Chapter 4623: Battlefield

Chapter 4623: Battlefield

As for the Lousai race, when he had teleported over and been discovered by them, he had already revealed his human form. There was nothing that he could do about that.

Now, it was time to cultivate.

His consciousness returned to his true body, which took his divine energy clone out and teleported away.

He needed to cultivate with both his true body, which needed to roll his die, and with his growth clone, so that it could enter the Divine Palace without issue.

As for whether Lu Yin would ever truly enter the Divine Palace, that could be considered later. Registering with the Divine Palace was merely a backup option.

He constantly teleported around, finding one place to cultivate after another. Starting with Mountain, he easily mastered the powers of Mountain, Moon, Illumination, Dusk, and Reversal. Finally, he stood by an ocean and flicked his finger. The seawater stretched out, and the power of Tide struck the shore, only for the water to be split open by one finger.

He looked at the result produced by the tide and the power of releasing it with one finger, which resembled a bow and arrow.

The power of Tide had also been cultivated to completion.

These powers were too simple. That enlightenment god had only cultivated up to Tide, but the subsequent powers would not be a challenge either. The only problem was that he did not know where or how to cultivate them.

For him, cultivating new powers was very simple. The difficulty lay in finding those powers.

Having cultivated the power of Tide, it was now time to roll his die.

Lu Yin found a hidden place, raised his hand, and produced his die. He tapped it with a finger. One pip: Pilfer.

Something useless dropped out.

Three pips: Enhance.

He did have something that needed to be Enhanced, which was the material from the primal talismans that he had harvested from the Lepidarch's back. It should be possible to Enhance that material with Myriad Metal Qi.

He had stored the material inside his cosmic ring, but there was no reason to waste time on it right now. He still did not know when he would encounter Grand Clarity.

Again.

Six pips: Possession. Lu Yin's gaze sharpened. Success.

In that strange dark space, orbs of light appeared one after another, packed quite densely together. Did all of them cultivate the power of Tide? There were quite a few.

Lu Yin found the brightest ball of light and merged with it. It could only be called the brightest in comparison to the others around it. Compared to Lu Yin himself, it was so dim that it was practically lightless.

"Great Enlightenment God, why am I still unable to cultivate the power of Dusk? The world seems dark, yet is the dark not right here? This humble one has already cultivated for many years." A creature completely covered in long hair was kneeling and bowing while petitioning.

Lu Yin opened his eyes, and memories started to pour in, leaving him no chance to reply.

He saw the experiences of this enlightenment god and finally started to gain some understanding of the surrounding region of the Aevum Inch.

Below the altar, the hairy creature remained kneeling. Seeing that the enlightenment god still had not spoken, it carefully raised its head. "Great Enlightenment God?"

Lu Yin's eyes shifted and fell upon the creature. "Appearing dark yet not at peace represents both one’s environment and one’s state of mind."

"State of mind?" The creature was utterly shocked. Had it already risen to such a level?

Lu Yin withdrew from the Possession. He had already reviewed all of the valuable memories that the enlightenment god possessed. In truth, there was no real value to anything that Lu Yin saw, as a mere enlightenment god had no qualifications to enter the Divine Palace.

It had only cultivated on the very outskirts of the Divine Palace. Only by cultivating the power of Return could a creature truly enter the Divine Palace.

He almost felt as though he had returned to Withered Requiem’s Abyss, when he had been trying to get inside the castle.

An enlightenment god could only grant him access to the most common of knowledge.

Lu Yin's consciousness returned to his own body, and he continued rolling the die. He quickly rolled six pips again and Possessed another enlightenment god. This one also only had the most common knowledge. Again...

Time passed, and Lu Yin eventually Possessed no less than seven enlightenment gods. The memories that he came across were more or less the same, except that each enlightenment god was from a different civilization.

Lu Yin saw no humans in any of the enlightenment gods' memories.

This would not do. He needed to Possess some combat gods, or even higher-leveled gods, to obtain valuable memories.

However, to cultivate River, he needed to first find a combat god or go to the outskirts of the Divine Palace.

