Chapter 3431: Combustion (20)
Then, Ning Shu began listing Wu Xianrou’s strengths. “Pretty, pretty, and… pretty.”
Song Yi: …
“What else besides pretty?” Song Yi’s leg was trembling a little as he stared anxiously at his phone.
“Pretty is enough. Pretty is every strength rolled into one,” Ning Shu said bluntly.
Song Yi ignored her comment and kept dialing nonstop.
Meanwhile, Ning Shu contacted Little Nine to ask if Wu Xianrou had been on the missing plane.
Little Nine replied with just one word: ‘Yes.’
Ning Shu wiped her face. Wu Xianrou had the kind of physique you’d expect from a Conan character. Wherever she went, something would go wrong.
And yet, she always managed to come out unscathed, bouncing around full of life.
It was truly exasperating.
Although the helicopter on their end still hadn’t arrived, there was at least some good news: the plane had already landed at the airport.
But the bad news was that everyone on board had been taken hostage.
The airport alarms were blaring noisily. It was shrill and piercing.
A voice came through the broadcast system, instructing all passengers to leave the airport immediately. Non-combatants were asked to evacuate as soon as possible.
Panic spread among the crowd. Although there was some chaos, the scene remained relatively under control.
Airport staff were directing and evacuating people.
The retreat was surprisingly organized. It seemed they were no strangers to situations like this.
Song Yi pushed his way towards the airport with everything he had, and Ning Shu quickly followed behind.
The plane was already surrounded by police, but the cabin door remained shut.
Clearly, the criminals were planning to use the hostages to make demands.
“There are bombs planted on the plane now. Give us sixty million, and we’ll release the hostages,” came the voice of one of the hijackers from inside the aircraft.
Sixty million. Who was going to provide that? And how many people were even on the plane?
Song Yi’s eyes were red with anxiety, but his professional training as an operative helped him stay calm.
Rushing in recklessly wouldn’t do any good.
“Who’s in charge here? Who’s giving us the money? If you don’t pay, we’ll shoot someone. One hostage every ten minutes.”
The voice grew increasingly agitated. Then, with a hiss, the cabin door opened, and a hijacker emerged, holding a flight attendant hostage.
The flight attendant was trapped in the hijacker’s arm. She had a gun pressed to her head.
She was deathly pale, and her cheeks were bruised and purplish. Her uniform was disheveled. It was clear she’d been beaten—and possibly even worse.
Song Yi clenched his fists tightly, slipping off to the side, preparing to loop around from under the plane towards the airport entrance.
Ning Shu kept her eyes on the situation, ready to back Song Yi up at any moment.
When the hijacker saw no one responding to his demands, he flew into a rage and shouted, “No one’s paying? Then she dies!”
Without warning, he pulled the trigger and blew the flight attendant’s head open. Then he let go.
The woman collapsed out of the plane in a twisted heap. Her body spasmed uncontrollably. Her head had been completely destroyed by the bullet. Her face was no longer recognisable.
The hijacker’s action sent airport staff into a panic. Sirens wailed as police cars finally arrived at the scene.
The hijacker grabbed another hostage—and this time, it was Wu Xianrou.
Her face had gone completely pale. Thankfully, her clothing wasn’t disheveled like the flight attendant’s, indicating she hadn’t been physically harmed.
And in all likelihood, no one would dare violate someone like Wu Xianrou.
Still, she was stunned and terrified. She could feel the cold barrel of the gun pressed against her head. It sent a chill straight through her heart.
She was terrified. Horrified.
Wu Xianrou burst into tears.
She thought, ‘Help me. Someone save me…!’
She bitterly regretted coming to this place.
It had all started on her birthday—their first birthday together as a couple—and Song Yi hadn’t shown up. She’d called her father, who said Song Yi had been sent on a mission.
Wu Xianrou had thrown a tantrum, complaining that her father had deliberately given Song Yi an assignment at such a crucial time. He knew it was her birthday. Why on earth would he assign him a mission now of all times?
