Chapter 3857: Adjusting His Cultivation

Chapter 3857: Adjusting His Cultivation

Lin Mu cleaned the cooking area and stored the remaining Root Turner Boar meat. He then entered the forest. He traveled for several kilometers before finding a secluded rocky area. A small cave existed between two massive boulders.

Lin Mu entered and saw that the cave extended nearly fifty meters underground.

"Good enough." Lin Mu took out several talismans.

He placed them around the cave as the talismans activated and a faint barrier formed. It blocked sound and concealed energy fluctuations.

Lin Mu sat down.

"Now comes the annoying part." He closed his eyes and the Absolute Body Control Art activated.

Lin Mu began examining his own body. The basic body tempering techniques he had collected from the library produced specific physical changes. They strengthened certain muscle fibers, they altered vitality circulation and they slightly increased skin density.

For ordinary cultivators, these changes happened gradually. Lin Mu needed to reproduce them manually. He began with his skin. The Absolute Body Control Art allowed him to manipulate his body at an incredibly fine level.

Still, deliberately weakening and altering his body was difficult. Lin Mu had to create the appearance of someone who had recently begun cultivating. Too much progress would be suspicious and too little would make the techniques appear ineffective.

Hours passed as Lin Mu adjusted the circulation of vitality beneath his skin. He changed the density of several layers of tissue. Then he moved toward the muscles. Lin Mu carefully replicated them.

The sun disappeared outside as night arrived.

Lin Mu continued working.

"This is harder than cultivating the actual techniques," he muttered.

Xukong chuckled. "Because you’re deliberately trying to appear worse."

Lin Mu sighed. "Apparently being weak requires talent too."

He continued as several more hours passed. Finally, Lin Mu opened his eyes and examined himself.

His vitality now carried subtle signs of body cultivation. The changes were tiny. To an ordinary disciple, they would appear exactly like the results of someone who had practiced basic body tempering techniques for a day.

Lin Mu smiled. "Good."

He removed the talismans. Morning light was beginning to appear outside. Lin Mu left the cave and looked toward the Wild Peak. "Hopefully High Elder Shatter Peak is back."

He crouched and then leaped. Lin Mu moved through the forest, jumping between trees as he returned toward the courtyard. After everything that had happened, he finally wanted some proper instructions.

Though considering High Elder Shatter Peak and the Wild Peak, Lin Mu was beginning to suspect that proper instructions might be the rarest thing in the entire Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect.

Lin Mu returned to the courtyard after spending the entire night adjusting his body, and the first thing he did was look around for any familiar faces.

The courtyard was considerably livelier compared to when he had left, with several disciples moving between the buildings while a few others sat outside eating from large metal basins.

One man was carrying what looked like an entire roasted beast over his shoulder, while a muscular woman nearby was arguing with another disciple over who had broken a training pillar three days ago.

Everything seemed normal by the standards of the Wild Peak, though Lin Mu still did not see the person he was actually looking for.

"Where did that elder go now?" Lin Mu muttered to himself.

He had already spent over a day trying to find High Elder Shatter Peak, and Lin Mu was beginning to wonder if the man had some strange ability that allowed him to disappear whenever someone needed him.

Considering the temperament of the Wild Peak members, Lin Mu would not have been surprised if the High Elder simply wandered around wherever he pleased and returned whenever he became hungry.

Thankfully, Lin Mu did not need to search for long this time as a booming voice suddenly echoed from the main hall.

"OF COURSE HE’S GOOD!"

Lin Mu stopped.

The voice was unmistakable.

"Found him." Lin Mu said before turning and heading towards the main hall.

Even from outside, Lin Mu could hear several voices speaking within, though High Elder Shatter Peak’s voice easily drowned out the others whenever he raised it. Lin Mu entered through the large doors and immediately spotted the High Elder sitting near the center of the hall.

High Elder Palm Saber was there as well.

There was also a third person.

Lin Mu’s attention immediately shifted toward him.

The man sat at the head of the room upon a large stone throne. From his face alone, he appeared considerably older than the other two High Elders.

Long white hair flowed down from his head, hanging freely around his shoulders and back without ribbons, pins, crowns, or any other ornaments holding it in place. His beard was equally long, reaching almost to the middle of his chest, though it was scraggly and wild enough that Lin Mu wondered if the man had ever bothered combing it.

His face was covered in wrinkles while his eyebrows were thick and white. Judging solely by his face, the man could easily pass for an old mortal in his eighties. But his body told an entirely different story.

Lin Mu almost paused after seeing it properly.

The man was massive.

High Elder Shatter Peak had already been one of the largest humans Lin Mu had encountered. Standing at nearly two and a half meters tall with muscles that made ordinary body cultivators appear thin, the High Elder could easily intimidate most people through appearance alone.

The old man was even larger.

Despite sitting down, his head was nearly two meters above the floor. His shoulders were broad enough that three ordinary men could probably stand side by side behind him and remain hidden.

Thick muscles covered his arms, each one bulging beneath his skin like rounded boulders had been packed into his flesh. His thighs were wider than the trunks of ordinary trees, while his calves looked powerful enough to crush rocks simply by flexing.

The throne beneath him was already enormous, yet the old man filled it perfectly. Lin Mu suddenly understood why the furniture of the Wild Peak was built so large. The three men had clearly been discussing something before Lin Mu entered.
