Enigma looked at me with mysterious red eyes under his white mask.
Noticing my presence in the store, he seemed rather surprised I was there.
I wasn't sure if he was pleased, though, but he showed some sort of reaction.
"Ah, the young lady, I see. That unique aura around you, it must be you. I thought for a moment it was your mother, but she's long gone," he said. "Welcome to the humble store I manage, where everything the clan loots can be bought back for a price. I don't deal with any sort or form of currency. The only thing here that has any value to me is Contribution Points, understood?"
"Yes… Uh, who are you?" I wondered. "Another of my father's weird friends?"
"Weird? Haha," he laughed. "I see you've brought four of his weird friends, hm? Have you come to purchase items as well?"
"We've come to recommend some things to her," Wasp said. "Introduce yourself properly to the young lady."
"Yes, yes," the store manager sighed. "My name is Enigma. I am indeed the man who works for your father, young lady."
"That's all? What are your origins? Where did you come from?" I wondered. "Mirabilis revealed to me she was a Shoggoth right away."
"I dislike revealing my true form or identity…" Enigma said. "Hence why they call me Enigma, and I liked it enough to turn it into my name. Who am I? Where do I come from? Well, who knows? As far as I know, I have no obligation to tell you, young lady."
"Fair enough," I sighed. "Alright, I've got a thousand points. I hope that's enough for something."
"It's a substantial amount. You can purchase some premium items in my store with that," Enigma said. "Usually, the members of your organization earn from 1 to 10 points per mission."
"That little?!" I asked.
"Slightly better missions reward from 10 to 30 points, and so on. The highest missions can reward as much as 500," he said. "For you to earn a thousand immediately, it means that, first, your father is spoiling you, and second, you completed a very important mission that changed and helped the organization as a whole."
"Yeah, I worked as bait to help the organization find the hideout of a new group trying to take over our turf," I said. "My father arrived, and we had a war against them, and we won, overtaking their territory."
"Impressive. The young lady is only eighteen, and she is already doing great things. I am pleased," he said. "Just for that, I will give you a ten percent discount on the first ten items you purchase."
"Well, thank you!" I said. "I had no idea you could give discounts, Enigma."
"He can, but he never does…" Frankenstein muttered. "This is the first time I've ever seen him give one."
"Indeed, it must be because you're the young lady," Medea nodded.
"Enigma, she needs a Martial Arts Manual, and don't show us the shabby, cheap stuff," Wasp said. "Show me the best three you've got."
"Understood." Enigma quickly disappeared, and then suddenly, amidst the darkness behind the countless items piled inside this moderately small room, shadowy hands wearing white gloves appeared, bringing forth three books from the darkness. "I believe these could be of use."
He suddenly manifested out of nowhere in the darkness, surprising me.
Just what was he?
That's definitely not what a human being can do.
"Young lady, come here," Wasp said. "Please."
"Sure." I walked to his side as he showed me the three books on the desk.
There was a yellow book with a golden and red flame at the center, another book with a man standing and punching the air, coated with a strong aura, and the third showed a man sitting, expanding some sort of transparent domain from his forehead.
"I recommend all three of these," Wasp said. "The first book is the Thousand Soul Flame Furnace Refinement Art. It's a Cultivation Technique that uses your own soul to refine your body. Due to your unique existence as a being who is solely a soul that materializes a body at will, this is perfect. It will help you comprehend the soul to its deepest meaning and then see further through the Primordial Chaos, turning your soul into an imperishable flame. It will make it much tougher, capable of faster regeneration, and more."
"Ooh, sounds great," I said. "And the other two?"
"The other two are Martial Arts, the building blocks of your own unique power. You must learn and master them," Wasp said. "The first is called Records of the Man Who Went Against the World. These techniques draw upon your inner psyche and manifest power based on Will and Soul. They also grow stronger as you comprehend your place in the world and who you fight for. It was written thousands of years ago in China."
"Interesting…" I nodded. "And the last?"
"The last is the Grazing Heaven Philosophy. This will allow you to further strengthen your Intent, which is almost nonexistent due to your lack of training," Wasp explained. "Intent is not an Aura but the embodiment of your Mind and your own Willpower. It is the pressure that you felt from me when you fought me, a power you couldn't comprehend back then."
"Right!" I nodded. "There was a weird power coming from you that wasn't Aura, nor Magic, nor any other sort of supernatural force…"
"This book will help you both awaken it and elevate it to a higher realm," Wasp said, handing me all three books.
"Each book is 100 Contribution Points. Are you sure about this purchase, young lady?" Enigma asked.
"Well, Wasp knows more than I do for sure," I said, looking at him. "And… I trust him."
"…" Wasp remained silent, but I think he felt a little happy about that.
"Excellent," Enigma said. "With the ten percent discount, that'll be 270 Contribution Points."
With a wave of his hand, transparent coins suddenly appeared over his hand, which his shadowy body absorbed entirely.
