Death… And Me

Chapter 4192: How Many Plates?

Chapter 4192: How Many Plates?

Turns out Roan was right. The Empire, using that tear connected to The Echo, created a small ripple that attracted the Primordial Demon Beasts. The Echo sensed danger, contacted Default, who passed the orders forward. Because Default can interact a little with The Echo, and he can’t go against its wishes, he also made sure the other Primordial Demon Beasts couldn’t refuse to help.

Thus, they all ended up attacking the Werdlem Empire. They didn’t know what they were looking for, just that the problem was there. Default mentioned that the Empire was trying to create some kind of new Echo, but that was obviously not the case. They were trying to take control of the existing one. Anyway, if the twelve pillars joined forces to create the necessary ripples, they could have the empire collapse. That, in theory, should have resolved the danger.

But then again, the existence of Primordial Demon Beasts wasn’t a secret to any of the big powers of the Great Void. After all, there are ninety-nine of them, even if only twelve were the main pillars. The Empire knew they were coming as they were the ones who lured the beasts and prepared the Bubble, which had two objectives. One, to use the beasts themselves to keep them trapped inside the Bubble. And second, to absorb their Primordial Laws and Essences over time.

The beasts, once again, lost a lot of their power because of that. Now that they were finally released by the twins’ group, they were able to work out to recover, but they won’t be able to recover past the Celestial Realm. For that, they would still need to leave the Werdlem Empire completely, not just roam free inside.

Going back to the formation acting on the tear, it kept using the Primordial Laws and Essence of the Primordial Beasts to slowly ’wear out’ The Echo. At the same time, it tried to impose the Werdlem Empire’s own will into its structure. Too bad it would never take full control over The Echo that way.

Still, that’s how the Werdlem Empire was able to use The Echo to try to steal the Primordial Laws and Essences, and only failed because of Default’s resistance and Rean’s Abyssal Path idea.

Truth be told, if the twins’ group hadn’t appeared, the Empire wouldn’t have taken this action so soon. We are talking about The Echo, the very thing present in the entire Great Void. The Empire had been on this work out for eons, ever since the Primordial Beasts were captured. Taking control of The Echo took a lot of time.

The ’two cycles’ that Soza had mentioned before were related to scales of time. Literally several extra tens of billions of years. Just how many cycles had gone by? Probably even Default wasn’t sure anymore. The Empire wasn’t ready yet. The fact that Default was able to fight back and not lose his consciousness was proof of the earlyness of the Empire’s actions. Not to mention The Echo’s own struggle. Default mentioned that The Echo was trying to resist this control when it tried to act on him.

Now, let’s return to the fact that the Empire acted ahead of time. Why did they do that? Because they were afraid of the Primordial Demon Beasts leaving the Empire. If that happened, the very twelve existences that support the formation would disappear. Without them, the formation itself would collapse, and all the work would be lost. It needs the twelve demon beasts inside the Bubble to work. You can’t keep a building intact without a foundation, right?

Then, finally, there is the problem of conflict of laws that Kafuna mentioned. The Primordial Laws aren’t something that can be comprehended. There are twelve of them. However, they only exist in two forms.

One, they exist in The Echo, but in a much more raw state. This form of the Twelve Primordial Laws can’t be extracted, but can be used as the bridge to interact with The Echo, which is basically the method the Werdlem Empire is trying to apply.

The second form, or state, is the Twelve Primordial Laws present in the Twelve Primordial Demon Beasts, the pillars. These twelve are a lot more refined, as they were used to create everything in the Great Void, basically making the Great Void what it is today. The Beasts’ own Innate Abilities are highly related to these laws.

With the Twelve Primordial Beasts’ Primordial Laws and their Essences to control those laws, the Empire can use the formation to ultimately take control over The Echo. Once again, using the more raw Primordial Laws in The Echo as the bridge.

It’s a lengthy process, which wasn’t a problem as the Werdlem Empire was willing to wait as long as necessary. Would time really be an issue when the biggest prize was control over the entire Great Void? To cultivators, the answer would definitely be a big no.

So, what was the conflict, then? It was the fact that the Werdlem Empire couldn’t truly take over The Echo with those absorbed Primordial Laws, as the Primordial Beasts also have the same laws inside them. Even if the formation could absorb as many Primordial Laws and Essences for as long as it needed, it would never reach a state of completion.

All these years were for the sake of making the formation stronger and increasing the comprehension of how The Echo worked. Above all, to reach a state where they could use the formation to completely remove the Essences and Primordial Laws of the Primordial Demon Beasts in one go. Yes, ultimately killing them for real in the process. Default truly saved all the Primordial Demon Beasts’ lives, including his own, when he resisted this.

Now the Werdlem Empire can’t get a good grasp of Default and those other five Primordial Demon Beasts because they are in the Abyssal Path.

---

Latifi noticed that this wasn’t going anywhere, turning to Grotou. "We need to find Default and those other five, but I doubt they will come out from wherever they are at the moment. Focus the system on the other six beasts that we have a grasp of at the moment. Find where they are. Now that we have turned ON the formation, we should be able to pinpoint where the other six are being held. If we capture those six, we should be able to find where Default and the rest went."

Grotou nodded and immediately started to work with several of the other experts in that room. A few hours later, they got their answer. "Universe F974. The other six are there."

Soza, Latifi, and Rafina quickly prepared to leave. "Contact their Universe Owner through the Werdlem Network. Tell whoever is the owner to start looking for these beasts."

"Ah! Sir! Just a second," Grotou suddenly stopped Soza’s group. "F974... Its previous Universe Owner died a while ago, having lost his heart for a few million years already. It has now been replaced with a new Universe Owner from the Demon Beasts’ races."

Soza stopped for a moment. He would be an idiot if he thought it was just a coincidence. "How many Suppression Plates do we have in the palace’s treasure?"

Those plates were the same ones used by Gin to mask his cultivation. He used them so he could enter the lower-ranked universes while being a Celestial Realm expert. "Forget it. Just get all the plates and tell the Celestials we have available to wait for me in the palace."
