Chapter 3889: A Place Meant For An Animal

Chapter 3889: A Place Meant For An Animal

Lin Mu calmly walked toward the back wall before sitting down against it. His breathing gradually became heavier, his shoulders sagged and he lowered his head while allowing his tattered robes to hang loosely around him.

From every outward appearance Little Bull looked completely exhausted. Even the confusion lingering upon his face seemed perfectly natural. Lin Mu patiently waited and it did not take long for Taegong to appear.

Barely half an hour later, steady footsteps echoed throughout the corridor. Taegong appeared before the prison cell. His expression remained just as calm as before, carrying the confidence of someone who believed every variable remained under his control.

He stopped directly before the barrier and without saying anything, his Immortal Sense spread outward.

Lin Mu immediately sensed the difference. Unlike his own perception earlier, Taegong’s Immortal Sense passed through the prison barrier effortlessly. The formations never resisted it. Instead, they actively accommodated it.

’Permission-based access.’ Lin Mu silently noted another detail.

’The prison arrays distinguish between authorized and unauthorized Immortal Sense.’

The distinction made perfect sense. Otherwise every inspection would require opening the prison itself. Taegong carefully examined Little Bull from head to toe. After confirming nothing appeared unusual, he gave a satisfied nod.

"So you behaved."

Little Bull slowly looked up. "Am... am I going home?"

Taegong smiled. "In a manner of speaking."

Little Bull blinked innocently. "Oh."

Taegong raised one hand and the prison formations immediately awakened. Silver runes illuminated every wall and the familiar illusionary chains emerged once again. They shot forward with astonishing speed.

Clang!

Clang!

Within moments they wrapped around Little Bull’s wrists, ankles, waist and chest. The restraints tightened and then instead of forcing him to stand, the chains lifted him directly into the air.

Little Bull found himself suspended a foot above the ground. His feet no longer touched the floor. Taegong casually opened the prison cell and the chains obediently floated Little Bull outside before the barrier closed once more behind them.

Everything proceeded smoothly, almost as if it were the man’s regular routine. Lin Mu quietly observed every formation involved. The prison clearly processed this as a perfectly legitimate prisoner transfer.

Taegong then reached into his sleeve and the familiar cube appeared once again. The Sixfold Horizon Transit Die rested upon his palm making Lin Mu’s attention immediately focus upon it.

Little Bull’s eyes widened. "What is that?"

Taegong glanced toward him and the innocent curiosity seemed entirely expected. "A treasure."

Little Bull leaned forward slightly despite the chains. "It looks funny."

Taegong simply snorted. He had already decided Little Bull possessed the mind of an unusually gifted beast. Curiosity over a strange object hardly surprised him. Lin Mu, meanwhile, barely paid attention to the conversation.

His entire focus centered upon the tiny cube.

His Spatial Perception expanded to its limit and every fluctuation surrounding the treasure became magnified within his senses. The six runes glowed faintly beneath their metallic surface and countless microscopic formation lines intertwined inside the cube.

The structure proved astonishingly compact.

Lin Mu patiently traced one section after another, only to quickly encounter another obstacle.

’Too dense.’ His Spatial Perception could reveal the general arrangement.

The finer details remained impossible to distinguish and the materials composing the treasure further complicated matters as they interfered with perception itself.

’Specialized materials...’ Lin Mu silently concluded. ’Otherwise formations could never be compressed to this extent.’

The treasure had clearly been crafted by an extraordinary master. Ordinary immortal metals would never sustain such intricate internal structures. Taegong ignored Little Bull completely now.

His attention remained upon the cube.

He gently rotated it several times before tapping one particular face.

SHUA

The corresponding rune immediately lit up and a subtle wave of Spatial Qi spread through the corridor.

Lin Mu’s eyes sharpened as the fluctuations felt different. ’Strange.’

Most teleportation treasures immediately established a powerful resonance with their destination. This one behaved differently. The initial fluctuations spread outward almost randomly and they lacked direction.

It was almost as though the destination did not yet exist.

’Interesting.’ Lin Mu carefully observed every change. ’No predetermined anchor.’

The realization surprised him. Nearly every teleportation artifact he had encountered relied upon fixed coordinates. This treasure appeared considerably more flexible. Taegong then closed his eyes while his Immortal Sense flowed directly into the glowing rune.

In the next moment, everything changed. The previously chaotic Spatial Fluctuations suddenly aligned as order emerged from disorder and the fluctuations became considerably stronger.

They converged toward a single point somewhere beyond ordinary perception.

Lin Mu immediately understood. ’The destination is chosen manually.’

The treasure itself merely provided the framework but its user selected the endpoint during activation. It was an elegant design and far more versatile than ordinary teleportation arrays. Lin Mu’s Spatial Perception continued following every movement.

Eventually, a tiny black point appeared before the glowing cube. It resembled little more than a grain of dust. The surrounding space gradually folded inward toward it as the point steadily expanded and formation lines emerged around its edges.

They intertwined with the cube’s runes before extending deeper into empty space.

’A teleportation channel...’ Lin Mu watched attentively.

The process progressed surprisingly slowly. Almost an entire minute passed before the channel fully stabilized. Apparently rapid activation sacrificed stability. Or perhaps conserving power required additional preparation.

Whatever the reason was, the finished result still impressed him.

The tiny cube slowly floated upward.

Then...

KACHIK!

It separated.

The single cube divided into six perfectly equal square plates. Each retained one of the original runes and the six floating plates arranged themselves into a rectangular frame. Lines of brilliant Spatial Qi connected each corner while the empty center gradually distorted.

Ripples spread outward.

HUMM

A moment later, a fully formed portal appeared. Its interior resembled a calm silver lake while spatial waves gently flowed across its surface.

Taegong looked toward Little Bull. "Don’t worry."

His smile carried open mockery. "The place you’re going..." He slowly chuckled. "...is perfectly suited for animals like you."

Little Bull merely stared blankly. "What place?"

Taegong never answered.
