Chapter 4608: Reversal As The Arrowhead
The bizarre flow of time made Lu Yin dizzy just from watching. He stared on blankly as Old Man Hehe and Ruinfall manipulated time, feeling somewhat dazed. He could not even understand many of the ways that the two of them were using the power of time, even as the two clashed with each other using those very methods.
Their battle grew so chaotic that Hong Xia and Ji completely avoided that part of the battlefield.
“Purple, I will definitely drag you with me and have the River of Aeons’ main stream pull you away!” Ruinfall's Stillness spread out like mist, merging with the gray power of time.
Across from the Abyssal, Old Man Hehe remained unphased. “Try it, hehe.”
“I cannot make sense of it. Just how have you been plotting against me all these years? When was the first time you caused the main stream to notice me?”
“It was nothing more than a small trick.”
“We are both ferrymen of the River of Aeons. Whatever you can do, I can do as well.”
“Hehe. During our previous battle, 100 branches of the River of Aeons were used to hide you from the cosmos, and yet their true purpose was to draw me out and knock me into the main River of Aeons. Was that your idea, or someone else's?”
Lu Yin listened to the two from inside the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array. Was Old Man Hehe also a ferryman of the River of Aeons? It was no wonder why they were able to draw upon the main stream of the River of Aeons and wield the power of time in such a terrifying manner.
Had the earlier attempt to help Ruinfall deceive the cosmos and release its restrictions been fundamentally aimed at Old Man Hehe? Who else knew about this? Lu Yin had been the one translating Thousand Machinations' words leading up to this war; was it possible that not even Thousand Machinations was aware of this?
If so, who was controlling everything from behind the scenes?
“Only by knocking you down from the main stream can you possibly be defeated. Otherwise, not even Nethersea Suppression might be able to defeat you. Devouring Trace died during that last battle, but even that was worthwhile,” Ruinfall said.
Old Man Hehe laughed. “Devouring Trace's death was not a part of your plans. I also did not believe that that toad was capable of killing an Abyssal, hehe. But even if you somehow manage to knock me down from the River of Aeons’ main stream, so what? Are you now able to defeat me?”
As they spoke, a purple sword appeared in outer space. Divine energy twined around it, the light spreading for hundreds of millions of kilometers: Sword Planting.
The purple sword slashed at Ruinfall, and Stillness surged out. The Abyssal was already unleashing Final Age. Two points moved towards the purple sword, and the purple sword sliced into Final Age. The time of the two points, cycling endlessly, shattered the purple sword. For a moment, the vast Stillness succeeded in dispersing the gray power of time and even suppressed the purple divine energy.
Old Man Hehe swayed in place, and a moment later, one purple sword after another appeared, each of them slicing at Final Age like falling raindrops.
Lu Yin was startled. How was this possible? The number of swords produced by Sword Planting depended on how many trajectories the sword had traced beforehand. In other words, without any previous attacks, Sword Planting became meaningless. At best, it would only release a single sword slash.
But Old Man Hehe had clearly not used their sword before, and yet so many purple swords had appeared.
This was not Sword Planting.
Lu Yin stared at those purple swords. Each one had a nearly imperceptible bit of the gray power of time wrapped around it. Old Man Hehe was applying their own technique to the purple swords. It merely looked like Sword Planting; it was not.
The numerous purple swords all cut towards Ruinfall. The rain of swords fell, and even Final Age could not withstand such an assault. The time of the two points was completely cut away. Moreover, because the purple swords were entwined with the gray power of time, the entire area grew distorted, and a vacuum of time appeared in the region.
Stillness surged from Ruinfall's form, creating a black radiance that passed through the purple rain of swords and spread towards Old Man Hehe.
At the same time, purple divine energy surged out from Old Man Hehe to meet the Stillness.
The clash between purple and black completely scattered the remnants of the destroyed megaverses. The rain of purple swords pierced the void as they shot at Ruinfall. One blade after another passed through space.
Lu Yin just watched. These purple swords had been unleashed by Old Man Hehe, and each one possessed a shocking level of destructive power. Ruinfall was strong, but if it were directly struck, it would definitely suffer miserably.
But even after the rain of swords passed by, Ruinfall remained unharmed. There was absolutely no sign that it had ever been struck by the swords.
Lu Yin's eyes flared. None of these supreme powerhouses were easy to deal with. Fighting any one of them involved not only a contest of power, but also a battle of wits.
How had Ruinfall pulled this off? Lu Yin wanted to find some clues.
“Hehe. After so many years apart, you have cultivated your Temporal Power to an increasingly formidable level. There is not a single trace.”
Ruinfall replied, “One of your cosmic laws is Time’s Horizon. Within that horizontal line, your attacks can repeat infinitely. That rain of purple swords may look like countless swords, but in truth, there is only one. You merely released the same attack endlessly within the same moment of time.
“You understand me, just as I understand you. The only thing that I cannot understand is exactly how you plotted against me. I had thought that I had hidden myself very carefully and that I would not be discovered by the River of Aeons’ main stream, and yet you were still able to expose me.”
Old Man Hehe swayed. “The more curious you are, the less I want to say it.”
Lu Yin arched a brow. This was indeed Old Man Hehe, always asking for a beating.
Ruinfall sneered. “You plotted against me and succeeded. I will certainly be dragged away by the main stream. But do not think that you can escape!”
After saying this, Stillness gradually curved to form a bow in front of the Abyssal. “Momentum becomes the force, the aeons become the string, time becomes the arrow, and Reversal becomes the arrowhead.
“You have not forgotten this move, have you?”
Old Man Hehe smiled faintly. “Have you forgotten that you have never been able to defeat me with this move?”
