Chapter 2107: Rikard’s Weakness
Tate came face to face with the puppet and sent out a palm attack before hurriedly retreating. He knew the ability Grey used, and was already prepared for what was happening on the other side.
The puppet was caught off guard and ended up getting pushed back by the palm strike.
Tate rushed over to Garth and Cassian, waiting patiently for the explosion to die down and for Grey to reappear.
Both the humans and Gnomes in the Ninth stage stopped fighting. They were all interested in confirming if Grey was dead or not.
A few minutes later the smoke from the explosion died down, giving everyone a glimpse of what transpired inside.
Two figures came to view when the explosion died down. As they watched, the smaller figure fell from the sky, crashing to the ground, motionless.
Grey stood mid-air with blood on the side of his mouth. He wiped off the blood, looking at the corpse of the Gnome with anger. He did not expect this Gnome to use his puppet in such a way once he figured out he could not escape. The Gnome’s decision was not something Grey prepared for, luckily, he had Void and the bunny leader who were secretly watching. When Void detected the puppet, he appeared at the last moment and created a defensive barrier. Void’s defensive barrier was not enough to protect Grey from the self-destruction of a Ninth stage Sovereign, but it at least gave him enough time to also set up his own defensive shield which was also breached by the explosion.
He spat out the blood in his mouth and smiled at Garth and the others, "We just have to deal with seven more."
Garth, Tate, and Cassian all smiled back at the psychopath before them. They could tell he was injured from the explosion, yet the first thing he was talking about was killing the rest of the Ninth stage Sovereign Gnomes.
The trio couldn’t help but feel grateful that they had someone like Grey among them. Thinking about the possibility of fighting an enemy that moved like Grey scared them.
"Kill!" Tate roared.
Garth and Cassian raised their clenched fists and shouted, "Kill!"
Grey nodded and flew in the direction of Kora and the other Gnomes.
Baern flew closer to Kora as Grey approached, "What do we do now?"
"Five of us will kill him, if those two can’t keep themselves alive by the time he’s dead, then it’s their fault and not ours." Kora’s reply was cold. In her eyes, all that mattered was killing Grey, especially after the death of Wilmot.
If they only lost one of two Peak Sovereigns, she would not be this resolute with her decision and might’ve even suggested they retreated. The situation, however, was completely different now. They had not only lost a Peak Sovereign, but they also lost three Ninth stage Sovereigns as well. If they left this place with such a result, then they would be punished.
The two Gnomes that were told to continue fighting against Garth, Tate, and Cassian frowned when they heard this. It was already hard to deal with them as it was, if they fought at a numerical disadvantage, they were not confident they could deal with the trio.
One of them gritted his teeth and said, "You have five minutes. Kill him within the next five minutes or we’re out."
Kora scoffed but knew the Gnome had every right to leave. This was one of the Gnomes Wilmot brought along, so they naturally had no reason to fight to the death here, it would be better if they returned and reported what transpired here.
She took the lead, striking before Grey could get to them.
Grey was unperturbed by the attack, with a simple sway of his body, he dodged the darkness beam before sending out an attack of his own.
Kora tried to block the attack, but was pushed back by the impact. The other Gnomes came to her aid at this point, each sending out attacks with Baern’s puppet trying to get into a melee fight with Grey.
Grey was a well-versed melee fighter, with the puppet taking the initiative, he did not back down. The duo traded multiple blows with attacks frequently coming from Kora and the others.
Silver scales emerged from Grey’s skin, shining brightly. With each attack that struck him, sparks flew everywhere along with some scales.
Boom! Bam! Bang!
The battle was intense. Kora and the Gnomes gave it their all, while Grey dedicated most of his time to defending himself. This was the only thing he could do against so many opponents, especially when one of them could partially make it hard for him to use his space element.
While all these happened, in the sky hundreds of kilometers away from where the battle was taking place, two beams of light shot past a small town with the speed of light. The locals didn’t even get the chance to get a glimpse of the lights, and only those who were fast enough even saw it.
Rikard was running with everything he had as General Robert chased after him. Since Grey incapacitated both him and Wilmot, he had been running for his life. It had only been a minute or so, but General Robert didn’t seem like he would let him leave freely.
"I didn’t take you for a coward, Rikard." General Robert commented as he gave chase. He was familiar with Rikard’s personality and knew he was quite easy to rile up. Seeing that his first attempt failed, he didn’t feel disheartened, he continued mocking Rikard.
Rikard’s face was completely red from rage when he heard General Robert’s taunts, he wanted nothing more than to beat him to death. Sadly, there was no way for him to achieve that since his puppet had been destroyed by the latter when he was incapacitated by Grey.
’If he didn’t have Grey Dawson by his side does he think he can match up to me?’ Rikard was irate, but he also didn’t stop to face General Robert. He was hotheaded, not foolish. Without his puppet, he knew his chances of defeating General Robert was low, and from the look he could see in the eyes of the latter, he sensed General Robert wouldn’t stop the fight until one of them were dead.
He still had a lot he wanted to achieve, so he could care less about his pride.
General Robert continued cursing at Rikard, not forgetting to curse at his entire family.
Rikard was still running away when General Robert finally struck a nerve.
"After your death your daughter will be sold as a slave to others, I wonder how she’ll end up then?"
The fleeing Rikard paused when this statement was made.
General Robert, who was chasing after him, also stopped. He knew he had finally been able to stop Rikard from running off.
"Oh, you’re upset because I told you your daughter would become a slave?" He held his mouth as if he just realized how bad what he said was, staring at Rikard, a grin appeared on his face as he continued, "I’m sure some of your friends will enjoy playing with her."
Rikard’s face was completely red at this point, General Robert’s words only succeeded in making him angrier. With a roar, he launched at General Robert.
"Hahaha, now we’re talking." General Robert wasn’t bothered with Rikard’s anger. He had seen it too often to stop caring about it. During the past months they had been fighting, he has had multiple conversations with the latter and knew he was very proud of his daughter. Although it was not a tactic he was proud of, as long as he could kill Rikard without having to sacrifice anyone else, then it was worth it.
The duo stopped above the sea, so when their attacks collided, a huge wave spread out under them.
Rikard didn’t stop after the first attack, he continued his attack as he tried to take General Robert down.
General Robert, albeit injured from the earlier attacks from Rikard and Wilmot, still had enough strength to fight to the death. He held nothing back and went all out against Wilmot. Luckily, he destroyed Rikard’s puppet when he was attacking him after Grey’s help.
Rikard was still a Peak Sovereign even without his puppet, he used his strength to clash with General Robert, disrupting the fish in the sea.
Boom!
The duo collided, attacking each other fiercely. Their figures clashed in the sky as they tried to take each other down.
General Robert didn’t forget to continue provoking Rikard, without the puppet, he was stronger than Rikard, now that he was getting him to fight in a state of rage, he was even more confident he could kill him.
Rikard knew General Robert was only provoking him, but his daughter was the only thing that could get him to fight back instead of running.
To Rikard he was ensuring his daughter was not threatened, while General Robert only saw him as a fool.
