Mesmerizing Ghost Doctor

Chapter 4898: Follow

Chapter 4898: Follow

Yue’er’s eyes darted about, about to speak, when his voice reached her.

“Tell me your real name. Don’t try to fool me.”

“I’m a descendant of the Xiao family’s collateral line! I just wandered here out of curiosity. With all these barriers and formations, how could anyone outside the Xiao family possibly get in?” Yue’er said with a smile.

Hearing this, he frowned, fixing his gaze on her. “You’re not.”

“You’ve never seen me before—how can you be so sure? With so many children in the Xiao family’s branches, have you met them all?” Yue’er gave a light, crisp snort.

“That dagger of yours is no ordinary weapon. It doesn’t belong to the Xiao family.” Xiao Junyan stared at the chubby little fox-like child in his arms, his voice cold. “You’d better tell me the truth. Otherwise, once we return to the Xiao family, no one will be able to save you.”

Yue’er’s eyes darted about. “Give me back my dagger, and I’ll tell you.”

Xiao Junyan stared at her but didn’t retrieve the dagger. Instead, he said, “Fine. If you won’t tell me, then you’ll just have to stay by my side.”

Seeing his stubborn nature, Yue’er wanted to clench her tiny fist and punch him square in the eye. But while she had the desire, she lacked the courage. After all, she was on his turf now.

“Junyan, my father sent me to help you search for that Sacred Beast. Have you encountered it? Or found any clues?” Xiao Junheng, having tended to his wounds, approached and found the two staring each other down. He couldn’t help but find it peculiar.

“No.”

Xiao Junyan replied, cradling the little doll in his arms. He turned to Junheng and asked, “Did you lose your communication jade token? If so, you should return first. I can manage on my own.”

Seeing this, Xiao Junheng offered a gentle smile. “Though my strength doesn’t match yours, I can still assist where possible. Besides, you’re facing a Sacred Beast. Father sent me here—if I returned alone, I doubt I could explain myself to him.”

His voice trailed off as his gaze fell upon the little girl in Xiao Junyan’s arms. “Besides, you’ve brought such a young child into this. If we really encounter a Sacred Beast, what will become of her? I should stay and help you! And I’ve already sent word back, asking Father to send someone to retrieve the child. It’s far too dangerous here.”

Hearing this, Xiao Junyan frowned, glanced at the little one in his arms, and said without further comment, “Let’s go.”

“Young Master, may we… may we accompany you?” The two youths cautiously followed and asked. Such a rare opportunity to draw close to the Young Master was one they truly didn’t want to miss.

After all, the Young Master would eventually select a personal guard from within the clan. If they could catch his eye, perhaps they could serve by his side in the future.

For members of a collateral branch like them, becoming the Young Master’s confidant would be an immense honor.

Xiao Junyan glanced at them, seemed to ponder something, then nodded. He continued forward, cradling the small figure in his arms.

Thus, a small group formed on the spur of the moment, with Xiao Junyan at its center.

By evening, Yue’er called out, “I’m hungry.”

“Hungry? We have Fasting Pill.” Xiao Junheng said, retrieving a medicine bottle from his spatial storage.

“She won’t eat those,” Xiao Junyan replied, turning to the two accompanying youths. “You two—gather branches, start a fire, and hunt for game.”
