Chapter 3386: Demon Record (9)
In human reckoning, the little girl had at least the mental capability of a first-grader student.
She was just still small in size, as she was still in her mother’s womb.
The little girl probably knew her father was a real badass, so she always acted like a proud, haughty little princess.
But her father was the badass, not her. What was she so cocky about?
Ning Shu could snuff her out in an instant if she wanted.
She wasn’t her father. She wouldn’t coddle her and treat her like a treasure.
What gave her the idea that everyone in the world was her parent and should indulge her every whim?
Some people might be polite to her to show respect for her father, but that didn’t mean everyone had to do so.
Didn’t all that being hunted teach this haughty little princess any lessons?
Ning Shu touched her face. Did she really look like such a pushover, who was so easy to bully?
An Yujun and her two children had no standing, no reason, to demand anything from her.
The little girl was always left speechless by Ning Shu’s remarks, and An Yujun would constantly apologize on her daughter’s behalf.
Ning Shu didn’t care. That girl wasn’t her daughter, anyway. What the little girl grew up to be was none of her concern.
An Yujun spent her days either doing housework or cooking, and by evening she was so tired she’d collapse on the sofa and not want to move an inch.
The little girl would feel sorry for her mommy and say Ning Shu had no gentlemanly manners.
The little boy would occasionally chime in by saying things like, “That eagle is our natural enemy. You shouldn’t always argue with him. Otherwise, the two of us and Mommy will all be in great danger.
“Anyhow, once Father finds us, this life of hiding and running we’re experiencing will be over.”
“Natural enemy! No wonder I always found him irritating. How annoying,” the little girl muttered.
“Mommy, that eagle kept us here. Maybe he’s waiting for us to be born so he can devour me and my sister. That’s a real possibility,” the little boy said.
An Yujun was immediately thrown into confusion. She didn’t know what to do. “How could that be?”
“Don’t underestimate any demon. Father is the snake king, a great demon. My sister and I have inherited his power and legacy. We understand how demons prey on each other.”
The little boy spoke with forced maturity, but his voice was still soft and childish.
The contrast was striking.
An Yujun was frightened by her son’s words. “Should I leave here, then?”
“Mommy, but we can’t leave. There are so many demons outside,” the little girl said.
An Yujun, who was trapped between a rock and a hard place, was completely at a loss. She said, “How can Mom protect you?”
“Maybe we should stay here. If that blind eagle really has ulterior motives, we’ll buy time. Father will find us eventually, and then we’ll be safe,” the little boy suggested.
An Yujun’s body trembled slightly. She nodded firmly. “Okay, I’ll listen to you. Mom will definitely protect you.”
After that, An Yujun obediently cleaned, washed clothes, and cooked, but didn’t dare to approach Ning Shu unnecessarily.
Ning Shu just raised an eyebrow. So An Yujun was this wary of her now.
Even the usually noisy little girl had fallen silent.
Ning Shu didn’t care. The combined combat power of this mother and her two kids was no match for hers, anyway.
They feared her but didn’t dare leave, because outside, a horde of demons wanted to tear them apart.
Ning Shu almost felt sorry for their miserable situation.
This was the misery of lacking strength.
Even if she had a man who could defy heaven and earth and pierce the skies, he wouldn’t exactly be able to tie her to his belt and carry her around everywhere.
Even tigers had to take naps. One moment of carelessness, and damn, his woman and kids were in trouble again. He’d have to constantly put out fires, just like a firefighter.
And the stronger he was, the more powerful his enemies would be.
The dangers the woman faced would only grow greater as well.
So, there was truly no such thing as a free lunch in this world.
Ning Shu drank her meat broth and asked An Yujun, “When are you do?”
Come to think of it, when did snake demons lay their eggs anyway? Did they follow reptilian gestation period or the human ten-month pregnancy?
Ning Shu had only asked casually, but An Yujun’s face instantly turned deathly pale, and she was instantly filled with panic.
“I’m still early, very early,” An Yujun said.
Ning Shu gave an indifferent ‘mm.’ She’d just asked one question, and that alone had already scared her that much? It seemed like she really was quite terrifying.
Ning Shu released her spiritual consciousness and slowly inspected An Yujun’s womb.
Inside her womb were two eggs, quite large, about the size of ostrich eggs.
Through the eggshells, she could see shimmering shadows swimming inside—probably the two little snakes.
Ning Shu poked at the two eggs, startling the little snakes inside.
Ning Shu tsked and withdrew her spiritual consciousness.
These little brats. A simple poke scared them this much? Weren’t they acting all high and mighty before?
An Yujun felt some discomfort in her belly and rubbed it, but the sensation passed quickly.
“If you think I have ill intentions toward you, you are free to leave,” Ning Shu said coolly.
“I did a good deed, and now I’m being treated like a villain. You’re uncomfortable, and you’re making me uncomfortable as well. Let’s not make things hard for ourselves. If you want to leave, then leave. I absolutely will not stop you.”
An Yujun immediately waved her hands and said anxiously, “I never said you were a bad person.”
She lowered her head and continued eating. She didn’t mention the matter again.
That night, the mother and children held their usual meeting.
The little boy stated directly, “The blind eagle is using a tactic of advancing by retreating. He knows we can’t leave, so he’s using this method.”
The little girl said, “Mommy, my brother and I want to be born a little later. Although we don’t know what that blind eagle is planning, since he hasn’t made a move now, he’s definitely waiting for us to ‘ripen and fall from the stem.
“Mommy, your body contains the demon power Father left behind. Once we absorb all that demon power, it will be time for us to be born. By then, our strength will be greater than it is now.
“This way, we can buy more time.”
An Yujun’s mind was in turmoil. Her son had a good head on his shoulders, so of course she listened to him. “Okay, then you’ll be born later.”
The little girl said, “But it will be hard on Mommy.”
“It’s fine,” An Yujun said. She felt that it was actually quite easy. Being pregnant with them didn’t feel like much at all, unlike a normal human pregnancy.
No matter how she moved around, nothing happened.
So, Ning Shu watched as An Yujun’s belly grew larger and larger, even though she showed no sign of labor whatsoever.
A snake’s gestation period wasn’t this long.
Looked like she was trying to give birth to a Nezha[^1: Nezha is a deity from Chinese mythology, who is famous for being born after an unusually long gestation period of three years and six months.].
Another possibility was that the two children didn’t want to come out.
They saw her as a threat and thought she might eat them once they hatched.
Ning Shu smacked her lips. She suddenly wondered what snake meat soup would taste like.
An Yujun was carrying a dish out when she saw Ning Shu staring at her belly and smacking her lips. She was terrified.
She quickly put down the plate and ran back into the kitchen.
As she ran, her belly bounced up and down, looking like it was about to fall off any moment. Ning Shu’s heart leaped into her throat just watching.
When An Yujun brought out a plate of leafy greens, Ning Shu added, “If the eggs are too big, you might not be able to deliver them. If the little snakes hatch inside you, their eggshells will remain in your body. That could cause an extremely dangerous postpartum period for you.”
