"Patriarch Raizen, a Trade Agreements can mean many things, but in this it is the means in which merchant companies such as ourselves conduct businesses with planets unified under one rule.
"This agreement will allow us to interact with your planet as a company and pay a suitable tax to your person for allowing us to trade. Depending on the agreement, we will be setting up shops across the different Cities you have permitted us to."
Interesting.
"Why go through the Planetary Lord to do this?"
I had some guesses as to why, but more concrete information never hurt.
"It is far more within our means to transport goods to a Planet through the System with the acceptance of the Planetary Lord than it is to travel there ourselves Patriarch Raizen. Doing otherwise could not only incur problems with the local powers, but also quickly bankrupt our company."
Ah that more or less aligns with what I was thinking. Alright, this is pretty much the entire reason I wanted to do this whole Planetary Lord thing anyway so let's get it going.
"Sounds good enough for me. What do you specialize in?"
"We the Ironcrest Union specializes in weapons and armor of all sorts. No one is excluded from this. From the weakest of mortals to Immortals far and wide. Of course, we can procure other wares as well, but weapons and armor are our trade."
Weapons and armor huh…I mean it isn't something I necessarily need, but this isn't just for me. Though I don't necessarily want to put any budding blacksmiths out of business so soon either.
Hm…am I overthinking this? They are a company that sells weapon and armor, in a world where weapons and armor are a must for almost everyone. Even if our local blacksmiths can't compete with them yet, they will still have a place I think.
Whatever, I can always kick them off the planet if I don't like how things are looking.
"I see and what are your terms?"
The man in front of me didn't miss a beat and began rattling off their terms. I suppose this type of conversation was normal for them.
"Thank you for your interest Patriarch Raizen. Our terms are as follows. The Ironcrest Consortium would pay you a 25% tax on all good sold on the entire Planet. This will be paid for in either gold coins or spirit stones, depending on income earned.
"In addition, a onetime trade fee of 1000 High Grade Rank 1 Spirit Stones will also be included.
"The Ironcrest Consortium will also pay a 5% tax on all shipments sent to the Planet. Finally the Ironcrest Consortium will ensure that 40% of its workforce on the Planet will be hired from natives if they so wished.
"I hope you find this agreeable Patriarch Raizen, but we are fully open to meeting your demands if you have any."
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Honestly, that was really good…I've never been an economy guy, but this sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I could probably demand a bit more on the numbers side, but I don't see a need to.
"Alright, this is agreeable, just a few things. Don't incite wars on my Planet, I doubt anyone could afford it, but don't sell anything that could cause the destruction of the Planet, slaves are banned here, and if for some reason this Planet gets invaded, don't sell weapons to my enemies.
"Is this agreeable for you."
I didn't think any of my requests were unreasonable, and he seemed to agree.
"The Ironcrest Consortium officially accepts this agreement. We would like to maintain this contract for a period of 50 years, with an annual renewal fee of 300 High Grade Rank 1 Spirit Stones."
"Deal."
After saying that, the man left for barely a few seconds before coming back with a contract and signing it before me. I will receive my own copy to sign when people from the Ironcrest Consortium showed up.
Which would not be for another 3 days as they needed time to prepare their goods and a proper workforce.
All initial payments will be delivered at that point as well.
I let him know that someone else will be handling all communications after this and we ended the call.
I'd say that went well, with the exception of that metal guy. I hope the rest of the calls I had weren't going to be like that.
Hm. Maybe I should just introduce myself as an Infernal immediately to avoid any problems.
Turns out that doing so was a good and a bad thing, two of the calls I answered after that respectfully bade me fearful after learning who I was. In fact it was almost like they were begging to disconnect the call.
It was good because we got it out of the way early, but it was bad because well, I just lost out on a few opportunities.
Moving on, my current call was an interesting one.
This time it wasn't a merchant company.
On the screen in front of me sat, a brown skinned woman. She had bright orange hair, two eyes that were orange all the way through. Like no pupil or anything just completely orange. And then to bring it all together she had two sets of arms for a total of four.
Honestly she could probably pass as a human wearing some very advanced cosplay.
But she wasn't.
"Greetings, my name is Sendoira and I am the Planetary Lord of Zaiyan. You are the first Planetary Lord I've spoken to and all I seek is conversation."
I'm the first one? And all she wants to do is talk? Interesting…
"I don't mind talking. My name is Raizen. Patriarch of my Clan of Infernals, and Planetary Lord of Earth. I don't mind talking, but can you tell me how I came to be the first? I'm sure there are other Planetary Lords out there."
"Infernals…I am not familiar with that phrase. What is that? And while I am sure that there are other Planetary Lords, you are the first one that I have seen since I exited the Tutorial. Have you met others?"
Ah.
Yes…it wasn't just Earth going through a Tutorial. It was our Universe. Well now I'm even more interested in this conversation.
"Infernals are a race. My race to be exact. Though I suppose you wouldn't know them since they likely wouldn't exist on your Planet.
"And no. I do not know any other Planetary Lords. You are my first, since I only just recently became one myself after completing my own Tutorial not that long ago."
She seemed to sit up a bit at my response.
"So you are the same. Now I am even more inclined to have these conversations. Before we can continue, can we come to an agreement on this? I find it highly important."
Well this type of conversation seemed pretty beneficial to me as well, so I don't see why not. Though I am not sure what type of agreement she wants.
"I'm more than willing to have these conversations more than once, though I can't make any promises regarding schedule."
"That is acceptable, all I ask is to not allow our conversation to wane."
"Fine by me."
"That is well. Now I recall my first day becoming the Planetary Lord of Zaiyan and all the tasks that plagued me as a result. I will not add to your list of tasks any further. Please seek me when time allows. Farewell."
After saying that she simply hung up. What an interesting conversation.
Well on to the next.
