Chapter 3380: Demon Record (3)

Chapter 3380: Demon Record (3)

All demons had their own unique skills. Some were swift and agile, while others possessed immense strength. They sought jobs based on their particular traits.

In truth, demons had infiltrated nearly all professions there were.

In short, they were all struggling to survive.

Unlike humans, demons did not receive systematic education. A small number of them learned human knowledge and were even able to venture into business or politics, but they were rare exceptions. Most demons were too wild and untameable and only suited for simple tasks.

As for Yuan Liang, the eagle, he was a webcoming artist, albeit one who barely scraped by. Extremely barely. Still, he could be considered someone working with words.

When it came to drawing webcomics, Ning Shu could only scratch her head.

It was all so complicated.

Drawing eyes, hair, body proportions, the differences between male and female physiques, and the nuances of age—it was a lot. And inking, screentoning, shading… what on earth was all that?

Ning Shu read loads of webcomics in her spare time. She spent over all sorts of tutorials repeatedly and practised nonstop on the drawing tablet. She continued sketching based on the outline Yuan Liang had left behind.

However, all her characters looked a bit stiff. It hurt her hands, her brain, and her eyes. She even had haemorrhoids.

If she pushed on any further, she felt she’d go bald.

After much struggle, she finally finished one chapter of the webcomic, and then got ready to go out and buy some groceries.

She needed food that would keep her full for longer, as there wasn’t much money left in her bank account.

Rent was due soon, too.

And that tiny apartment of hers didn’t come cheap.

But she must hang in there!

She decided to try her hand at drawing four-panel gag comics for Weibo—something simpler.

Maybe she could build up a bit of popularity.

Four-panel comics wouldn’t take much time, either.

The pressure to survive was real.

When she wasn’t drawing comics, she played games. Once she got familiar with the game mechanics, she could even level up accounts for others in exchange for money.

Or she could grind for gear and gold to sell.

Either way, this was how she scraped by. Most of her money went on buying meat.

Ning Shu began wondering if she needed to find a new path altogether.

Were all demons this gluttonous?

She really wanted a proper iron rice bowl—a secure job with benefits, ideally one that also provided meals.

Unfortunately, no such job opening was within her reach, and Yuan Liang had been a complete recluse who barely interacted with anyone.

Even communicating with others for work was a problem for him.

After being alone for so long, it felt like he’d forgotten how to talk to people.

It was no surprise Yuan Liang had fallen for An Yujun when she appeared in his life. Falling in love with the warmth of companionship wasn’t strange or wrong.

During the day, Ning Shu worked on her webcomic, and at night, she cultivated by drawing formations to harness the power of starlight.

But starlight was limited and somewhat complex, so her progress was very slow.

Still, Ning Shu discovered something: she had unlocked a new skill.

She could dehydrate vegetables and turn them into dried food.

If her freshly washed clothes weren’t dry yet and she needed to wear them urgently, she could just dehydrate them on the spot. It was utterly amazing.

She was essentially vaporising the moisture into gas.

Water existed in many forms.

Hmm, maybe she’d never have to wait for her clothes to dry again.

Ordinance power really could improve one’s quality of life.

Judging from her ability to dehydrate both clothes and vegetables, was it possible that one day, she could evaporate the water inside a human body too? Wouldn’t that kill them?

That would be a deadly move indeed.

Water could also kill on a large scale—flash floods could wipe out mountains and the like.

It was basically a map-wide nuke of a skill.

There were likely many more abilities tied to the ordinance of water, just waiting for her to unlock them.

How wonderful!

Water could be as hard as steel, capable of destroying anything, and also as gentle as spring rain, nurturing all life.

Ning Shu didn’t think her ordinance of water was weak at all.

It could be used offensively, defensively, and even cutely.

As expected, one’s own powers were always the best.

Ning Shu hummed a little tune as she wandered through the supermarket, shopping for supplies.

At the counter that sold fresh pork, the guy hacking at a pork leg bone was clearly a demon too.

He was tall and burly. He was chopping bones with a thick cleaver at the counter.

Definitely a strength-based demon.

“Here you go. Since we’re the same kind, I’ve given you a generous portion,” the big demon said as he packed up the meat and tossed the bag to Ning Shu.

Ning Shu caught it and said, “If we’re the same kind, why not give me a little extra?”

The amount was just enough, and he was acting all proud?

The big guy snorted. “A full portion is already generous. Humans get shorted all the time. You’re paying the same price, and you’re getting more than them. Be satisfied, yeah?”

Ning Shu squinted at him. “You’re learning all the bad habits from humans.”

“I’m just a worker. The supermarket boss is the one who wants us to short the weight. What can I do? I’m just a grunt,” the big demon said indifferently.

Ning Shu lifted the bag and sniffed it. “This meat’s fresh, right?”

“Of course it is. I wouldn’t give you the old stuff. That lot over there’s from a week ago. It’s what we sell to the humans,” he said, pointing to another fridge.

Ning Shu: “…Is that really okay?”

“Why not? Humans hurt their own kind all the time. What’s it got to do with us?” the big guy replied casually.

After all, plenty of humans were willing to poison their own for money, with additives, gutter oil, toxic milk powder…

All just for a bit of profit.

Ning Shu smiled sweetly at him. “I’ll come to you again next time.”

The big guy grinned back. The flesh on his face wobbled. It gave him a rather menacing look.

With the meat in hand, Ning Shu also picked up some fruit.

Damn. So expensive!

Her liver ached.

She lugged her big haul home.

Her entrustor’s rented apartment was tucked away in a tiny alleyway.

As she walked, she heard hurried footsteps heading her way. It was already dusk, and the streetlamps cast a faint yellow glow. Coupled with those frantic footsteps…

Ning Shu thought to herself, ‘Here we go.’

She stopped and ducked into hiding.

She had no intention of saving An Yujun. Even if she did, it wouldn’t end well for her.

She wasn’t going to get involved.

She twitched her ears. The footsteps drew nearer.

She could hear ragged breathing and someone angrily shouting, “Stop!”

Ning Shu sensed a powerful demonic energy approaching, stirring up a primal urge inside her.

She peeked out and saw a heavily pregnant woman running at full tilt.

She was dashing through the narrow alleyway when her foot landed in a pothole. It sent her sprawling to the ground.

But she immediately got up and kept running—as if nothing had happened. Her big belly bounced with every step.

There was not a scratch on her.

Ning Shu: …

Those babies in her belly sure were tough.

A massive spider suddenly leapt in front of the woman. She shrieked and fell back onto the ground.

Her belly bounced twice more.

The woman stared in horror at the spider. It was the size of a desk.

It had a human face, an enormous abdomen, and multiple hairy legs. Every bristle on them was clearly visible.

It was a truly grotesque and terrifying demon.

As she was blocked by the spider in front and pursued by other demons behind, An Yujun clutched her belly in terror. She didn’t know what to do.

All she’d done was have a steamy dream… and then she’d somehow ended up pregnant.
