Chapter 3398: Demon Record (21)
The snake king flicked its red, forked tongue. He said, “Listen to me, you moronic eagle. Almost no monster makes it out of the Special Investigation Bureau alive, and you won’t be the exception.
“Drop the barrier, and I’ll take you with me to the demon realm.
“What happened before was a misunderstanding. I thought you were mistreating my woman and children. I’ll make it up to you…”
It was a rare moment of submission in the snake king’s life.
The bureau chief watched Ning Shu in silence. “If we can cooperate, we should. Let’s not fight amongst ourselves.”
Ning Shu understood what the chief meant, but she was also internally resistant to the idea of going to the Special Investigation Bureau.
It was a nagging feeling she couldn’t shake.
Besids, the snake king wasn’t necessarily lying, either. He was trying to win her over right now, and even if his words were only half-true, it still proved that the Special Investigation Bureau was dangerous ground for monsters.
Furthermore, Ning Shu currently was the embodiment of an ordinance, and its imprint could be stripped away. She couldn’t guarantee that no one would covet her imprint.
After all, possessing the imprint meant not only being the embodiment of the ordinance, but also receiving the city of that ordinance city. It was essentially passive income. She could make money while lying down.
And since there were no rules against such plunder, Ning Shu had to remain sufficiently vigilant.
It would be one thing if they didn’t know her identity. But if they did—and were specifically coming for her—that would be a total screw-up.
The snake king stared at Ning Shu with vertical pupils. “Every word I say is true. Humans envy our lifespans. They constantly study our genes, and many monsters have died because of it.”
Ning Shu patted her chest in mock fear, but accidentally hit her wound. She hissed in pain. “Ouch. That’s terrifying.”
“Sister, I’m here!”
A young man appeared at the doorway. He strolled in slowly, glanced at the messy living room, and walked over to the bureau chief. “Why did you call me back in such a rush?”
He was very young—too young to really be called a man. ‘Boy’ seemed more appropriate. He looked about 22 or 23, and radiated youthful vitality. He was dressed in sharp, clean clothes, and he looked at the bureau chief with eyes full of adoration.
Ning Shu: Forbidden love?
The boy called the chief ‘sis.’ Was that a polite title, or were they actually related?
Not that it was any of her business.
She was more concerned about how this boy’s arrival would shift the tide of battle.
The bureau chief introduced him to Ning Shu. “This is Nangong. He is a genius exorcist from the Nangong family.”
Ning Shu let out a soft ‘oh.’ She felt the chief was giving her a warning.
“The snake demon stole the Bureau’s demon king core. You know how important that thing is. Go get him, Nangong. Sister believes in you,” the chief said gently to the boy.
Go, Pikachu!
The boy’s eyes lit up, and his spirit seemed to soar. “Yes! Just wait, I’ll skin that snake and get the demon king core back for you.”
He looked like he was desperate to perform a task for his beloved, solely to please her.
The bureau chief nodded.
The snake king was about to explode with rage. A brat who hadn’t even grown all his hair yet wanted to skin him? He didn’t know his own weight!
The snake king spat venom at the charging Nangong and swept his tail towards him.
Young Genius Nangong dodged the venom and pulled out a rope. The rope was entirely golden yellow. He whipped it at the snake king, and it coiled around the snake’s body.
It bound An Yujun along with him.
The snake king struggled violently, trying to break the bonds, but he couldn’t shake off the rope immediately. He furrowed his eyebrows tightly. What the hell was this thing?
Young Genius Nangong said with high spirits, “Monster, this is the Nangong family heirloom. It’s a demon-binding rope, made specifically for tying up your kind.”
“Alright, stop playing around,” the bureau chief told Nangong.
“Yes, Ma’am!” Nangong gave a mock military salute, looking energetic and mischievous.
Nangong pulled out a dagger. It looked like he intended to skin the snake king right then and there.
“Sis, you’ve never used a bag made of snake king skin, right? I’ll skin him in a minute and make you a handbag.” Nangong twirled the dagger as he spoke to the chief.
The bureau chief looked a bit serious and said, “Don’t get careless.”
The snake king: …
The snake king was usually a lawless, unruly figure who stood above all else. However, today, someone wanted to skin him to make a purse. He struggled hard against the rope, but for the moment, he couldn’t break free. He watched the kid carelessly waving the dagger over his body.
The snake king sneered. When he was roaming the world unhindered, this brat was still drinking milk. Did they really think a single rope could hold him? They were underestimating him.
An Yujun was trembling with fear. She burst into tears and begged Nangong, “Why can’t you just let him go? Let us go.”
“Huh? You’re human, aren’t you? Why are you speaking up for a monster?” Nangong asked bluntly. “Don’t you know that if the Special Investigation Bureau didn’t intimidate the monsters, they’d be killing people at will in human territory? You’d be reincarnated by now.”
“To think you’re pleading for a monster… Are you even human? Your birth determined your side, yet your brain is so crippled you’re begging for a monster. Dumbass.”
This young genius boy was truly a choking straight-talker. After he finished speaking, he even fished for praise from the bureau chief.
“Sis, was I right?”
An Yujun was dumbfounded by Young Genius Nangong’s words. Presumably, she had never been spoken to like that before, and she just cried.
The bureau chief shook her head at Nangong and said, “Stop being mischievous. Hurry up and get the demon king core.”
Nangong held the dagger. It was very sharp. He sliced right through the snake king’s skin, and blood splattered out from the wound.
“Daddy!” The two little snakes cried out in panic.
“There are two little snakes, too.” Young Genius Nangong didn’t have a shred of mercy for monsters. He grabbed the two small snakes. “Sis, look! These two are a matching black and white set.”
Ning Shu: …
What was up with this guy, who had suddenly popped up out of nowhere? He looked like an expert demon hunter. She would have to be vigilant later.
Nangong played with the two snakes, tying them into knots or pulling on their bodies to stretch them out.
“Daddy, save me! Save us…”
The two little snakes cried painfully to the snake king for help.
Nangong gave a bright, cheerful laugh, like a sunny young boy. Then, holding the dagger, he stabbed it straight into the little black snake’s head, piercing right through its skull.
The little black snake’s body curled and struggled as the dagger pierced its head. Nangong grabbed the snake’s head, held the dagger steady, and ripped it hard. The little black body in his hand was torn in two.
Fresh white meat was exposed.
Nangong dismembered the little white snake as well, then turned to the bureau chief. “These little snakes are definitely fresh. Let’s take them back and roast them.”
Nangong spoke so casually, as if he were just commenting on the nice weather.