But Lu Yin could not go there yet. He first needed to gain more knowledge of the Divine Palace before he interacted more deeply with it. The Divine Palace lay beyond the range that he could see with the Mirrorlight Art.

He could see a vast distance with the Mirrorlight Art, a distance of 200 years’ travel. Even the distance between the Trio’s former location and Crimson Starshade had only been about 300 years’ travel.

There was no telling just how large the Divine Palace’s territory was.

Despite Possessing several enlightenment gods, none of them had much knowledge of the surrounding area of the Aevum Inch. After all, they were only Dukkhans. Without the Divine Palace's methods, they might very well die upon entering the Aevum Inch without ever finding another megaverse.

If his earlier guess was correct and the Divine Palace was the local representative of the Temporal Primacy, then unlike the region of the Aevum Inch where he had come from, there was no existence in this region capable of opposing the Divine Palace.

Perhaps this was the reason why Wang Wen had once mentioned that only losers would be forced to leave their own region of the Aevum Inch.

In the Trio’s previous region, all kinds of cosmic civilizations had fought and slaughtered one another, and the powers of the Primacy Path had not been affected at all.

However, this new region was under the influence of the Primacy Paths. Each Primacy Path was controlled by an Overlord, and this Divine Palace was therefore a representative serving beneath an Overlord.

It was possible that, even if a fishing civilization encountered the Divine Palace, it would struggle to put up a fight.

The Divine Palace’s territory was of course incomparably vast. Was that why there was mention of territories being assigned to divine envoys?

But if that was accurate, then it meant that even Immortals would find it hard to have any sort of freedom.

If only losers left their native region of the Aevum Inch, then the Trio’s former region might be one of the rare places of freedom in the cosmos.

With some new guesses in mind, Lu Yin rolled his die again.

He saw six pips and Possessed another enlightenment god. He wanted to find the Divine Palace's coordinates if at all possible. Only near the Divine Palace could he find existences above the enlightenment gods. Of course, a powerful civilization would also do.

Soon enough, after Possessing several more enlightenment gods, Lu Yin obtained the cultivation method for River from the memories of one of the gods’.

That particular enlightenment god had advanced by using its connections. Specifically, there was a senior of the same species who had entered the Divine Palace and cultivated Void. That senior had taken a divine envoy, which meant an Immortal, as its master, and it had gained some level of status even within the Divine Palace.

An exception had been made for that creature to tell its junior how to cultivate River.

Once the power was successfully cultivated, it would become a combat god. At that time, it would be able to rely on its connection to be transferred into the Divine Palace, where it could enjoy generous resources and a better cultivation environment rather than actually wage war everywhere like the other combat gods. As for joining the battlefield, going through the motions would be enough.

That was also true; the Divine Palace needed to wage wars. It targeted cosmic civilizations and other existences that not even this particular enlightenment god was aware of.

This was something that no other enlightenment god that Lu Yin had Possessed had known about, though it was also possible that their memories were simply too vast and he had not seen the matter before.

Did even the Divine Palace have opponents that it waged war against? Was that why combat gods existed?

Lu Yin did not know who might be fighting against the Divine Palace. If it was a civilization, it had to be a fishing civilization.

It was truly a good thing to have connections. When others became combat gods, they were sent to the battlefield to wage war against other civilizations, to fight and kill. On the other hand, this enlightenment god did not need to do any of that. It merely needed to go through the motions before it would be transferred into the Divine Palace. Even there, it would have quite a high status.

Such a connection also benefited Lu Yin, as it was how he learned how to cultivate the power of River.

The so-called power of River was nothing more than a name. This power was not related to an environment like Mountain, Moon, or Tide. It was not so simple that an Immortal could casually infuse a bit of power into other beings and allow them to cultivate it. Instead, this power required comprehension.

In fact, it had to be comprehended from the six powers that had been cultivated previously. By using the six powers as the form, one needed to cultivate a spirit for those powers, and that spirit was the power of River. Therefore, if one did not cultivate the first six powers, it would be impossible for them to cultivate River.

