Chapter 4162: Discovery

Chapter 4162: Discovery

After a pause, Greater Sancte Green Lotus continued to say, “No one would blindly step into a fog that they cannot look past, and Luo Chan is no exception. It would not continuously teleport around in the way you are imagining. Given how much the Immortal Lord protects that bug, I can safely say that, when it comes to searching for civilizations, the Nest civilization does not rely on Luo Chan at all. Its role is reserved solely for the battlefield.”

Lu Yin agreed. “No one can ensure that it won’t coincidentally teleport into a fishing civilization’s territory.”

Green Lotus barked a wry laugh. “For all we know, it could potentially appear right in Obscura’s headquarters or the Death Megaverse itself. Should that happen, then never mind the Immortal Lord—even the civilization behind Luo Chan might not be able to save the bug. It cherishes its life and will not act recklessly.

“Looking back at our war with the Nest civilization, I happened to notice a pattern in Luo Chan’s teleporting; it always reappears in regions that it is already familiar with.”

“Really?” Lu Yin genuinely had not noticed that.

Green Lotus nodded. “It has happened on several occasions. So even if you had not used the Immortal beast as bait to capture Luo Chan, as soon as the war resumed, I would have simultaneously struck at several locations with a fifty percent chance of catching it.”

Lu Yin chuckled. “In that case, Luo Chan really is timid. If one’s movements form a pattern, one is bound to suffer for it.”

For the next half year, Lu Yin and his companion did not find even a single civilization.

That was perfectly normal. If megaverses could be constantly discovered, the Aevum Inch would not be so peaceful.

Their back to back discovery of two civilizations had mostly been a mere coincidence.

A single pathfinding stone could only carry a limited amount of consciousness, which in turn limited one’s perception. How was it possible to coincidentally stumble upon megaverses with that many restrictions?

Any civilization that ruled a megaverse had to be absolutely massive, and yet each one was miniscule within the scope of the Aevum Inch. Each pathfinding stone could only observe a limited area, and it was only through sheer luck that they could hope to catch any traces of a civilization.

Despite finding no megaverses, Lu Yin actually felt relieved.

There were simply too many bizarre lifeforms in the Aevum Inch, each of which possessed their own abilities. If Lu Yin could repeatedly find megaverses by teleporting about, then other creatures should be able to find humanity with their own unique means. That would prevent human civilization from ever knowing peace. Failing was actually a better outcome, given the overall behavior of civilizations in the Aevum Inch.

“Huh?” Lu Yin’s expression abruptly changed as he turned to look in a certain direction.

Greater Sancte Green Lotus was puzzled. “What is it?”

Lu Yin’s face grew grave. “The buyer for the megaverse that One-Eye sold the coordinates to just arrived.”

Green Lotus’s eyes flashed. “It has been more than fifty years, which is about right. Come, let’s go take a look.”

Lu Yin nodded and teleported away with the Immortal.

They were both extremely curious about who had been buying the coordinates for megaverses from One-Eye, as the civilization was likely a technological one.

For a technological civilization to be approaching or even reaching a fishing civilization’s level was absolutely terrifying.

Given that the ceiling for cultivation was the Immortal realm, Lu Yin at least had some understanding of that limit. On the other hand, he had absolutely no idea what the limit of technology might be. The heavens alone knew what kind of weapons such a civilization might develop.

No civilization in the Aevum Inch wanted to antagonize a technological civilization whose limits could not be seen, not even someone as powerful as Greater Sancte Green Lotus.

For that reason, they stopped far away from the megaverse, and Green Lotus immediately concealed his aura to avoid being detected.

In the distance, the megaverse appeared brighter than ever before. Countless beams of light shone upon it, seemingly bathing it in a warm glow. Outer space was illuminated, as well as the strange creatures that inhabited the megaverse. The light even seemed to light up the stars.

But the creatures did not suffer even the slightest bit of harm.

