen crushing force pinned the High Seraph in front of the other man. Instantly, an overwhelming pressure forced him to the ground.

The High Seraph was horrified. Pressed to the ground, his eyes became bloodshot as he stared up in disbelief. This aura... this is an Immortal! Lu Yin has become an Immortal!

“As a Lesser Sancte, have you never seen Greater Sancte Green Lotus?” Lu Yin’s voice drifted over, striking the High Seraph like a clap of thunder.

Greater Sancte Green Lotus?

Is this man Greater Sancte Green Lotus? The oldest and most powerful Greater Sancte of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? The strongest Immortal of the entire human civilization?

Greater Sancte Green Lotus said, “Forget this man, as not even Xing Fan and the others were ever able to meet me easily.

“So, you are Mo Shang?”

The High Seraph slowly lifted his head to look up at the Immortal. “You are... Greater Sancte Green Lotus?”

“I have paid attention to you,” Green Lotus calmly stated, “You have courage and are also quite capable. You are not just the High Seraph, as you are also the only one with the courage to cooperate with Qing Cao to scheme against the Greater Sancti and oppose my Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

“You even used your killing of Ru Shi to intimidate the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, preventing our cultivators from acting however they wished in your Spirit Nidus. For the Spirit Nidus, you have done more than anyone else.”

The High Seraph bowed his head. He had no intention of denying anything. It would be pointless to try to do so before Greater Sancte Green Lotus.

“Each megaverse has its own culture. Given the Spirit Nidus’s circumstances of being suppressed by the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, all of your actions are quite understandable. However, understanding is not the same as acquittal. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. The Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s punishment is to strip you of the title of Lesser Sancte. Also, we will not interfere in the grudges between you and Mr. Lu.”

The High Seraph trembled. Mr. Lu?

That was an indication of respect. Just what had Lu Yin done to earn the respect of Greater Sancte Green Lotus?

The man glanced back at Lu Yin, only to suddenly realize that Lu Yin showed no attitude of deference before the Greater Sancte. Rather, Lu Yin was standing calmly in place, as though he was the Immortal’s equal.

After considering just how effortlessly Lu Yin had subdued him moments earlier...

Despite his disbelief, the High Seraph still had to ask, “Have you... broken through to the Immortal realm?”

Lu Yin chuckled. “Didn’t I just tell you? I’m a Dukkhan.”

The High Seraph shook his head. That was simply impossible. No Dukkhan could qualify to receive Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s respect.

Lu Yin released his Champions' Stage Purgatory and threw the High Seraph inside to strengthen his karma. At the same time, he started examining the man’s past with karma.

The High Seraph was the one who had intimidated Yuan Qi into fleeing to the Tianyuan. Everyone had thought that Qing Cao was behind that matter, but Lu Yin suddenly wondered, what if that man was not the responsible party?

There was no doubt that Qing Cao had plotted against Mi Jin and that he had taken Yong Heng to the Spirit Nidus to demand Yuan Qi’s assistance. The High Seraph had cooperated perfectly, going so far as to deceive Mi Jin. However, was it possible that the High Seraph had not received orders from Qing Cao, but rather directly from Obscura’s hidden Immortal?

If that were the case, then while the High Seraph and Qing Cao had fully cooperated with each other, they were hiding different secrets. It was possible that some information could only be learned through the High Seraph.

Of course, this was nothing more than pure speculation on Lu Yin’s part. The chances of him being correct were quite low. If the mysterious expert from Obscura had Qing Cao at their disposal, that also meant that they had indirect control of the High Seraph. Such extra steps would have been unnecessary.

Lu Yin merely wanted to check the possibility.

As expected, he could not even find a hint of the hidden Immortal in the High Seraph’s past.

Not finding anything did not prove that it had not happened. Even so, the High Seraph had little real value. Compared to the current Lu Yin, Mo Shang was simply insignificant.

Lu Yin sealed the High Seraph away before looking back at the distant silhouette of the Origin Progenitor inside the palace. He bowed low. “Senior, please continue your cultivation. I hope that, when you succeed and emerge, our human civilization will have already become one of the Aevum Inch’s fishing civilizations, one of the rare powerful civilizations in existence.”

Greater Sancte Green Lotus also gazed at the palace, his eyes betraying complicated emotions.

The mind that belonged to the Willbound Spire sought beauty and pureness, but Green Lotus had failed to achieve that. The same was true of everyone else in their human civilization. The only possibility that could happen was if humanity one day managed to become a fishing civilization and no longer feared other existences in the Aevum Inch.

Some outcomes only arise from causes; without the cause, the effect can never manifest.

Lu Yin soon took Greater Sancte Green Lotus away and teleported to the Arcanum Domain. They passed through the gate there to arrive in an unfamiliar region of the Aevum Inch. They then started moving towards the Active Megaverse.

The Greater Sancte casually tossed out a number of pathfinding stones, each one imprinted with Lu Yin’s consciousness. Wherever they flew, he would be able to see.

Lu Yin was not yet able to teleport an extreme distance on his own. The speed at which an Immortal like Green Lotus could move actually exceeded the distance that Lu Yin could see. However, by leaving a string of pathfinding stones behind, Lu Yin became able to monitor a vast region at any given time, with the main benefit of being able to teleport to wherever was needed. This was the true way to use his new innate gift.