Political Commissar Wu, worn down by her pestering, had finally lost his patience. He said bluntly that it was a critical mission and all special forces had been mobilized. Song Yi was no exception.
The moment Wu Xianrou heard just how dangerous it was, her anxiety spiked, and she insisted on going to find Song Yi.
Political Commissar Wu felt a jolt of alarm in his heart and immediately reprimanded her for being unreasonable.
However, Wu Xianrou insisted. If the mission was so perilous, what if something happened to Song Yi? She had to go see him.
Although Political Commissar Wu doted on his daughter, he was ultimately a man of the political sphere. He understood the importance of boundaries and priorities.
He had her confined on the spot.
But Wu Xianrou still managed to escape and boarded a plane.
It seemed she couldn’t be at peace unless she’d stirred up a bit of trouble.
And the price of her recklessness was being taken hostage by terrorists.
Wu Xianrou might have a knack for cheating death, but others weren’t so lucky. That flight attendant, for instance, was raped, then shot in the head.
When Song Yi saw that Wu Xianrou had been taken hostage, he was filled with anxiety, but he had to restrain himself.
“Hurry up and pay. If you don’t, I’ll kill her!” the hijacker shouted, waving his gun threateningly.
Song Yi seized that moment of distraction. With a twist of his body, he grabbed hold of the ladder strut and leapt onto the plane, landing a powerful kick straight into the hijacker’s body.
The man was caught off guard and kicked clean off the aircraft. He crashed into the airport grounds below. Wu Xianrou screamed, clutching her head, and struggled wildly when Song Yi tried to pull her into his arms.
“It’s me—it’s me!” Song Yi said urgently.
Only then did Wu Xianrou calm down. She looked up at him. Tears immediately began to stream down her face.
Now that someone had come to save her, Wu Xianrou finally felt free to cry as loudly as she wanted.
While she’d been held hostage, she hadn’t even dared to shed a single tear. The hijackers were savage and ruthless. Anyone who cried, resisted, or even flinched would be shot without hesitation.
“Song Yi, I…” Wu Xianrou began, but before she could finish, Song Yi grabbed her and dodged a bullet, then launched himself into a fight with a hijacker who had charged at them.
Wu Xianrou screamed throughout the entire ordeal.
Even the most skilled fighter couldn’t fend off four attackers with just two fists, especially not while protecting someone like Wu Xianrou, who only slowed him down. Despite his formidable close-combat skills, Song Yi began to struggle.
One of the hijackers raised his gun and aimed it at Wu Xianrou. It was clear now. They had realized just how much Song Yi cared for and was trying to protect her.
But hijackers didn’t care about human emotion. Love, affection—none of it mattered to them.
Song Yi had just been knocked off balance. He could only watch helplessly as the bullet tore through the air, heading straight for Wu Xianrou.
And Wu Xianrou—like a stunned rabbit—didn’t even try to dodge.
Just as the bullet was about to hit her, a powerful force yanked her aside. The bullet grazed her arm and ricocheted off the plane’s glass with a clang.
Wu Xianrou was still reeling in terror. Song Yi exhaled a long, shaky breath and looked towards the person who’d pulled her away. It was Ning Shu.
Ning Shu held a gun and opened fire at the hijackers in the airport. Bullets cracked through the air. The men entangling Song Yi were swiftly shot dead.
Wu Xianrou remained in a daze until someone gave her a push out of the cabin. She stumbled on the way down and twisted her ankle. That was when she finally came back to her senses.
While clutching her ankle, she wept uncontrollably.
Never in her life had she been this dishevelled, this humiliated.
“Thank you,” Song Yi said as he fired shots while speaking to Ning Shu.
“I may not like Wu Xianrou,” Ning Shu replied. “But she’s a citizen of our country. I can’t let her die on foreign soil.”
