Who would study psychology unless they had some issues?!

Chapter 545: Mourning the Loss

The current Nan Zhihao is the type of visitor that consultants love the most.

He has a vague yet correct understanding of his predicament, has become aware of a beneficial choice driven by instinct, and has already taken half a step toward this choice.

However, due to a lack of systematic organization of knowledge about "people" and "life," the visitor cannot clearly articulate his thoughts and feels some hesitation about his choices.

What the consultant needs to do is help the visitor deconstruct his thoughts bit by bit, strengthen the visitor's cognition; meanwhile, provide the visitor with the power to solidify his decision.

As for whether the visitor's choice is perfect—this question has no absolute answer.

There might be better choices, or there might not be; this naturally has different answers for different people, different situations.

But at least for the current visitor, this choice is right.

Thus, it is necessary for the consultant and the visitor to work together toward this choice.

Nan Zhubin looked at the visitor.

As usual, first based on the content the visitor just narrated, provide certain support through [repetition] and [reflection].

The visitor needs this now.

...

At this moment, after completing his narrative and presenting his thoughts, the visitor nervously clasped his fingers, rubbing them slightly with unease.

Nan Zhubin smiled, "It seems you've indeed had a very thorough self-reflection recently, understood your past, and have made a rational plan for your future."

Sigh——

The visitor breathed a sigh of relief.

Since the beginning of the narrative, he finally showed a normal smile for the first time.

"I don't know if my current choice is correct." The visitor habitually explained, "My main concern now, as I just told you, is that even after making a choice, I still hesitate somewhat…"

Nan Zhubin gently raised his hand, giving [support] once more: "Facing the real situation, there are many kinds of 'correct,' but 'absolutely correct' is 'absolutely nonexistent.'

"At least your current choice is the most suitable for you."

The fingers the visitor was clasping slightly loosened.

"As for your hesitation, in a sense, this does not mean you have any so-called 'problems.'" Nan Zhubin smiled, "On the contrary, it means you are extraordinarily strong in some aspects."

Nan Zhubin looked into the visitor's eyes and said, "Your [super-ego] is too strong."

The visitor blinked, "Super-Ego?"

This term seems to frequently appear in some marketing accounts or short videos, making the visitor feel somewhat familiar.

But when voiced by Nan Zhubin at this moment, the visitor felt he didn't understand.

He sat upright, revealing an inquisitive look.

Nan Zhubin nodded, "Yes, [Super-Ego]."

...

In the foundational theory of the [Psychoanalysis] school, besides the interpretations of [consciousness] and [subconscious], the discussion of [Id], [Self], and [Super-Ego] in the "Personality Structure Theory" is one of the most representative basic theories of the school.

Freud proposed the "Personality Structure Model" in the process of studying personality structure, dividing the individual's psyche into three core levels—

——namely [Id], [Self], [Super-Ego].

[Id], is the most primitive and innate part of personality, possessed from birth.

[Id] follows the so-called "pleasure principle," driving all behaviors to pursue immediate satisfaction of instinctual desires.

Such as sex, hunger, aggression, etc. An infant will cry and fuss for food when hungry, not caring whether its behavior inconveniences the surrounding environment and people, which is a typical [Id].

[Self], is the second layer of personality formed gradually as individuals grow and live in the real environment, serving as the manager within personality.

[Self] follows the "reality principle," functioning to mediate between the Id's impulses and the external world's constraints.

For example, when a worker sees a luxury while shopping, the [Id] desires it; but on checking the wallet realizing one can't afford it, the [Self] exerts control, suppressing the worker's impulsive consumption desire.

[Super-Ego], is the highest layer in personality, formed gradually as individuals learn social norms and values.

[Super-Ego] adheres to the "perfection principle," demanding that individual behavior conforms to moral standards.

...

Nan Zhubin looked at the visitor and said, "Your strong [Super-Ego] includes overly internalized 'filial piety.'

Due to past traumatic experiences and multiple communication failures with parents now, when facing scenarios where you need to interact with your parents again, you instinctively experience rejection, anger, and other negative emotions, these are your [Id]."

"Yet in this situation, you still drive yourself to fulfill the 'son's' role, suppressing your emotions to soothe your parents; even when facing pressure yourself, you choose to divert energy to ease your parents' anxiety, all of which result from suppressing the [Id] and choosing to let the [Super-Ego] exert its influence."

Nan Zhubin looked at the visitor and said, "So this brings you a lot of negative impact."

[Id], [Self], and [Super-Ego] comprise the three parts of personality. Their balance is very important. Any one being too strong or too weak will produce adverse consequences.