Pathfinding stones needed to be placed around the Gate of Laws.

“It seems that Whither Peak is no longer needed,” Green Lotus commented while scattering another handful of pathfinding stones around.

Lu Yin replied, “No matter how fast teleportation may be, we can’t keep an eye on all the human megaverses at all times. Whither Peak still has its purpose. It’s just that its purpose no longer requires sending people to their deaths.”

The Greater Sancte sighed. “Mi Jin created the rules of Whither Peak because he did not want the fear of the Aevum Inch to spread throughout our entire civilization. There are certain burdens that should only be borne by us. Those who climbed Whither Peak will receive their due rewards. It is a fair exchange.

“Now that there have been several wars with foreign civilizations, the Aevum Inch is no longer an unknown mystery to our people. Regardless of whether one yearns for or fears it, it nonetheless must be faced.”

The various wars had ripped away the veil concealing the Aevum Inch. Everyone felt uneasy, but the more that this was true, the stronger humanity needed to become.

...

Once they arrived at the Active Megaverse, Lu Yin and Greater Sancte Green Lotus stood in outer space, peering ahead.

As soon as Green Lotus entered, the entire megaverse seemed to start boiling. Endless vitality flooded into the man’s body, but unlike Lu Yin and Master Ku Deng, Green Lotus showed no reaction. He calmly approached the seabed and found the object that lay there.

Lu Yin had already known that there was a gap between the other human Immortals and Green Lotus, but until this moment, he had failed to understand just how vast that gap truly was.

Each reveal of the man’s strength refreshed Lu Yin’s understanding of Greater Sancte Green Lotus.

Every demonstration showed what it meant to be the oldest and strongest human Immortal.

Before long, Greater Sanctis Green Lotus appeared beside him. “Just as I suspected. By aligning itself with the universe’s active laws, it ultimately buried itself.

“What you are facing is not a dead Immortal lifeform, but a law that resonates with the cosmos, one that could erupt at any moment.

“Only such a law could transform an entire megaverse. It has filled the winds, the ground, the mountains, and the rivers with vitality to create a wondrous place.”

He then turned to Lu Yin. “That object is well-suited as your personal weapon. There is no burden to carry. The Immortal themselves is long dead, and that object is not even the remains of their body. It is merely the physical manifestation of their cosmic law.”

Lu Yin smiled bitterly. “I would not feel any burden. If it can serve as a weapon, then even a corpse would be acceptable. Still, I simply am unable to take it.”

Green Lotus laughed. “There’s no rush. When you gain the strength to wield it, it will give you a pleasant surprise. By that time, you might stand as one of the three most powerful humans.”

Lu Yin’s eyes bulged. Top three?

At the moment, the three most powerful experts were Green Lotus, Awe Gate, and Blood Tower. Was Green Lotus saying that, by mastering this weapon, Lu Yin might surpass Greater Sancte Blood Tower?

“Let’s go. It’s time to find a true place of refuge for humanity. I also wish to see what civilizations are near us, as well as which civilization Obscura believes can destroy humanity,” Greater Sancte Green Lotus said.

With that, the two men vanished.

Green Lotus had been throwing pathfinding stones out the moment that they had passed through the Gate of Laws. Those stones allowed Lu Yin to see many regions of the Aevum Inch, places that would take years to reach even with Green Lotus’s speed. Fortunately, they had become instantly accessible.

A few days later, they found a civilization that ruled over an entire megaverse. It was not a powerful civilization, given that their strongest lifeform was only equal to a Progenitor in power. The megaverse was even weaker than the Tianyuan. Days later, they found another. There were many civilizations near the Gate of Laws’ connection point, and a single handful of pathfinding stones let Lu Yin find two in a very short amount of time.

If he were a scavenger selling civilizations’ coordinates, he would already be rich.

However, if scavengers could teleport, then they would never even need to sell the coordinates of other megaverses in the first place.

“I keep wondering. Since Luo Chan can teleport far beyond my range and doesn’t need to see its destination, how many civilizations has the Nest civilization encountered? Could they really have destroyed all of them?” Lu Yin wondered as he observed a civilization up ahead with Green Lotus.

The Greater Sancte shook his head. “If Luo Chan teleports continuously, it could certainly encounter a great many civilizations, but not this fast.

“Its ability to teleport without seeing its destination is a strength but also a weakness. Asking that bug to find the two civilizations that we just found would be nearly impossible, as it would be much like searching for a needle in the ocean. This is precisely because it cannot observe its destination.

“You are different. The number of pathfinding stones that you send out will determine just how many eyes you have. You can survey an area precisely, and even if your teleportation ability is limited by distance, within short ranges, you are far more efficient than Luo Chan.

“As for how many civilizations Luo Chan has seen, you failed to consider one thing: instinct.”

Lu Yin turned to look at the Greater Sancte.

Green Lotus casually continued, “If you were that bug, would you recklessly teleport into an unknown region without first observing it?

“Even with the Immortal Lord’s protection, the unknown will always represent danger for all creatures.”
