Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 1004: 1001: Betrayal

Corey and Pamela stood by side with parts of their clothes ripped, and slight burns on their arms.

They both looked at Syrelle who had just attacked them, and confusion could be seen on their faces.

"Why?" Corey asked with narrowed eyes.

"Are you asking why I betrayed you? Or why I betrayed my mother, family, and people?" Syrelle asked with an indifferent expression, and Corey's eyes flickered when he heard her words.

'It seems I was right.'

When Queen Nerith had accused Thalos of betraying her, he had used his Eyes of Truth and Judgement to see if the prince was lying as he attempted to defend himself.

And he found out that he was not. He was saying the truth.

He obviously could not tell the queen or the others that the prince was innocent since he did not want to expose the ability of his eyes. Besides, he did not care enough to say such a thing.

However, what he did know was that the prince was saying the truth, and it was somebody else that had betrayed the queen and the Silver Elves.

But he had no idea who... until he began noticing some strange things about Syrelle.

When Queen Nerith and Orynthia blocked the attacks of the two Immortals, Syrelle had been slow to respond to the shockwave that resulted as a result of the attack, causing Corey, Pamela, and the rest to fly away.

Such a thing could be ignored easily, but Corey knew that an Immortal should definitely react faster than how she reacted, and he definitely found it suspicious that her reaction speed was so slow.

The second was the fact that she was too calm and slow after leaving the shell world.

They all knew that time was of the essence, and that every second saved was a chance to save their allies in the shell world, but she had not been in a hurry at all.

There were others, but these two things were what made Corey suspicious of her, and although he had not shown it since they were not concrete evidence that she was a traitor, he was still suspicious of her.

And he was right.

Syrelle had been the traitor all along, not Thalos. And he had no idea why.

'Well, the reason doesn't matter right now. What matters is that we are up against two Immortals.'

Corey's expression became extremely grave, and his Stars of Consciousness flared furiously as numerous plans and simulations appeared in his head.

"So, do you have a plan?" Pamela's voice drifted into his ears, and he glanced at her.

"Not yet."

Pamela's lips twitched. "Not yet? In case you don't know, we're up against an army of walking corpses, two powerful Tier 6s, and two Immortals."

Corey nodded his head. "I'm not blind. I can see that."

Pamela scoffed, and Corey shifted his gaze from Syrelle to the boy leader of the Freedom Fighters, Anton.

"Is your plan to destroy the world tree?" He asked.

"Destroy the world tree?" Anton tilted his head slightly, and then he glanced at the world tree.

Multiple bolts of lightning fell from the world tree, killing some of the waking corpses. But those that did not completely die would recover by absorbing the pieces and remains of the destroyed walking dead.

Corey saw this, and he frowned. 'The attacks of the world tree is meant to be stronger than this, and it's meant to be able to kill every single walking dead. But for some reason, it's weaker than normal. And the walking dead are getting resistant to its lightning attacks.' Corey thought with a frown.

"My previous goal was to destroy the world tree since I can't make use of it after getting this book, but my allies don't want me to do that. They want me to weaken it." Anton gestured at the mage and the priest from the Temple of Darkness. "That's why they're here. To make sure I don't destroy the world tree."

Corey furrowed his brows, and then he looked at Syrelle who held a spear in her right hand with an indifferent expression.

"What about you? Why did you betray your family and people? You made your mother and sister to believe your brother betrayed them. What if your mother killed him because of your actions."

Syrelle scoffed. "Mother would not have been able to kill him. Although she can be ruthless and decisive at times, she doesn't have the heart to kill her children. She loves us very much."

Corey raised a brow. "So you believed that your brother would not die despite what you did? Is that why you were okay making him to look like the traitor?"

"Who knows." Syrelle shrugged, and then without saying anything else, she threw her spear at Corey and Pamela.

Their eyes widened in shock, and although they tried to dodge it, the speed was just too fast.

Bang!

The ground cracked as the spear pierced through it. However, the figures of Corey and Pamela dissipated into a fog.

"Just like I suspected. An illusion." She clicked her tongue in annoyance, and then she looked in the direction of one of the healthy roots of the world tree.

Her eyes reflected the images of Corey and Pamela standing with extremely solemn expressions as they stared back at her.

Corey wiped away the blood that fell from his eyes, and Syrelle spoke.

"That illusion ability of yours is the most annoying ability you have. I don't think I've ever read or heard of an ocular ability that's so powerful to the point that it can fool the senses of an Immortal."

She stretched out her left hand, and her spear flew into her hand.

"It would have fooled me had I not experienced it once before."

She raised her spear, and then she threw it at Corey, causing his pupils and that of Pamela's to constrict.

However...

Clang!

A sword appeared out of nowhere, and it blocked the spear, causing it to be deflected to the side.

"Thalos." Syrelle scowled.
