With the emergence of over 30 snakes made mostly of fire the situation looked grim, Rhyana was tense and was about to fly down to go and help the duo down in the valley. Yet before she could a voice spoke out in her mind, it was excited and eager for the battle that awaited. "Don't join in, me and Luna have this!"
The short message assuaged some of Rhyanas worries, but she couldn't help be slightly apprehensive about how the two girls would manage to defeat such overwhelming numbers.
Sure logically speaking she understood that both of them were indeed quite powerful. She had seen that first hand during the battle against the guardian beast, yet that was against a singular powerful foe whilst surrounded by multiple powerful beasts. Now the situation was almost reversed, and Rhyana did not want to potentially loose the wild dragon to such a meaningless fight.
Still she stood her ground on the cliff edge and observed the battle.
It had been a surprise to see the ease that both of them dealt with the magma snakes, they appeared to be roughly the same level and yet the two girls acted more like they were just experimenting on them. Their was no obvious malice or killing intent, more a sense of curiosity that baffled the blue dragon.
Rhyana had only know combat to be a brutal fight for survival, she was sure that must have been the same for Violet. Yet the wild dragon before her seemed to find enjoyment in the simple act of growing stronger, whatever form that may find.
She wondered if this is what she needed to learn if she ever wanted to be considered 'Wild'. She didn't know and once more looked at the quest that had updated when finally she had met with Violet.
[Quest:
Having met the last Wild Dragon you have enlisted its help with a grand quest. Your fate is beginning to be entwined by one embraced by the wilds.
Deepen your connection with your wild nature to be welcomed back into your lost home.]
The quest was strange, she didn't know what it meant by connecting to her wild side. How did one even do that? Did she want to do that? She was unsure.
Yet as she sat atop the clif and watched as Violet and her companion tore their way through the army of flaming snakes with grins in their faces. Well she finally though that she might have finally found the first clue to her enigmatic quest.
**
Luna ducked under the lunging snake as she swept a ice club into the path of two more that dove for her. The lesser beasts crashed into each other in a burst of flame, steam and gore.
Each individual flame snake was truly not much of a challenge, it was their numbers and co-ordinating that was frustrating for both girls. Yet at the same time it was truly exciting, being able to truly push herself to test out her new skills had already proved its worth.
Her movements around the messy battlefield have already become much more elusive since the battle started. Her foes will regularly atttack a spot adjacent to her, only to be confused when what met them was not a juicy beastkin but a blade of ice here to reap its life.
Luna was beginning to develop her own way of fighting that was melding with her skills on a deeper level than before.
Whilst she previously relied mainly on speed above all else. Now she was working to include her magic into the very essence of how she fought. Misdirection, area of effect spells and endless versatility from being able to change her weapon at will was a challenging yet rewarding way to fight. She could move through this chaotic battle like a dancer.
Never where her foe thought she was, yet always where she needed to be do take out her foes.
Her club shifted the next moment into a spear as she thrust forward to skewer the snake she ducked under. Then with a flourish she sent its corpse flying into the side of another that was about to leap onto Violet's back.
The two worked together effortlessly, be it due to their trust or bond. They always knew where each other was at all times, they knew their companions intentions before they acted. And they knew how each of them liked to fight and what each of their strengths and weaknesses were.
Together they covered for each other, a shield of void would protect Luna's back, a slick of ice would cause a snake to miss its leap. Together the two companions tore through the army of lesser snakes as the two magma beasts slithered around from the back, ever looking for a chance to jump in to deal a lethal blow.
The magical snakes movements were sluggish compared to its counterpart thanks to missing a significant chunk of its tail. Yet it made up for its lack of mobility with extra focus on ofense.
Bolt and spears of magma rapidly flew towards the two companions, only to be avoided or blocked. Be that by shields of void or tricky footwork.
Violet ensured that a near constant barrage of bolts and spears of her own battered the two large snakes and kept them from getting too close, or from charging up a big attack that would prise them some serious risk.
Eventually though the two magma snakes were forced to act more brazenly as the numbers of their lesser brethren rapidly dwindled. The one that Luna fought previously was the first to jump in, it surged forwards intending to collide with Violet. Yet was left confused when the dragon disappeared at the last moment, only to reappear in the same spot a second later once it had passed her by. Now out of place the giant snake was battered by multiple spears of void and the icy blade of Luna.
Molten blood spurted out as chunks of its flesh was blasted apart and more deep gouges in its body were carved by its vicious foes.
Seeing its mate be injured so greviously the magical beast unleashed a salvo of attacks along with a stream of magma erupting from its distended maw. Luna dove behind the now injured snake as she unleashed her strikes in rapid succession, each strike cutting deeper and deeper into it. Violet chose to unleash a barrage of her own magics to counter the snakes own.
Loud explosions echoed out around them as she caught valiantly to hold back the seemingly endless barrage of spells.
Yet the snakes final gambit was doomed to fail, soon enough the snake Luna was fighting succumbed to its grievous wounds. Collapsing to the ground with a thud as rivers of blood pooled out of its innumerable cuts.
Violet too chose to end her fight in a decisive manner, she blinked to the side and overcharged her void beam. A concentrated beam of void shot forward to shred through the lesser snakes that surrounded the magma beast. Only for that beam to shift its position and slice right through the body of the larger beast.
After a moment of inaction the two halves of the magma snake soon feel apart.
From there is was a simple job of slaying the remaining snakes that carried on the fight, they didn't hunt down those that fled, allowing them to retreat and live to fight another day. When all was said and done the two companions stood in a field of boiling blood with giant grins on their faces.
