Chapter 3316: Cattaleya Against The Whale
Even Lin Mu inhaled sharply seeing the whale. "That thing is huge."
He immediately summoned the Wonder Seeker Bow. Golden arcs of light appeared as he drew the bowstring back, condensing Sword Intent and Metal Qi into the shape of a gleaming arrow.
"Scatter," he commanded.
He released the string.
The arrow shot forth like a streak of white sunfire, splitting into ten smaller arrows mid flight. They struck the cursed beasts one after another. Sharks exploded into mist. Serpents were torn apart. The ray creature split cleanly from head to tail.
But when three arrows struck the whale, the giant creature barely flinched. The bone carapace absorbed the blows with a dull ringing sound, as though someone had struck an iron mountain.
Lin Mu narrowed his eyes and reached for another arrow. "I am going out there."
Daoist Chu grabbed his shoulder. "No. If you leave, the Sword Intent barrier will fail. The ship will be exposed. You cannot fight in the Ninth Sea without it."
Lin Mu hesitated. He knew Daoist Chu was right.
Before he could decide, Elyon stepped forward and unleashed more shadow claws. "Stay on the ship. We will handle this."
But the whale was far beyond their range. Its body could not even fully emerge from the surface due to its own size. It opened its monstrous jaws, preparing to devour the entire ship with one bite.
Then Cattaleya cracked her knuckles.
"You boys protect the ship," she said cheerfully. "I have been itching for some proper exercise since we left the Silent Lotus World."
Without waiting for permission, she leapt into the air. Her figure shot upward like a launched spear. Her muscles bulged beneath her tanned skin, and her long braid snapped behind her like a whip.
Shanhu Ying gasped. "Is she serious. That whale is a titan."
Daoist Chu placed a hand over his face. "She is always serious when punching something."
Lin Mu suppressed a sigh. "Just do not injure yourself."
Cattaleya landed on the whale’s back with a thunderous crash. The bone armor trembled under her feet. The massive beast screeched, twisting sharply and thrashing the water into towering waves.
She grinned. "That was just my landing. Let us see how hard your skull really is."
The giant whale roared, the sound rippling through the cursed black waters like a shockwave. Even the ship vibrated under the pressure of its call. The creature’s bone plated carapace shimmered with dark energy as it turned its colossal head toward the group.
Cattaleya cracked her neck once, then twice, her grin stretching wide with excitement.
She unsheathed her massive black great sword, the Dusk Thorn Sword, from its strap on her back. The blade absorbed the dim light around it, the edge humming with a deep vibrating tone that made the seawater tremble.
"Well then," she said, crouching. "Let us see how tough you are."
She leapt into the air.
Her body shot up like an arrow fired from a giant ballista. She brought the sword down in a clean arc. The blade collided with the whale’s carapace and a deafening crack echoed across the sea.
Shanhu Guimen gasped. "It actually cracked."
Shanhu Ying’s jaw fell slack. "But none of Lin Mu’s arrows even left a mark."
Lin Mu narrowed his eyes as he watched the impact. "Its carapace is resistant to qi based attacks. But not to raw physical strength."
Daoist Chu nodded. "Then Cattaleya was the perfect choice to take it on."
The whale thrashed beneath Cattaleya and tried to roll itself over. She planted her feet firmly and stabbed her sword back into the broken section of its armor. Blood seeped out in thick black streams, swirling through the water like clouds of ink.
She pulled the blade free and then slammed her fist onto the cracked surface. A deep bass boom resounded.
"Take that," she shouted.
WHAM.
Another strike.
WHAM.
Another.
The carapace splintered and caved with each blow. The whale bellowed, its giant body twisting violently as waves hundred meters high erupted in every direction.
The ship rocked violently. The Shanhu Clan youngsters clung to the railings with pale faces. Meng Bai held one of them steady when the boy nearly fell.
Shanhu Dian’s voice shook. "She is breaking that thing with her fists."
Shanhu Jie nodded repeatedly. "She is not human. She cannot be."
Lin Mu could not help but smile faintly. "No, this is exactly like her."
Elyon sent a sweeping wave of shadow claws to stop smaller beasts from approaching. "Better her than us," he muttered.
On the whale’s back, Cattaleya slammed her fist down again. The cracks spread like spiderwebs over the bone. She sheathed her sword for a moment, then grabbed the broken section of armor and pulled.
Muscles bulging, she tore a huge plate of bone off the beast and tossed it aside.
CRACK
RIP
The whale screeched, its entire body convulsing.
Cattaleya laughed with excitement. "Now we are getting somewhere."
She swung her sword in a brutal upward slash. The blade carved deep into the whale’s exposed flesh, sending a geyser of black blood into the air. The whale rolled sharply, trying to dislodge her.
But she jumped and brought her heel down on its skull.
KRAKOOM.
The whale dove sharply into the water. Cattaleya rode the movement, stabbing into its flesh again and again. She tore new wounds with her fists, elbows, and knees, fighting the beast with savage ferocity.
For several minutes, the battle raged across the dark sea. The whale let out furious bellows while Cattaleya continued damaging its defenses. The youngsters watched with awe and terror, unable to believe what they were seeing.
But then everything changed in an instant.
The whale suddenly twisted its entire massive body and performed a giant flip. Its tail slammed into Cattaleya like a falling mountain and the impact sent her soaring into the air like a shooting star.
BANG
WHOOSH
"Senior Cattaleya!" the youngsters cried out in horror as she vanished into the sky.
Shanhu Qing covered her mouth. "She is going to die."
