Chapter 1327: HURTS MORE
THE sudden ultimatum shocked Luo Yan. He knew his father was running high on emotion right now and probably wasn't thinking straight. His father had always been overprotective of him. Not that he loved him more than his brothers, but he was just extra careful with Luo Yan. And Luo Yan knew it all came from those seven years he spent in a coma. So of course his father would react differently to finding out he was in a relationship. Especially with another man.
No matter how much he had liked Shen Ji Yun before, right now his father only saw someone taking advantage of his son. In fact, whoever was standing in Shen Ji Yun's place at this moment would probably be seen the same way.
"Dad—!"
Shen Ji Yun reached out and gently held Luo Yan's elbow, stopping him. Luo Yan turned to look at him. Shen Ji Yun gave a small shake of his head, a silent signal he would handle this. Luo Yan pressed his lips together and stayed quiet.
"I don't know what kind of explanation you want from me, Uncle Wei Tian," Shen Ji Yun began, holding the older man's gaze without flinching. "But I can tell you this much. I didn't plan any of this. I'm not good with emotions. I never have been. It took me a long time, longer than it should have, to even understand what I was feeling for Yan Yan."
He paused, his voice dropping lower. "And when I finally understood, I was just happy to be around him. That was enough for me. Just being near him, seeing him smile, hearing him laugh. I needed nothing else."
He swallowed hard before continuing. "But I got greedy. I wanted more. So I told him how I felt. I didn't expect him to feel the same. I just wanted him to know. That was all. And when he told me he loved me too, I couldn't believe it. It felt like a miracle. Like something I didn't deserve but was freely given to me, anyway."
He looked at Luo Yan for a moment, then turned back to his father. "So if you tell us to separate, I won't agree. I'll fight for this. For him. I hope you can see that I'm serious. That I truly love your son. With everything I have. More than anything."
He bowed his head low. "I hope Uncle Wei Tian will give us his blessing."
Luo Wei Tian stared at the top of Shen Ji Yun's head, his gaze so sharp it looked like he wanted to drill a hole right through it. No matter how much sincerity Shen Ji Yun had poured into his words, right now, Luo Wei Tian couldn't get past his anger. He knew, deep down, that he was being unreasonable. That his emotions were getting the better of him. But could anyone really blame him?
His son, the one he had almost lost, had been in a relationship for an entire year without him knowing. With a man. And he had to find out by walking in on them about to kiss outside the gate of his brother-in-law's house. Any father would be angry. Any father would feel betrayed. He wasn't wrong for feeling this way. At least, that was what he kept telling himself.
But Luo Wei Tian also knew he wasn't in the right headspace to listen to anything Shen Ji Yun had to say. No matter what the young man told him, it would just sound like an excuse. He would pick it apart and find something wrong with it. As the older one here, he should be the voice of reason. But the way things were going, there was no reason left in his head.
He took a deep breath and stared at the ceiling, trying to get his anger under control. After a long moment, he made a decision.
"Go home," he finally said. "We won't have a proper conversation while I'm feeling like this. There's no point to it. So just go."
"Uncle--"
"Go. Home."
Shen Ji Yun stared at Uncle Wei Tian. The older man's face was tense, his jaw tight, his eyes dark with barely contained anger. He looked like he was holding himself back from saying or doing something he might regret. Shen Ji Yun understood. There was no point in pushing further tonight. Not when Uncle Wei Tian was like this.
He gave a slow nod. "I understand."
He turned to Luo Yan. His boyfriend was watching him with worry clear on his face. Shen Ji Yun gave him a small smile and mouthed, 'call you later'. Luo Yan nodded, offering a smile of his own. It was shaky, like he was trying hard to look reassuring. Like he wanted Shen Ji Yun to believe that everything would be okay.
He hoped that was true. He gave one last smile, then turned and walked out of the study.
Luo Yan watched Shen Ji Yun leave. When the door clicked shut, he turned back to his father. The other still looked like he was barely keeping his anger in check. Luo Yan walked over and wrapped his arms around him.
"I'm sorry, Dad. We shouldn't have kept this from you. I'm sorry I wasn't brave enough to tell you sooner. I'm sorry you had to find out this way." Luo Yan tightened his arms around his father. "But please believe me, we meant no disrespect. It's just... it's scary. Telling your parents something like this, not knowing how they'll react. Not knowing if they'll still look at you the same way after. I kept putting it off, thinking there would be a better time. And then time just kept passing. I'm so sorry."
Luo Wei Tian looked down at his son, fighting the urge to hug him. He sighed, then gently pulled away. "Do you really think I wouldn't accept you simply because your partner is a man? That doesn't matter to me. That's not even why I'm angry. I'm angry that you kept this from me for an entire year. I trusted Ji Yun. I trusted him to look after you as a friend, and now I find out the two of you are in a relationship? It's the secrecy, the betrayal, that hurts more than you can imagine."