“Then I will try again.” Ruinfall fired an arrow. It appeared to travel very slow, but at that moment, time, space, and all obstructions ceased to exist. Only the arrow remained, as though it had already struck its target the moment it was fired. This had nothing to do with the process or the result; it seemed more like a kind of natural inevitability. It struck because of necessity.
Lu Yin stared at the arrow. It had to hit. This was not what he hoped for, but what he knew deep inside. This arrow was guaranteed to strike its target. No matter who saw it, they would confirm the same thing.
The necessity that Ruinfall had released with this arrow came from common sense itself, and it was fired precisely with what the arrowhead represented: Reversal.
What was Reversal?
Lu Yin very much wanted to know. He urgently wanted to learn this arrow. This was an arrow tailor made for him. He had already dabbled in both the power of time and the power of space. Ruinfall used Reversal as the arrowhead and time as the shaft of the arrow, while Lu Yin wanted to use divine energy and Stillness as the arrow and their merged state as the arrowhead. If he could succeed in doing that, he would certainly give anyone he faced a nasty surprise.
The arrow drew closer and closer to Old Man Hehe. In front of them, a gray flow of energy appeared. Time was moving.
Lu Yin stared intently. It should not be possible to block this arrow, but that was Old Man Hehe. More importantly, Old Man Hehe had said that they had never been defeated by Ruinfall's arrow. Since that was the case, how would they break this arrow?
What had to be broken was not the arrow, nor the battle technique, but rather an attempt, an inevitability.
The arrow stopped. Its arrowhead kept spinning and trembling.
That necessity had encountered an accident.
This was like if two versions of the same person had appeared in an ordinary world. It destroyed common sense.
Ruinfall fired another arrow. It looked like it had already known that the first arrow would be stopped. The second arrow arrived in an instant, and it was followed by the third and the fourth. Arrow after arrow was fired as Ruinfall sought to break Old Man Hehe's defenses.
Old Man Hehe had already been submerged. From Lu Yin's position, he could no longer see them. A strange shift occurred, which should be from another cosmic law.
“The Unequal Line of Time can transform an enemy's attacks, but how many can you transform?” Ruinfall shouted, still firing arrow after arrow. “Time cannot be reversed. That is Reversal. Despite that, you are constantly reversing and altering time. This should increase the likelihood of you being the one taken away by the main stream of the River of Aeons even further.”
“Hehe. You gathered the power of the Death Megaverse to force me down from the main stream, but in the end, you are still incapable of defeating me. Ruinfall, it is time for you to leave.”
“You are the one who should leave!” Ruinfall suddenly looked over at the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array. “Withered Requiem, why have you not acted yet?”
The cosmos fell silent. One gaze after another turned to stare at the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array.
Hong Xia was secretly startled. So this was the Death Megaverse's backup plan. Ruinfall had merely been keeping Purple restrained so that Withered Requiem could act with the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array.
That was the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array. A battle absolutely could not be fought under its influence.
Inside the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array, Lu Yin stood up. Was it his turn? He looked up, his gaze moving over to Old Man Hehe before locking onto Ruinfall. Clear Sky Locked Earth Array, release.
In that instant, the tall mountain shook, and the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array expanded with a boom.
Lu Yin still could not control the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array, but doing something as simple as expanding and contracting its range was not a problem. When he said that he could not control it, he was referring to the multiple variations that the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array possessed as a Grand Clarity sourcebox array. Those layers were the true essence of a Grand Clarity sourcebox array. Without studying them, it was impossible for Lu Yin to understand them just by merely observing the array.
The same was true of the sourcebox array that he had learned on the Lepidarch Continent. What he had actually learned was merely the first of numerous layers of the array.
However, this was still enough.
As the Clear Sky Locked Earth Array expanded, Old Man Hehe retreated.
However, Ruinfall continued firing multiple arrows, preventing Old Man Hehe from moving. To move was to be struck by the arrows.
Ruinfall was very strong. As one of the Death Megaverse’s seven Abyssals, the combination of its mastery of time with its various battle techniques and vast reserves of Stillness was enough for it to move unhindered among any two-law Immortals. However, compared to Old Man Hehe, who was strong enough to face Ni Bieluo and three-law powerhouses, Ruinfall was somewhat lacking. Even though Old Man Hehe had been knocked down from the River of Aeons’ main stream, in terms of pure power, Ruinfall was still not equal to Old Man Hehe.
The Clear Sky Locked Earth Array was the true backup plan. Ruinfall was using the Aeonic Bow to force Old Man Hehe into a position where it had no path of retreat.
The Clear Sky Locked Earth Array enveloped the area. Instantly, the Clear Sky transformed every battle technique within the array.
A human figure rushed up from below.
The gray power of time scattered. Divine energy scattered. At the same time, Stillness scattered.
Old Man Hehe was taken aback.
Ruinfall was equally stunned. Its Stillness had scattered, and its bow had also been abruptly dispersed as it was condensed from the power of time, but why?
Whoosh.
Far away, Hong Xia stared on in a daze as Ruinfall was pierced through by the human figure. Although Hong Xia was unable to clearly see the person’s face, they were unquestionably a human. They were also very powerful, though not an Immortal. Another Aberrant?
Lu Yin passed straight through Ruinfall's body, pulling out a stream of black energy. His palm attack had struck as if nothing had been obstructing it.
He turned around and lashed out with another palm strike.
Ruinfall quickly fell back, and Lu Yin's palm struck empty space. He followed up, chasing after Ruinfall with another attack. Lifeforce erupted, and in an instant, he drew it all away to surround the area. As he used this technique, there was a flash of white light that covered the sky, like the flash of black light of Cosmic Erasure.
Sure enough, Lu Yin was unleashing Cosmic Erasure with all of his divine energy clone’s Lifeforce.
