Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 528: Three Shots

The Chris yacht.

At seven in the morning, everyone packed up their gear, getting ready to head to the cave to transport the treasure.

Elsa Marin stayed on the yacht to rest because of her injured leg.

Luke, Lilith, and the glasses girl carried a small electric tracked vehicle towards the cave.

Luke used a machete to clear the way, creating a path wide enough for the tracked vehicle, occasionally having to cut down vines and clear away dead branches.

The task was strenuous, and seeing Luke getting somewhat tired, Lilith proactively stepped in to lead the way.

Glasses girl was responsible for driving the small tracked vehicle from behind.

The three were quite excited along the way. Glasses girl had already thought about how to use the benefits from the treasure hunt and chatted incessantly.

This time they traveled light, and the three moved quickly, reaching the cave before ten in the morning.

Luke instructed Lilith and glasses girl to wait outside while he went into the cave alone first.

"Roar..." Shortly after entering the cave, a huge figure leapt from the pool, opening its large mouth wide, revealing sharp teeth, and lunged at Luke.

This crocodile was even crazier than the one they encountered yesterday.

"Bang bang bang bang!" Luke fired four consecutive shots, piercing the crocodile's head and back, completely killing it.

Luke moved closer to inspect, noting that this crocodile's tail had been injured and showed signs of infection, likely the same one he wounded yesterday.

Because this crocodile was injured, it became more ferocious and irritable, able to fend off anyone attempting to enter the cave.

The fact that it hadn't been killed seemed to suggest no one had entered the cave to take the treasure.

Ever since that night two thugs boarded the yacht, Luke had been on high alert, though it might just be his paranoia.

Luke used the walkie-talkie to call Lilith and glasses girl, instructing them to drive the tracked vehicle into the cave.

The three entered the trove-packed cave hall, finding it the same as when they left yesterday, with no signs that anyone else had come.

The wooden boxes containing the treasure were too old to transport, so the three moved all the treasure into woven bags.

They loaded a bag of gold ornaments and two bags of gold bricks onto the tracked vehicle, with a box of ceramics carried separately on their backs.

The tracked vehicle was small and couldn't carry much, plus the rainforest ground was soft and muddy, making it easy to get stuck if overloaded.

The remaining box of gold bricks and six boxes of silver bricks would have to wait for another trip to be transported.

Then, the three headed back along the original path.

Glasses girl was responsible for driving the small tracked vehicle, which was noticeably heavier compared to their arrival, and coupled with the rugged terrain, its speed also decreased.

By the time they returned to the yacht, it was already two in the afternoon.

Lilith and glasses girl had collapsed from exhaustion.

The two of them, having lived in the city, weren't used to the tropical rainforest. After two straight days of trekking, their bodies were utterly fatigued.

Luke checked the time and pondered that, at their pace, they'd be hard-pressed to make it back to the yacht before dark. He even wondered if they could make it back at all.

After some thought, Luke decided to go to the cave to transport the treasure by himself.

Previously, he had already cleared a path wide enough for the tracked vehicle, so he could move much faster alone.

Even though it wasn't ideal for one person to transport the treasure alone, Lilith and glasses girl wanted to help but were too exhausted, and their presence would only be a burden.

Elsa Marin's leg injury hadn't healed yet.

The three stood on the yacht deck, watching Luke disappear into the dense rainforest before they returned to their own tasks.

Lilith and glasses girl were responsible for securing the treasure.

Elsa Marin returned to her bedroom.

She closed the door and knocked on the wardrobe door, "Knock knock."

The wardrobe door creaked open, and a man in his thirties with a neck tattoo stepped out.

Like Elsa Marin, the man was a mix of white and black heritage, though his skin was darker, showing more of his black lineage.

"Hey, babe, have they left?"

"Luke went alone. Are your men ready?"

"Yes, we just contacted them via walkie-talkie. They're prepared for the welcoming ceremony."

Elsa Marin warned, "Luke is a famous detective in Los Angeles. It's best to be cautious with your men."

"Heh heh,"

The tattooed man grinned, "Don't worry, this isn't Los Angeles, nor is it his familiar urban battlefield. This is the tropical rainforest.

Chasing thieves in the city and battling in the rainforest are completely different. Here, he's just a rookie, bound to suffer."

Elsa Marin took a deep breath, "Hope everything goes smoothly."

The tattooed man put his arm around Elsa Marin's shoulder, "It will. We're about to become millionaires. Those gold bricks will all be ours.

With this money, we'll live the rest of our lives worry-free, never needing to wake up early for work, enjoying life every day.

You can even fulfill your dream of traveling the world."

Elsa Marin glanced towards the door, "What Lilith values the most are not the gold bricks but the ceramics. I think they might be very valuable too."

"Don't worry, I'll find a good buyer for them.

Once they succeed, we can act," the tattooed man said, pulling out a walkie-talkie, "Hello, this is Ross. The target has landed on the island, and he's alone. Proceed as planned."

...

North shore of the island.

In a dense patch of weeds inside the tropical rainforest, the weeds shook slightly, and then a bald man lying on the ground lifted his head, picked up the walkie-talkie, and said, "Roger that, we're set for an ambush on his path to the cave.
