Chapter 2881: Something is Wrong

Chapter 2881: Something is Wrong

Zu An’s initial plan was to rescue Isabella and see what Hermes was up to. Isabella had managed to escape safe and sound, but he hadn’t expected Hermes to be scheming something so huge.

Hermes’s Wu Sangui played a huge role in this world’s original history. There could be unexpected variables in the future plotline if he died just like that. The Annihilation faction’s upper echelons would investigate the matter, and it was only a matter of time before Zu An was implicated.

I’ll have to temporarily take on Wu Sangui’s identity to stabilize the situation and ensure that history goes down its intended trajectory.

I really am a natural-born Time Scribe. How many histories have I messed up? O great Deity of Chaos and Enigma, you should reward me handsomely!

Yu Yanluo understood Zu An’s intention here, so she decided to return and stay in King Pingxi’s manor as his consort.

Tang Tian’er and Zhao Xiaodie were initially worried that a mishap had befallen Zu An, prompting them to sneak into the manor to conduct an assassination, but Zu An captured them and revealed his true face in the secret chamber. Needless to say, the two were shocked speechless.

He spent some time consoling them before the two returned to the capital to relay a message to Jiang Luofu.

Soon, an imperial edict was issued.

Hong Chengchou had contributed greatly to the stability of the world and wanted to retire from his official duties. The imperial court agreed to his request and rewarded him handsomely.

In the first place, the Annihilation faction’s upper echelons were averse to seeing an outsider rising to power within their ranks, but at the same time, Zu An had indeed contributed greatly to their cause. This was a rare opportunity to sideline Zu An, so they were happy to oblige.

So, Hong Chengchou gradually disappeared from the imperial court.

Zu An spent his time in Yunnan with Yu Yanluo as King Pingxi, living an idyllic life. In the meantime, Isabella, in her identity as Nine Tribulations, also attempted an assassination on him.

When Isabella learned about his identity, her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. She had no idea what Zu An was up to, and Zu An didn’t explain things to her either. She chose to trust him and quietly backed off.

Tang Tian’er and Zhao Xiaodie claimed that they had returned to their old homes with Zu An, but in truth, they often spent their time in King Pingxi’s manor.

In between, Zu An snuck out to the capital several times. Jiang Luofu and the Little Fiend Empress took these chances to complain to him—everything was great when the three of them had lived in the capital together, but Zu An suddenly moved to Yunnan for good. That made it difficult for them to even meet up.

Zu An could only apologize profusely to them while discussing their future plans.

He also visited Taiwan several times to collude with Chu Chuyan and Zheng Dan, so as to coordinate their movements.

...

Many years passed in a flash. The little emperor in the capital slowly matured.

But Oboi was gradually gaining control of the imperial court.

Suksaha had fallen out of the race due to the stain on his record as one of the Conqueror King’s old aides. Oboi had colluded with others to exploit this stain on his record to eliminate him.

In the process, Jirgalang’s influence took a blow, resulting in Oboi’s rise in dominance in the imperial court.

Jirgalang secretly scoffed. The current emperor is Kangxi. No matter how you flounder about, the Annihilation Progenitor still won’t bestow you with the authority of an envoy.

The entire imperial court grew frustrated with Oboi.

Meanwhile, the little emperor spent his days frolicking around with his playmates. Oboi thought that the little emperor was still much too immature to oppose him, so his ambitions further grew.

One day, Kangxi summoned Oboi into his quarters for an audience, but much to Oboi’s shock, Kangxi suddenly made a move on him.

Oboi threw out punches and kicks while laughing heartily. “Hahaha! You’re indeed a child. Do you think you can curb me with just these few people? I thought I’d leave you as the figurehead for several years more, but since you’re courting death, I’ll take the throne for myself!”

...

Oboi was confident. There was just no way he would be defeated by a handful of brats. However, he soon noticed something amiss. “Hm? Why are there experts from the military here? And they're using the skills of the Order faction.”

Oboi’s expression finally turned grim. These weren’t ordinary brats but military experts who had undergone strict training. Furthermore, they were using the Order faction’s skills, which curbed his power.

Even so, Oboi didn’t lose his composure. All schemes were meaningless in the face of absolute strength.

He threw out another kick, causing a young guard to spew blood. Then, he grabbed another guard and was about to tear him into two when his body suddenly shuddered. He stared at the pitch-black dagger piercing through his chest.

He slowly turned his head around and found himself facing a cold-faced man.

“Who are you?”

Oboi had already crossed hands with this young man and verified that the latter was of no threat to him. But the young man suddenly displayed a burst of strength that rivaled him. There was no way he could have been a normal servant of the cloth department!

The young man’s face distorted into a familiar one.

“It’s you!” Oboi was shocked beyond words. The other party was the long-retired Zu An!

“Why?” Oboi couldn’t understand why Zu An was helping Kangxi, as well as why Kangxi would collude with an outsider to deal with a fellow member of the Annihilation faction.

There was no chance for him to think deeper into it. The Poisonous Prick swiftly robbed him of his life force.

Zu An took a good look at the little emperor before slipping away.

The little emperor’s lips quivered. He held back the words sitting at the tip of his tongue. Then, he put on a solemn face and regained his airs as the emperor. “Relay my words! The vile Oboi dared attempt an assassination on me, so I had him executed on the spot!”

Shock rippled through the capital. Everyone wondered if Oboi had been out of his mind. But then again, Oboi has been acting arrogantly these days, so maybe he has grown complacent and thought that he can do whatever he wants.

At the same time, respect for the little emperor surged. No one expected the little emperor to be capable of taking Oboi down, and they dared not underestimate his capability anymore.

The little emperor decisively uprooted Oboi’s faction and slowly took back power. His sharp maneuvers left the Annihilation faction’s upper echelons wondering if he would become the next Annihilation envoy.

For the next few years, everything unfolded according to history.

Dealing with the Revolt of the Three Feudatories was fraught with difficulties, but ultimately, those three powers were no match for the Annihilation faction’s overwhelming strength. In the end, King Pingxi died of illness, and the Three Feudatories collapsed.

It was the same for Taiwan. The Zheng clan was defeated. It was a pity they had failed to capture the much-hated Glacier Mountain Demoness, though.

Deep in the universe, a boundless black hole suddenly burst into arrogant laughter. “Mi Li, the world has been formed. I’m going to grow even stronger. You won’t be able to compete with me anymore.”

They proceeded to absorb the world’s annihilation power.

That was a world touched by other universal deities, so the power they could gain from it was incomparable to any other. They were the final victor here. Other universal deities were no longer a match for them.

“I wonder if that’s truly the case.” The everchanging constellations in the sky twinkled, as if smiling.

The Annihilation Progenitor suddenly felt worried. It’s hard to guard against this woman’s means. Moments later, they suddenly roared. “Impossible! Something is wrong. That isn’t Annihilation’s bloodline!”