There were all kinds of powers in the cosmos, and River was not particularly strong. However, the Divine Palace only recognized River and the other powers, so there was nothing to be done about it.

After learning the cultivation method, Lu Yin easily cultivated River.

Comprehension? There was no need for that. In truth, after he cultivated the first six powers, he had naturally deduced quite a few things that could come next, and one of them had just happened to be the power of River.

It was too easy. If one truly cultivated these powers from the very beginning, they were absolutely no easier to cultivate than stellular energy. In fact, they were much harder, as one needed to search for cultivation methods and proper environments.

After understanding the power of River, Lu Yin cultivated for a short while and gathered a vast amount of the power. That done, he used it to roll his die.

Several days later, Lu Yin rolled six pips on his die. The power of River was rapidly consumed, and his consciousness appeared in the dark space.

As far as he could see, there were balls of light quietly floating.

He found one and merged into it.

He opened his eyes to see blood and fire filling the sky. Beneath the stars, all kinds of different creatures were slaughtering one another. There were some beings from cultivation civilizations and others from technological civilizations, though their technology appeared to be rather limited, merely comparable to the Infinity Empire of the past.

The combat god that Lu Yin had Possessed was a ferocious creature that was covered with armor. Its cold-blooded gaze stared into outer space, and one being after another stood guard nearby. Clearly, this creature stood above all others.

This combat god was a Dukkhan, and at the moment, it was about to reset the megaverse.

Combat gods were responsible for battle. The order to reset this megaverse had been received from another, stronger combat god who had already been granted a territory. This combat god had pledged allegiance to the more powerful one and thus had to obey its commands in this megaverse for a very long time. Lu Yin had Possessed the creature during the final battle in which all the civilizations in this megaverse were being forced to slaughter one another.

This was another side of the Divine Palace.

This megaverse’s civilizations had offered up enough time, but they were still unable to escape destruction, because the combat god who had issued the order was required to periodically hand over a reset megaverse. The purpose of this was very simple: it allowed certain beings in the Divine Palace to attempt to break through to the Immortal realm.

Through this combat god, Lu Yin learned that the Divine Palace currently had thirteen divine envoys.

To be honest, that was far too few. It was much less than what Lu Yin had expected. This was comparable to just a single fishing civilization.

There should not be so few. The Divine Palace had many combat gods with their own territories, and every once in a while, they would reset a megaverse. Even if the probability was low, over the course of countless years, there should not be just thirteen Immortals.

Not only that, but the Divine Palace was also the local representative of the Temporal Primacy. It should be much easier for its members to break into the Immortal realm than it was for ordinary creatures. After all, they had access to far greater knowledge, unlike the people of the Fifth Mainland long ago. For them, it had been incredibly difficult to even break through to the Progenitor realm simply because they had known nothing.

Given such optimal circumstances, how could there only be thirteen divine envoys? In comparison, there were quite a few Dukkhans.

Lu Yin continued to browse the creature’s memories.

Battles frequently broke out around it. Some creatures tried to ambush it, but they were all dealt with by its guards.

It was not that this megaverse lacked intelligent beings. Some had seen through their situation, but they were powerless. Ultimately, their strength was insufficient.

Memories continued to pour in.

It was hard to fathom the Divine Palace's system. A combat god who became a peak Dukkhan, with a combat power close to reaching the limit beneath the Immortal realm, could still be addressed by mere mortals through an altar. Such a being clearly stood high above mortals, yet when facing beings from civilizations that did not need to be exterminated, even peak Dukkhans would answer, provided that a sufficient price was paid.

Cultivation had not separated the mortals from their gods. Instead, it brought them closer. This was highly unusual in the previous region of the Aevum Inch. The stronger the cultivator, the more they tended to look down on mortals. The two sides unconsciously distanced themselves from each other.

In fact, it was impossible for mortals to even see a peak Dukkhan in Lu Yin’s old region, let alone ask one questions.

This was a cultivation world with a system. The common sense of the previous region of the Aevum Inch did not apply here.
