Day in the Life…Earth's Steward
In a meeting room, located in Earth Union City, all the City Lords of Earth were gathered and seated around a giant round table. All of them were permitted one guard or attendant who stood behind the each of them quietly as this was not their meeting to speak at.
There was only one individual who was permitted to have two guards or attendants and that was the host of the meeting.
The current Steward of Earth.
"Since this is the first council meeting since what we have dubbed the Lord's Departure, the first official order of business is to welcome the newest official City Lord to this council. Everyone please welcome Richard, the new City Lord of Black Cove City, to the City Lord Council.
"You have been attending this meeting in place of Lord Raizen for a while now, and it is good to have you in an official capacity. Once again, welcome."
"Thank you for the warm welcome, and I look forward to representing Black Cove City and the will of its former Lord well."
All eyes in the room were directed towards Richard, as the man stood for a moment and gave a short introduction. Of course, everyone in the room already knew who he was so it was only a formality, but the last line of his intro really drew their attention.
To represent the will of its former Lord…that line alone caused immediate political ties to grow among some, and enmity to fester among others.
Though, no one made any sort of comment regarding it. This wouldn't be the place for that. Now seeing as Richard had finished his spiel, the Steward continued on.
"Alright, moving on I few things on the agenda for us to go over, including the displaced people from the ant scourge, the remaining ants, and the thousands of individuals that completely vanished from the planet, and finally the words the previous steward has left for us.
"Before we tackle those items, I would like to first open the floor for any opening remarks from any of the City Lords that are unrelated to the listen agenda and need to be included. The floor is yours."
The room was silent for a moment, until the City Lord of The North Pole spoke up.
"I believe some change is in order. Before…the departure of the Lord as you so gracefully dubbed it, the resources of my City were my own to manage. I would like that to be retuned to me and the Planetary force to leave my City.
"There is no reason for us to continue to bow to a man that isn't here."
The thoughts of all the City Lords in the room at that point was that someone voiced the dark thought that was bubbling on surfacing in a few of their minds. If Raizen was no longer here, why the hell did they need to keep on following his wishes?
Raizen had conquered the planet, but it wasn't as if he spent a bunch of time capturing the hearts of all those who dwelled within. For the most part, there wasn't a hint of loyalty in towards Raizen in the hearts of these City Lords.

Now all eyes were on the Steward.
The words she spoke now could possibly cause a great shift in the direction Earth develops in going forward.
Tensions were raised, and the silence was louder than any speech for a time until the Steward cut it apart with a sharp retort and an edge to her tone.
"The answer to your ask is no. It will be not returned to you, nor will the Planetary force leave your City and that goes for every City apart of this Council."
"You don't have the right to order me around. You were just my subordinate not too long ago. Don't forget where you came from."
The Steward narrowed her eyes towards her former City Lord and asked a very measured question.
"Is that a threat?"
At her question, the two guards which had silently flanked her even now, moved their hands towards their swords and looked in the direction of the City Lord. No words were said, but everyone in the room knew if the City Lord pressed the issue even more, then blood would be shed.
The Planetary Force were not a group of people known for having the most patience.
A few moments of tense silence passed but the City Lord had not done anything else except grit his teeth and glare at the steward. Clear anger coloring his features.
"I will take that as a no. Though while your request will be denied in full, I believe this is a great segway into one of the agenda points. Words left to us by Lord Ozal, the previous Steward of Earth.
"He said, and this is word for word, 'This Planet is the property of Patriarch Raizen. Do not do anything that goes against his explicit wishes. The Patriarch is many things, but forgiving isn't one of them. He is still the official Planetary Lord of Earth and thus can be contacted in the case of an emergency. Do not be the cause of that emergency.'
"That was all he left behind for us, and I plan to ensure that those words remain true. I will not seek to contact Lord Raizen for anything less than an emergency, and I will do my best to ensure that whatever emergency arises isn't because of the people in this room.
"I am not the ruler of this planet and for the most part, your Cities will still move to all your own wills. As long as the big things aren't ignored there will be no problems. Things all of you should be aware of already.
"Now are there any questions regarding that piece of information, or anything else you all would like to be added to agenda?"
If any of the City Lords had things to ask, then not a single one of them felt like this was the environment for it anymore. For those among them, that had qualms about the current status quo, they felt like they were now sitting in a nest while a dangers viper was lurking nearby.
If they spoke out of turn and caused attention to be drawn to them, then they would be swallowed whole without a hint of remorse. Needless to say, no other City Lord had words for the Steward of Earth after she had bared her fangs.
"I see, then next on the agenda is how we will handle the ant scourge from now on. Scouts has long reported that while many of them were destroyed and thousands upon thousands of carcasses were found in the underground, not all the ants were eliminated.
"It is estimated they were brought to the brink of extinction through some mysterious effort that none were privy to by Lord Raizen. Thus, a lot more humans than the rest of us were expecting came running out of the tunnels seeking homes all over the planet.
"Getting all of these people settled is a high priority to avoid confusion and as much resources as possible needs to be diverted to this effort. We can worry about getting people matched up with members of their family later on, for now they need to be settled.
"In that same vein, I recommend shoring up defenses and preparing for retaliation from the ants. Humans were their sustenance, and I doubt they would give up on their food source so quickly.
"Are there any questions on this?"
"Ah yes I have a few comments here."
The City Lord of New Asia City spoke up.
"Two things. If the ants are still alive, how are we supposed to get rid of the threat if even Lord Raizen and his people couldn't do so? Secondly, there are two people in my City claiming to be relatives of Lord Raizen, and that they've been trapped in the underground for years now."
The attention of all the City Lords including even Richard, was grabbed at that point. Relatives of the Planetary Lord…if that is proven to be true…wouldn't they be the most powerful family on the Planet?