In the distance, the megaverse was growing increasingly brighter, until it dazzled the eyes. The sight was strangely disturbing.

It looked like fireworks, and it was stunningly beautiful.

Lu Yin watched from the distance. “The creatures in that megaverse are completely unharmed. Is that because the attack hasn’t started yet, or...?”

Green Lotus’s expression was grave. “I cannot sense anything, and we mustn’t investigate recklessly.

“The foreign civilization is over there.”

Lu Yin saw it. At the edge of the megaverse, there was a patch of light. It was ovoid and non-metallic. The light hung in the middle of outer space like an oblong ball of radiance.

Clearly, that was the civilization’s spacecraft.

Lu Yin very much wanted to pierce the light and see what lay within it.

However, both men were cautious of this foreign civilization. Any civilization that dared to buy the coordinates of an unknown megaverse had to be powerful. At the very least, the technological civilization had to possess something on the level of an Immortal. If not, One-Eye would have been able to easily swindle the civilization.

However, One-Eye had been extremely wary of this civilization.

Countless lights descended upon the distant megaverse, harming none of the creatures or even so much as a blade of grass. The light shining on them caused the megaverse’s inhabitants to fall to their knees, believing that they were witnessing a miracle.

Even the Dukkhans in the megaverse were bewildered. They did not dare to hurry to the boundary of the megaverse and instead simply stood in a daze, staring upwards at the falling lights. Resist? The radiance was not causing them the slightest bit of harm, but not resisting also felt wrong.

The creatures had no idea what to do. They could not sense the creatures who were located outside of their megaverse.

No one could say how long the scene went on for.

Lu Yin had only noticed anything because one of his pathfinding stones had happened to pass through the area, and his attention had been drawn to the light released by the technological civilization. Otherwise, he would not have realized that anything was happening.

Before being attracted by the light, countless beams had already shot down into the megaverse.

Judging by the way the odd creatures were gazing upward, this had been going on for much longer than just a day or two.

Green Lotus and Lu Yin were in no hurry. They simply observed from a distance without interfering.

They had to admit that it was a beautiful sight. They had never imagined anyone would light up an entire megaverse into something reminiscent of fireworks.

At the same time, inside the ovoid vessel on the edge of the megaverse, a conversation unfolded.

“Foreign matter detected. Remove it?”

“Analyze it.”

“Beep. Analyzing... Beep. Analyzing... Beep. Analysis complete. Biological imaging indicates: unrecorded lifeforms. Energy level cannot be determined. Height... volume... degree of material fusion...”

“Run a complete analysis.”

“Beep. Complete analysis in progress... Beep. Complete analysis in progress... Beep. Complete analysis complete. Energy level cannot be determined...”

“Send the analysis report back to the empire. Conclusion: possible encounter with a formidable lifeform that would be difficult to confront. Complete analysis has proven ineffective. Terminate testing of the current megaverse and fully investigate the unknown lifeform. Request that the empire unlock the armory.”

“Beep. Imperial response: authorization granted to unlock current final armory.”

“Glory: Fire.”

With that, countless beams of light shot out of the megaverse and into every direction of the Aevum Inch. The megaverse looked like a hedgehog of light.

Seeing the beams approach, Lu Yin asked, “Senior, shall we go?”

The Greater Sancte stared at the lights. “Go.”

The two instantly vanished.

The light swept through where they had been standing, but it touched nothing.

Lu Yin and Green Lotus did not know that they had been detected. The technological civilization’s means were not necessarily profound, but given that they used nothing but technology to locate their targets, it was hard for cultivators to sense the methods.

At the boundary of the megaverse, inside the ovoid vessel. “Lifeform has vanished. Alert: lifeform has vanished. Lifeform has vanished...”

“It simply vanished? They couldn’t have simply been moving fast, as we have already fully scanned the surrounding region. Even the strongest Immortal would struggle to disappear without disturbing anything. If they did not leave at high speed, then what other explanation is there? Space? Time? Run absolute analysis.”

