Chapter 2106: Unpredictable Fighting Style
"Is he dead?" Baern asked when he saw no movements coming from the place Grey crashed.
"That... that shouldn’t be possible." Kora was not optimistic that Grey would end up dead from that attack. Yes, she could tell the attack was brutal, but she felt Grey would only end up injured and not dead. How could the legendary Grey Dawson end up dead from just that attack?
"He’s not invincible, remember? That attack is enough to leave him bedridden for months. So even if he’s still alive, do you expect him to be able to stand?" The old Gnome was one of the few who didn’t feel pressured by Grey’s freakishness. He would not deny that he was afraid of him, but he also did not see him as someone they couldn’t beat.
Kora nodded, she too also believed Grey wasn’t invincible. However, it was hard to accept that the same person who she saw kill a Peak Sovereign a minute or so ago would be unable to survive that attack. Taking into account that he was first overwhelmed by multiple attacks, she started to see reason to the old Gnome’s words.
"Check on him." Kora motioned to Baern.
Baern knew she didn’t want him to go himself but to use his puppet, so he sent the puppet to inspect the site of the crash.
....
On the other side, Garth, Tate, and Cassian were in a heated brawl with their opponents.
The Gnomes were unable to overpower them as they did the first time when they had access to their puppets, now, the scenario had been reversed and it was the Gnomes who were being overpowered by their human counterparts.
The trio used the opportunity to vent all the pent up rage they had been bottling inside since the start of the fight. They were initially ganged up against by nine Gnomes and their puppets, almost losing their lives with each attack they had to block or evade. Had Grey not taken the initiative to assist them even though he was battling with Kora, they knew they might have been killed and kept to be turned into puppets in the future.
One attack after another landed on the body of the Gnomes, giving them injuries of varying degrees. The Gnomes were starting to feel like it was a mistake for them to fight the trio without their puppets. The thought of switching places with three of those fighting Grey came to their minds, and just as they were planning to execute it, they sensed the powerful attacking striking Grey.
The fact that Grey remained motionless after the first few seconds of landing gave some sense of hope to the Gnomes. Their biggest problem was Grey, if they could take him out, then the trio before them were nothing to worry about.
Just like the Gnomes, Garth, Tate, and Cassian knew Grey was the only reason they could fight against the Gnomes under such conditions. Seeing no movements from where Grey crashed, their hearts sank at the thought of Grey being seriously wounded. He was fighting against six Ninth stage Sovereigns on his own, after all, so it wasn’t without reason for them to fear for his life and death.
"Looks like Grey is dead, we can finally use our puppets again." One of the Gnomes with a grating voice spoke gleefully.
"No hurry, we better wait to confirm first." A more calm-headed Gnome warned before the Gnomes mistakenly brought out their puppets when Grey wasn’t dead yet. Doing something like that was no different from a death wish now that they knew who Grey was.
Tate was the one standing before the calm-headed Gnome, he grunted when he heard the Gnome’s statement and threw out an attack.
The calm-headed Gnome blocked the attack and said, "If he’s really dead, I’ll make you wish you were never born."
On the left bicep of the Gnome was a large cut that had stopped bleeding. The bloodied sword on Tate’s hand was as a result of their battles as well as his injuries, he wanted nothing more than to kill Tate as of right now, but he wanted to ensure he played it safe.
Tate was about to speak when he suddenly felt a suction force. He instinctively wanted to struggle when he recalled Grey’s last words before they restarted the fight and stopped in time.
Tate and Grey were close to the same height, but Grey was not burly like the former. Grey had a slim well built body, so when the figure of Tate suddenly grew thinner and odd, it caught everyone by surprise.
Grey appeared in the spot Tate was previously standing, which was before the calm-headed Gnome. He attacked immediately, not giving the Gnome any chance to properly defend himself.
The calm-headed Gnome panicked when he saw the face of Grey, using all his strength, he shielded himself with the darkness element, before also bringing out his puppet and cutting off the link on his own while also making it self-destruct as it approached Grey.
The Gnome’s reaction was fast, even faster than Grey could anticipate.
Boom! Bang!
Two explosions rang out at the same time. Grey’s attack colliding with the Gnome as well as the puppet’s self-destruction happened simultaneously.
Grey was unable to leave the range of the attack and he was swept up in the explosion.
The battlefield fell into silence when this happened. They were still trying to ascertain if Grey was still alive a second ago, yet now he had been caught up in another explosion after using a surprise attack. They could not even understand how he was able to appear there when he should still be in the pit he crashed into.
Kora had the look as if she just saw a ghost when Grey suddenly switched places with Tate. She had her senses glued to the pit Grey crashed into, so when she sensed the slight spatial fluctuations she wanted to speak, but then she noticed the figure never left that place. It was only after the attack did she see Grey on the other side.
"So who is that?" She murmured.
