Chapter 3221: Wingoose, Wulroc, & The Hybrid
Date: Unspecified
Time: Unspecified
Location: Myriad Realms, Dark Realm, Seven Prince of Hell Territory, Pandemonium City
The center of the Pandemonium volcano was lined with various measures by Mommon for hunting demonic beasts he lured using the Millennium Volcano Heart as bait. He was money hungry, not stupid.
The tunnels lined with massive heathen stone thorns and the extreme measures in the center of the volcano ensured that whatever was lured by the Millennium Volcano Heart would not overwhelm him with their numbers and would be swiftly taken care of as soon as they entered the center of the volcano.
That was why, instead of entering the center of the volcano, I showed my head before turning around and retreating the way I had come in, running for my life.
Yes, Mommon was a semi-ruler-class being. Combined with the extreme measures he had arranged in the center of the volcano, the threat level barely reached ruler-class level. So challenging Mommon in the center of the volcano would be difficult for me.
However, the idea was to be subtle, which would not be possible if I had to fight Mommon in the center of the volcano. I might even disturb, if not destroy, the natural ecosystem inside if I had to fight off the traps and hooks Mommon had prepared in there to capture or kill various kinds of powerful demonic beasts, affecting the natural array of the Millennium Volcano Heart.
Therefore, I had to lure Mommon out of the center of the volcano and into the congested tunnels. A primordial demonic beast believed to be extinct, and in the noble-class realm no less, it would be surprising if Mommon’s greed didn’t flare up at the sight of an opportunity to capture a one-of-a-kind live primordial specimen that could be auctioned for a fortune in the right market.
As I expected, Mommon rushed right behind me without a second thought. His tall, shelled body passed through the barrier enclosing the end of the tunnel leading into the center of the heart and waited for me before I could surface from the tunnel walls. And when I did, I was boxed in.
Behind me was the barrier, around me were the tunnel walls layered with massive thorns made from heathen stones, and before me stood the architect of the Seven Princes of Hell’s dark faction’s riches, Mommon.
He had a four-meter-tall, lean, gray-skinned humanoid body covered in a hard, thin-plated shell that looked like a volcanic rock bed. Using my soul pupil, I knew the shell was an armor he was donning and not a natural part of his body. His arms and legs were equally long. His hands had five digits, while his legs had joints at three places, with four-toed feet. Soon, I made an unsettling discovery: beneath the plated armor, except for the wings, he looked just like the slaves mining the Pandemonic mines.
Observing through my soul pupils that Mommon’s back showed underdeveloped wings that had been deliberately cut off, I realized that there was a tragic story behind why Mommon enslaved his own race, the Wingoose, to mine his mines.
According to the Myriad Realm Race Records, the Wingoose were one of the earliest dark slaves to gain their freedom and settle in the Dark Realms. They took immense pride in their wings, which were also the reason they were initially captured and bred as slaves by the Slave Traders. Once the hype around their wings died down, there was simply too much stock. Since they were too thin and had hollow bones to support flight with their wings, instead of killing them for their meager meat, the slave traders simply gave them their freedom.
Making the Wingoose one of the first few non-native races to settle in the Dark Realm. The more miraculous part was that the Wingoose race thrived in the Dark Realm, adapting to its power system and forming their own natural demon cores, title demon cores, and unholy cores.
Their success in making a place for themselves in the Dark Realm was associated with the fact that the very year the Wingoose gained their freedom, the Demon Merchant Code offered demon merchant contracts to not one or two but two dozen Wingoose. This gave them access to a bigger market where they weren’t discriminated against because of their slave history and non-native status, as long as they could pay.
These two dozen demon merchants went on to create two dozen Wingoose tribes and jointly established a guild in the inter-realm city. With the resources and knowledge from the inter-realm market, it didn’t take them long to carve out a place in the Dark Realm, even though they were surrounded by hostiles, going from ignorant slaves who had just gained their freedom to a race with an inheritance for making demon cores, title demon cores, and unholy cores tailored for their own race.
The survival and growth of the Wingoose tribe was like hope for the other slaves, who stupidly believed that if they were patient long enough, even their suffering would end and their time would come. It was like a pig believing that if it were patient enough, the butcher would not slaughter it for its meat.
However, from what I’m seeing, even the Wingoose race’s incredible luck seemed to have run out when they bullied and ostracized the wrong hybrid son and his mother.
Yep, Mommon was a hybrid between a Wingoose mother and a Wulroc father.
Wulrocs were a winged lava-fiend semi-ruler-class dark race native to the Dark Realm whose skin was petrified, appearing much like the plated armor Mommon was wearing.
Though Mommon’s body looked more like that of the Wingoose race than the Wulroc race, his Wulroc bloodline was more dominant in his body. As such, his Wingoose wings were underdeveloped. And I could observe that this body seemed to have inherited the coveted effect of the Wulroc race’s wings, Damage Burning, which caused any damage taken by their wings to burn into flames, leaving their wings unharmed. But thanks to his hybrid mutation, Mommon’s whole skin could burn off damage as explosive external flames while he remained unharmed.
