Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
After leaving the imperial palace, Xiao Heng attempted to hand the three children over to his parents, yet the moment he turned around, his father decisively took his mother with him and headed straight toward Zhuque Street.
Xiao Heng did not even manage to catch the shadow of either of them, and as he stared at the carriage disappearing at the end of the street, he muttered in confusion, “What are they doing?”
Gu Jiao made a small sound. “Going on a honeymoon, I suppose.”
The corner of Xiao Heng’s mouth twitched, as he thought, a honeymoon delayed by twenty full years.
He looked at the three tiny children staring at him with their wide round eyes, and in that instant, he felt as though his entire life had collapsed.
He first escorted Gu Jiao and the three children back to the Princess Mansion, and after that he set out for the Marquis Ding’an Estate.
Little Jing Kong was a child who had achieved balanced development in morality, intellect, physical ability, aesthetics, and labor; not only did he consistently receive full marks in academics, but he had never allowed his martial arts training to fall behind either.
Recently, he had been following Gu Changqing for martial arts training, and although Gu Changqing did say he would send the boy home, Xiao Heng still made it a point to pick him up in person every night.
There was always a different feeling when a child had a parent coming to pick him up.
In truth, many people had taught Little Jing Kong martial arts before, including Xuanyuan Qi, Long Yi, Marquis Xuanping, Gu Changqing, Chang Jing, as well as his own master, Liao Chen.
He learned well from every single one of them without ever getting their teachings mixed up, which truly made him a child with extraordinary talent.
“Big brother, goodbye! Sister-in-law, goodbye!”
Little Jing Kong waved goodbye to Gu Changqing and Yuan Baolin at the gate of the Marquis Ding’an Estate, and Xiao Heng also expressed his thanks to the two before bringing Little Jing Kong onto the carriage.
Little Jing Kong was no longer very small; he was a nominal nine years old now, his height shooting up day by day, and he was no longer the tiny little bean who would be completely hidden behind a table the moment he sat down.
“Bad brother-in-law!” He snorted through his nose, acting extremely full of himself as he climbed onto the carriage.
Xiao Heng: The moment you open your mouth you just become not cute at all. I wonder whom on earth you had learned that from.
Little Jing Kong had long become a little tyrant of the Imperial Academy, cold, cool, and handsome, and he behaved in such a childish manner only when he was before Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng.
The carriage did not take Chang’an Street but instead headed in the direction of Xuanwu Street.
“What are you trying to do?” Little Jing Kong had a very good sense of direction, especially since the Imperial Academy was located on Xuanwu Street; he was so familiar with this area that he could tell whether the carriage was going the right way even with his eyes closed.
“This isn’t the road back to the Princess Mansion.” He cast a suspicious glance at his bad brother-in-law. “You aren’t planning to take me out in the middle of the night to sell me, are you?”
Xiao Heng found him both amusing and exasperating as he looked at him. “Yes, I am indeed going to sell you, so that you will not raise my rent ever again.”
Little Jing Kong folded his arms and lifted his chin as he snorted. “You should talk! You haven’t even paid this year’s rent yet! It has already been four months!”
Xiao Heng brushed off his wide sleeve and said calmly, “Wasn’t it offset by debt?”
Little Jing Kong’s eyes flickered. “Wha… What debt?”
“Fighting birds with someone, receiving one demerit from the Imperial Academy, and they summoned your guardian. I went.”
“Collecting protection fees, receiving a second demerit from the Imperial Academy, and they summoned your guardian again. I went.”
“Cheating on an exam, receiving a third demerit from the Imperial Academy, and again I was the one who went.”
When he reached this point, Xiao Heng gave the little fellow a sidelong glance. “We agreed on five hundred taels each time I kept it from JiaoJiao, so calculating it properly, you actually still owe me three hundred taels.”
Little Jing Kong’s arrogance immediately diminished, and he blustered, “Y-you-you’ve changed! You used to never allow me to bribe you!”
Xiao Heng refused to be led around by his nose. “So what you mean is that I should cover for you for free? Fine, then I will go and tell JiaoJiao in a moment.”
Little Jing Kong exploded like a puff of fur. “No!”
While the grown man and the small child were bickering, the carriage suddenly came to a stop.
“Little Marquis, young master, we have arrived.” The coachman said.
Xiao Heng rose to his feet. “Get out.”
Little Jing Kong followed behind him as he stepped down from the carriage.
He looked around and asked in puzzlement, “Huh? It’s so late, what are we doing at the Imperial Academy?”
“I am taking you to meet someone.” Xiao Heng said.
He led the way ahead, and Little Jing Kong reluctantly followed after him.
After entering the Imperial Academy, Xiao Heng directly took him to the teacher’s quarters used by the scholars.
At this hour, the instructors had long since gone off duty, and the entire quarters was shrouded in darkness, with only a single room seeming to be lit by an oil lamp.
The two of them arrived at the doorway, and since the door was open, they could clearly see a teacher bending over his desk as he wrote something, so focused on his work that he did not notice anyone approaching.
“Teacher Sun?” Little Jing Kong recognized the man.
Teacher Sun had once been one of the instructors of the prodigy class; later, after some personnel adjustments took place, he no longer taught that class, and Little Jing Kong rarely encountered him afterward.
Teacher Sun looked a bit more weathered compared to a few years ago, with a few strands of white hair appearing on his head, though in truth he was not old at all, being only in his early forties.
“Why did you bring me to see Teacher Sun?” Little Jing Kong asked in confusion.
Xiao Heng looked at him and said, “It is not that I brought you to see Teacher Sun, but rather that Teacher Sun wanted to see you.”
“Huh?” Little Jing Kong was even more baffled.
Teacher Sun’s eyes were sore, and when he raised his hand to rub them, he noticed that Xiao Heng and Little Jing Kong had arrived. He did not appear surprised; instead, he showed a sense of relief as though something he had been waiting for had finally come.
He smiled. “Come in.”
The two entered the room.
Only then did Little Jing Kong notice the large stack of papers on his desk, all of them filled with strange and complicated formulas. He had learned a little of this before, and he recognized that these were the mathematical formulas from JiaoJiao’s previous world; one of the national books of the State of Yan recorded quite a lot of mathematical knowledge of this kind.
“Sorry to have kept Teacher Sun waiting.” Xiao Heng said.
“It’s no trouble, no trouble at all.” Teacher Sun said hurriedly as he waved his hand. “It is already an honor that you were willing to come.”
Who would have imagined that the little crippled boy he once looked down on would one day rise to such great heights and become the Chief Grand Secretary of the current dynasty?
It was his own shortsightedness that had kept him from recognizing that Xiao Heng was the Little Marquis of Zhao who was believed to have perished in a sea of flames.
However, the accomplishments Xiao Heng achieved today were not due to his identity but because he truly was a man of immense talent and profound knowledge.
Teacher Sun did not beat around the bush, and he immediately bowed deeply toward Little Jing Kong.
This frightened Little Jing Kong so much that he froze in place.
What is going on?
Teacher, why are you suddenly bowing to me? I am very flustered!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