“Beep. Absolute analysis in progress... Beep. Absolute analysis in progress... Beep. Absolute analysis complete: no result.”

“What a terrifying creature. They should have been unaware that we were tracking them. Glory covers an extensive region, and it did not target them alone. They should reappear again. Glory, terminate.”

A short while later, Lu Yin and Green Lotus reappeared more. “Senior, were we noticed by that foreign civilization?”

“That’s quite possible. The fear that everyone in the Aevum Inch holds towards technological civilizations is not without cause. Technological means are often simple, yet highly effective.”

“So should we have come back?”

“If we have already been discovered, returning hardly matters. If we haven’t, then we are still fine. Either way, we must continue observing. They cannot do anything to us.”

“However, if they are able to detect us from this distance, that means that their civilization has detection methods that work at an even greater range. If they use those methods while close to Obscura’s gate, what will happen?”

Lu Yin’s question caused the Greater Sancte’s expression to change. They had already been extremely cautious, maintaining such a great distance from the megaverse that it appeared to be no larger than a bowl, and yet they had still been detected. That proved that the enemy’s detection methods were extremely impressive, and Obscura’s gate might not remain hidden from the technological civilization.

“If they have indeed found us, then we must deal with them. We should force them to reveal as much of what they are capable of as possible. If we can locate their home, even better.”

Lu Yin nodded and looked into the distance, hoping that they would not be forced down that path. He absolutely did not want to antagonize another powerful civilization at this time.

His hopes were completely shattered when a single beam of light shot towards them from the distance.

They had indeed been detected. There was no attempt at any sort of communication before another beam of light shot straight at them. But even as it drew nearer and nearer, Lu Yin and Green Lotus still did not move.

While they feared the unknown technological civilization, that did not mean that they felt the need to be cautious about a random attack. After all, both men possessed the combat strength of an Immortal. No matter how formidable or unbelievable the technological civilization’s methods might be, those means could only ever match an Immortal’s power, never surpass it.

The beam of light drew closer and closer, only stopping when it was less than 100 meters away from the two men.

Greater Sancte Green Lotus had used karma to seal off the space in front of them, severing the nearby void in order to prevent the other unknown civilization from obtaining images of them. Unless the technological civilization was capable of breaking through karma itself, all recordings or images that the beam would normally be able to obtain would be rendered useless.

“Unable to record. Unable to record. Unable to record...”

“Initiate close-range absolute analysis.”

“Beep. Absolute analysis in progress... Beep. Absolute analysis in progress... Beep. Absolute analysis complete. No results.”

“Still no results? Activate the anti-radiance weapon.”

“Anti-radiance weapon activated.”

Boom!

A violent explosion ripped across the Aevum Inch. The beam of light suddenly detonated right in front of Lu Yin and Greater Sancte Green Lotus. The power was not impressive to either of them; at best, the explosion was as powerful as a Progenitor’s attack. However, the blast was not confined to the beam itself. It also dragged the surrounding space into the explosion. Even though Greater Sancte Green Lotus had shielded them with karma, the area near them still exploded. It was as though the entire cosmos had been blown apart.

This far exceeded their expectations.

Lu Yin casually waved a hand, spreading ripples outward as space shifted. He was able to sense that something about the nearby space had changed, but he was unable to immediately discern exactly what that change was.

He raised a hand and lightly tapped in the direction of the ovoid vessel.

Power shot out from the tip of his finger, ripping through the void. In an instant, it had already arrived at the vessel of light. Ripples spread across the surface like disturbed water as the object forcefully endured the blow. It was actually able to withstand Lu Yin’s attack, and it stood unbroken.

He was quite surprised. “Impressive defenses.”

Inside the ovoid light, multiple alarms were ringing. “Warning! Defenses at maximum capacity. Warning! Defenses at maximum capacity.”
