Chapter 3400: Demon Record (23)

Chapter 3400: Demon Record (23)

Ning Shu felt she might have run into an acquaintance—someone who definitely knew her, or at least someone she had met once before.

Ning Shu remained impassive. She remained locked in a standoff with the bureau chief, circling her verbally. Until she knew the other’s background, she wouldn’t make a rash move.

Especially since they were both task-takers—colleagues. They might run into each other in the future. Unless absolutely necessary, she wouldn’t let the situation turn sour. But if it did, she would have to fight to the bitter end.

The bureau chief looked at Ning Shu and smiled—a confident smile that said she held all the cards. It annoyed Ning Shu.

You smile, I smile.

Ning Shu cracked the corners of her mouth into a calm grin. Sure, let’s all smile together.

The bureau chief: …

Young Genius Nangong, meanwhile, was acting like he was on steroids. He was slaughtering the snakes in the room show off his abilities… and his muscles to the bureau chief.

After killing for a while, he actually asked, “Sis, do I look good killing them?”

The bureau chief looked at him indulgently, nodded, and said, “Yes.”

Ning Shu looked at the snake king. He was shrinking his body, trying to slip out of the bonds, but the rope remained tightly wound around him. It shrunk along with his body.

As the snake king got smaller, the rope tightened. Since An Yujun was tied up with him, the constriction squeezed her so hard she spat up blood.

The unconscious An Yujun woke up. Seeing the room full of dead snakes, she remembered her dead children. Her face instantly turned ashen, and she looked distraught.

Her children were dead.

An Yujun stared at Nangong, the genius exorcist who was trying hard to look cool and gain the bureau chief’s attention.

“You killed my children! You killed my children!” An Yujun roared at Nangong.

Nangong scratched his hair and asked in confusion, “What children? Where are there children you’re talking about?”

He looked around the room but didn’t see any kids—only piles of dead snakes.

An Yujun was so angry at this blunt boy that she spat blood again.

Ning Shu kindly explained, “The matching black and white snakes you killed—those were her children.”

Nangong paused for a moment, then laughed. “Stop joking. How can a human have babies with a monster?”

An Yujun was furious. She stared at Nangong with hatred. Nangong was truly one of a kind, to be able to enrage her to this extent.

Seeing An Yujun’s reaction, Nangong’s expression turned serious. “This is why I say women are trouble. You’re always in this petty, romantic mindset, completely ignoring the survival of your race. You even copulated with a snake—were you trying to breed more monsters?

“Sis, I don’t mean you have that mindset. You’re the most charming, boldest woman I’ve ever met. No ordinary woman compares to you.”

Nangong trampled on An Yujun, then eagerly sucked up to the bureau chief.

Ning Shu: …

What is going on? Okay, looks like I’m being force-fed dog food.

“What do you know? What does a cold-blooded person like you understand? No matter what they were, they were my children! You heartless wretch, do you understand feelings? Do you understand love? You’re just a cold-blooded executioner!” An Yujun screamed through her tears. Her voice was heart-wrenching and full of accusation.

Nangong scratched his head, looking completely baffled. He turned to the bureau chief. “What is she saying?”

“She’s saying you are a cold-blooded executioner who doesn’t understand love, romance, or true feelings,” the bureau chief said indifferently.

Nangong rolled his eyes. “So I’m an executioner. I can destroy your ‘love’ and ‘romance’ right now. What are you gonna do about it?

“Fucking moron. You enjoy the peace that others trade their lives for, and then you call them cruel? Seriously, what an idiot. Why are there so many idiots who only care about their petty little romances?”

Nangong was extremely contemptuous of An Yujun.

“Don’t talk to me about peaceful coexistence between monsters and humans. If you have the ability to make all monsters listen to you, I’ll kneel down and call you ‘Great Aunt.’ But this young master was born to kill monsters!” Nangong put his hands on his hips. He pointed a thumb at himself as he spoke his last sentence.

Ning Shu felt that Nangong’s trash-talking skills were maxed out. His ridicule was on point. She had to give it to him.

It went back to that saying, ‘There is no such thing as quiet, peaceful days; it’s just that someone else is carrying the burden for you.’

Much of peace was bought by the protection and even sacrifice of others.

Who didn’t want to live their ideal life? To marry a world-saving hero, who was also tender and wrapped around your finger…

It was difficult to balance the greater good with one’s own little family.

Ning Shu felt that people needed to broaden their horizons. Only by standing high and looking far can one realize how vast the world truly is.

An Yujun’s face was pale and green. She was dizzy with rage at Nangong.

Nangong took his dagger and stabbed it directly into the snake king’s body. It sent blood splattering.

“I am a cold-blooded executioner.” Nangong smiled at An Yujun. “You’re the kind of woman I hate the most. I like women like my Sis.”

Ning Shu glanced at the bureau chief. Hmm, Young Genius Nangong is into the mature, domineering type.

While watching, Ning Shu inched towards the window, preparing to retreat.

The snake king groaned as the dagger pierced him. He spat a mouthful of venom at Nangong. Nangong somersaulted out of the way, and the venom sizzled as it hit the floor.

The snake king flicked his tongue. “Do you really think I’m that easy to defeat? Even without the demon king core, what can you do to me?”

Nangong beamed. “I knew the snake king wouldn’t be simple, so I obviously came prepared. You know, what humans are best at is using tools.”

Nangong pulled out a gun. “This is the latest model from our research. The bullets can punch right through your scales.”

As he spoke, Nangong fired at the snake king. The bullet didn’t just pierce the snake king’s body. It hit the wall behind him and embedded itself deep inside.

Two bloody holes appeared on the snake king’s body. Blood gushed out of them.

“Are you okay? How are you?”

Seeing the snake king shot, An Yujun cried out, “Please don’t die!”

The snake king stared at Nangong while fighting his pain. “Kid, I’ll remember you. I’ll remember your Nangong family.”

Nangong nodded. “Oh, you want to seek revenge on the Nangong family? Monsters have always hated us. There are plenty of monsters looking for revenge against us. One more won’t make a difference.

“But to save us the trouble, I’m still going to kill you.”

Nangong pressed the gun against the snake king’s body and fired several shots in rapid succession—bang, bang, bang.

The bullets had immense stopping power, especially when fired at point-blank range.

“Why does it have to come to this? Why can’t you just let us go? Why won’t you let us go!?” An Yujun roared at Nangong.

He was simply a monster, for torturing them like this.

“Let him go? Once he recovers, I’ll be the one out of luck. Are you stupid? Of course I have to kill him.”

An Yujun was just an ordinary woman. First, she got dragged into the world of demons, and now this life-and-death spectacle had frightened her into a daze.
