Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Long Yi once again pushed his head deep into the hole, sticking out his tongue as he went, “Bleh bleh bleh~”

He could not squeeze himself inside; his neck got stuck.

Zhang Hu, who was thinner than him, also could not get in.

He found the smallest soldier in the group, but even that man was still several sizes too large.

“All of you move aside.” Princess Xinyang said.

Everyone froze in surprise.

Princess Xinyang moved toward the edge of the hole step by step, slowly and cautiously, and she bent down to try it, but her shoulders could not fit through, missing it by just a little bit.

When Zhang Hu saw that she actually intended to go down herself, his expression changed dramatically, and he said, “Princess! You must not! It is far too dangerous! And besides, we cannot even be certain that the person down there is really Lord Marquis! You absolutely must not risk your own life!”

She straightened her body and said calmly, “Turn your backs.”

Everyone was even more confused.

Princess Xinyang lifted her hand and began loosening her own clothing.

Zhang Hu hurriedly covered his eyes, turned around, and ordered, “All of you turn around right now! Close your eyes!”

The imperial princess who would not easily lift her veil in front of others now removed her garments one layer at a time behind hundreds of soldiers.

When she had taken off everything except her thin inner garment, her delicate frame seemed as though it might be blown away by the fierce, cutting wind at any moment.

She was trembling violently from the cold, shaking uncontrollably as her teeth chattered, her entire body shuddering without pause.

Yet she did not retreat; she stared at the pitch-black opening of the hole, closed her eyes, and leapt down!

The opening of the cave was roughly as tall as a single adult, and while she was taking off her clothes, Long Yi did two things: first, he filled a large amount of snow down below, and second, each time she took off a piece of clothing, Long Yi would immediately toss that same piece down as well.

It was the kind of situation where one hand was working while the other hand was covering his own eyes, because Long Mengmeng absolutely was not a bad Dragon Shadow Guard who would secretly peek!

Princess Xinyang landed heavily on the soft pile made of clothing and snow, and although the impact was greatly cushioned so she did not fall to the point of serious injury, her skin was far too delicate, which caused her arms and legs to scrape over the uneven edges of the cave opening and suffer a large patch of abrasions.

She could not bother with the icy coldness and aching of her body, and she hurriedly climbed up to search for the person who had been gravely injured.

However, the coldness was truly unbearable, and the moment she suddenly stepped down with one foot, a dense surge of needle-like pain shot across the sole of her foot.

She sucked in a sharp breath of cold air.

Even so, she did not pause to deal with her pain, instead using the faint light from the cave entrance to look around in every direction while calling out, “Xiao Ji! Xiao Ji!”

This was a long and narrow underground cavern, with paths extending in both directions, but the deeper each path went, the darker and more pitch-black it became, so she could not see a trace of any person.

“Long Yi, which side?” She raised her head to ask him.

“Cold, put on your clothes first.” Long Yi reminded her.

Princess Xinyang said, “I am afraid we will not make it in time.”

“He is not dead yet.” Long Yi thought for a moment and added, “If he dies, I will remind you.”

Princess Xinyang: “…”

After she put on her clothes, her body did not warm up so quickly, and she still felt unbearably cold.

Only then did Long Yi say, “Your right side.”

Princess Xinyang began walking toward the right.

The terrain here was extremely complicated, and although it looked close, it was very difficult to traverse; she fell several times, scraping the skin off her knees and grinding open the skin of her palms.

She endured the pain and pushed herself back up.

There was only one firm thought in her mind: she had to find Xiao Ji.

Finally, she fell once more, but this time it was because she had been tripped by a leg.

She did not even stop to consider whether this was a person, nor whether that person was alive.

When a pampered princess of noble status touches a freezing corpse with her own hands, the shock would be unimaginable.

Her hand reached the person’s arm, and she felt blood, warm blood.

Her heart clenched tightly, and she continued upward, touching his face that was also covered in blood.

She spoke in a trembling voice, “Xiao Ji, Xiao Ji, is that you?”

He was sitting on the icy ground with his back leaning against the hard rock wall, his head drooping under unbearable weight, and his breathing short and faint.

Her hand touched his high, straight nose bridge and then brushed over his refined brow bone. “Xiao Ji, is that you?”

He did not respond.

She then followed his arm downward, feeling the hand that had held a sword for many years, the thick calluses at the web of his thumb, and the crisscrossing scars on his hand.

Was it him?

Was it really him?

Only at such an urgent moment did she realize that her understanding of him was almost pitifully shallow.

The only two nights they had shared physical intimacy were during the times when she had been drugged and not entirely clear-headed, so she knew nothing about what wounds or scars he had on his body.

He had never allowed her to see them either.

“Waist… waist injury!”

This she knew, because Chang Jing always mentioned it, saying it was an old injury of his, one that could never be completely healed.

Ah Heng had also asked JiaoJiao to examine him, and JiaoJiao said that rest was the only remedy.

“Where… where is the waist injury?”

Princess Xinyang did not understand and thought a waist injury meant someone had slashed his waist with a blade, which would surely leave a long scar.

She reached out, and in the darkness, she clumsily tried to undo his armor; she fumbled with it for a long time, and in the end she did not even know whether she had successfully unfastened it or had simply ripped it off through brute strength.

His breathing was completely overwhelmed by the thick smell of blood, so she could not detect it at all.

She could only rely on this clumsy method.

Her hand groped along his waist, yet all she felt was a sticky, blood-soaked mess beneath her fingertips.

Was he wounded here as well?

Her movements halted for a moment, and just as she was about to feel around to determine how severe the injury was, her slender wrist was suddenly gripped by a broad and powerful hand.

Immediately after that, she heard a weak and hoarse voice say, “Qin Fengwen, what are you doing?”

Princess Xinyang froze, stunned. “Xiao Ji? It really… is you?”

Her eyes reddened at once, and scorching tears immediately welled up at the corners.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
