Chapter 3401: Demon Record (24)
No matter how An Yujun begged, Nangong remained unmoved.
Every time An Yujun spoke a sentence, Nangong fired another shot at the snake king. He eventually scared her into silence.
An Yujun thought Nangong was a psychopath.
Nangong, on the other hand, thought a woman like An Yujun was a total freak. She seemed to have absolutely no moral compass.
By comparison, Nangong felt his own sis was just cool as hell.
Seeing this, Ning Shu silently took another step back. She was made of flesh and blood. She couldn’t take a bullet.
With hands clasped behind her back, the bureau chief walked over to Ning Shu.
“Miss, is there a problem?” Ning Shu asked.
The bureau chief looked at her. “I see you are a talent worth molding. Come work at the Special Investigation Bureau. Room and board are included. Demons have big appetites, but the Bureau will keep you full. How about it?
“Even if you don’t think of yourself, you should think of your entrustor.”
Ning Shu replied, “Uh, I need time to consider it.”
“Consider what? Would I scam you?” The bureau chief leaned against the window, with arms crossed over her chest, looking completely at ease. Every movement she made was filled with charm.
Her long legs looked particularly good wrapped in leather pants.
Ning Shu adjusted her glasses and said, “Actually, yes, I am afraid you’ll scam me.”
The snake king was her cautionary tale. Right now, his body was already riddled with dozens of holes.
Exorcist Nangong was treating this like a game.
Ning Shu felt Nangong was trying to scare her—threaten her.
With an unchanged expression, Ning Shu said to the bureau chief, “Your illusion arts are quite good.”
She had fooled everyone.
“Every task-taker has their own survival skills,” the bureau chief said indifferently.
After eating who-knows-how-many bullets, the snake king finally died. His body was densely covered in bullet holes.
And they were very neat, arranged in rows—clearly Young Genius Nangong’s twisted sense of humor.
An Yujun was completely catatonic. Her children had died. After being hunted by demons and enduring the pain of eggshells remaining in her body, the children she had struggled so hard to give birth to were killed.
And after the children died, her baby daddy died too. A massive snake now lay beside her.
An Yujun looked as if she had been struck by lightning. Her lips trembled, and her eyes glazed over.
Nangong retracted his demon-binding rope and saluted the bureau chief. “Sis, mission accomplished!”
The bureau chief walked to the side and said to Nangong, “Good boy. Tie him up too and take him back to the Bureau to file a record.”
“Ay, ay!” Nangong said crisply.
Ning Shu: …
They wanted to bundle her up too?
The demon-binding rope shot toward Ning Shu, aiming to coil around her.
Ning Shu wasn’t about to let that rope get near her. The snake king had been rendered completely defenseless once bound by it.
Out of fear of falling into the bureau chief’s illusions, Ning Shu bit down hard on her tongue.
She grabbed the rope. Nangong yanked on the other end. The two pulled back and forth, and neither of them let go.
Ning Shu figured that holding onto the demon-binding rope like this was actually the safest option.
Nangong tugged at the rope. “Let go.”
Ning Shu said, “I’d be stupid to let go.”
Nangong gave a mischievous smile. “If you like holding it, then keep holding it.”
He suddenly let go. The end of the rope he was holding whipped around, aiming to wrap itself around Ning Shu.
Ning Shu was startled. If she got tied up, she would really be at their mercy.
She pointed a finger at the rope, and it was instantly covered in a layer of ice. She had frozen the rope.
But the demon-binding rope quickly shook off the ice. An ice wall appeared in front of Ning Shu, blocking the rope.
She quickly jumped out the window and flew far from the water barrier.
Ning Shu tapped the water barrier and instantly thickened it.
“Courtesy demands reciprocity. Come out of the barrier if you can!” Ning Shu laughed loudly, transformed into a large mountain eagle, and prepared to fly away.
The Bureau chief leaned against the window frame and looked up at Ning Shu. “If you want to be wanted by the Special Investigation Bureau—wanted by the entire country—then keep running.”
“That’s pretty sinister, abusing your official power like that.”
“If you have power, why not use it? I’m telling you, if you dare to leave, wait for the National Class-A Warrant. You won’t be able to stay in the human world. Let me think, what crime should I charge you with? Rapist? Murderer? Or maybe a serial rapist and murderer?” The bureau chief looked as if she were deeply troubled by the choice.
Ning Shu: …
Ning Shu stared at the bureau chief and said, “If you’re acting like this, I have to suspect your intentions. It seems you really did come specifically for me.”
The bureau chief tapped the water curtain, and it shattered. “Let me tell you, barriers and illusions are my specialties. And let me tell you, charm arts aren’t just for seducing men.”
Ning Shu narrowed her eyes. “You are Hong Yu.”
“Slow. You only just recognized me?” The bureau chief rested her chin in her hand while looking at Ning Shu.
Ning Shu thought for a moment. Her mind raced with a hundred thoughts. Finally, she said, “What a coincidence.”
“Not a coincidence. I came specifically to find you. I have my eye on your ordinance imprint.”
Hong Yu pointed at Ning Shu’s forehead.
Ning Shu smiled. “You really are blunt. You stated your goal so directly. Are you absolutely confident you’ll accomplish it?”
“Yes, I have that confidence. I won’t hide my objective at all. I want your ordinance of water. It would be best if you gave it to me, but if you can’t, I’ll just have to rob you.”
Hong Yu spoke very plainly, as if she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. Only people of the same rank were worth getting angry at or caring about.
In Hong Yu’s mind, Ning Shu was obviously not on the same level, so taking Ning Shu’s things was only natural.
Anyone who could be compared to Ah Wan had to be capable.
Ning Shu spoke calmly. “You want to obtain the ordinance to compete with Ah Wan, right?”
She had heard from the man in qipao that Hong Yu had comprehension of very obscure ordinances.
If she obtained the water ordinance, she would have the ability to compete with Ah Wan’s fire ordinance.
Hong Yu viewed Ah Wan as a rival.
In their fight, Ning Shu had become the sacrifice, simply because she possessed the imprint of the water ordinance—exactly what Hong Yu needed.
Ning Shu rolled her eyes. “Why didn’t you go comprehend the ordinance of water before I got its imprint Now that I’ve comprehended it, you come to rob me? Can’t you be a little more decent?”
Hong Yu said, “I was comprehending it, but you, little girl, beat me to it.”
“And that’s my fault?” Ning Shu shrugged.
“Not exactly your fault. Comprehension isn’t something one can envy. However, since the imprint exists, it is something that can be seized,” Hong Yu said bluntly.
Ning Shu let out a long breath. “Do I look that weak? Even if you want to rob me, you can’t even be bothered to find a reason? You don’t even need a fig leaf?”
Hong Yu blinked. “Well, we are both worldly task-takers. I can’t be bothered to do that thing where you act like a whore but set up a memorial arch for chastity for yourself.”
Ning Shu gave a thumbs up. “You’re so direct, I don’t even know what to say.”
She could do it because she simply didn’t view Ning Shu as an equal.
